Is this the worst tasting win in your memory??

I don't think the OP is dumping on the Pats; he's just saying it's mystifying to have such a collection of great talent on the field and in the staff, and to have it produce these results.

I desperately wanted the Patriots to win and I'm happy they did, but it's hard to feel great about the win because it came against the Jets, of the 18th ranked Defense in and the 29th! ranked Offense in the NFL.

With AZ and Seattle, there was always the reasoning that this is an elite defense we're up against, but THIS game should have been blowout for the Pats. And instead the Jets made mistake after mistake and still very nearly beat us.

Like I say, I love the Patriots but I have to agree with the OP--I don't remember ever feeling this deflated about a game that put us in sole possession of first place in the division.

Nope, glad to see them win a close one for once. A lot of people seriously underrated the jets. Have to give Sanchez credit he played well despite bad receivers even against this defense.

40 years pats fan? And you say this is the worst win you witness..?

You have got to be kidding me? You REALLY have got to be kidding me (you and a few others)? Wow! Talk about spoiled and entitled.
Last week during crunch time the Patriot defense was as soft as a pillow. The offense couldn't get a first down if they bought one on Ebay. This week against our arch division rival, when the defense had to have two crunch time stops? They basically got them. When the offense absolutely had to have two scores in crunch time? They basically got them. When Gost had to hit the big kicks in crunch time? He got them! When adversity hit in crunch time? They very much stepped up!
Sure, there were times both units struggled. I hate to see that. But we just won arguably the most critical! game of the season (so far) with gutsy crunch time performances from both sides of the ball (save the McCourty fumble). THAT! is a win that shouldn't make anyone whine!

Nope, having the O and D come up big in overtime against the Jets feels pretty good.

Yah, its too bad were not perfect and killing teams by week 7. As pats fans we should be fully aware that the way a team plays at the beginning of the season doesn't mean much for what will happen during the rest of the season.

Our young D got reps and eventually came up big and it looks like our O is experimenting instead of finding their niche and becoming predictable.

They don't have to be killing teams. I'd settle for a game ending drive with five minutes left when up 7. Hell I'd settle with them not going three and out in that situation. But it same old same old in those critical situations.

I know winning solves everything but you can't sweep all of the same issues under the rug that keep reoccurring. They were lucky they were playing the Jets. Period.

Holy ***** - what a pile a unfettered horse***** this thread is.

You are appealing to Mr kraft about the 'product'?

You need a reality check - we are the most successful franchise of the last decade, you miserable individual.

Go and sleep it off.

Your handle says it all. You (like many on this site) must start living in the present.
You can start by sending a thank you card to Jet receiver Stephen Hill.
Btw what's this "we" reference fanboy??

It is in mine.

I have lived through a lot in the past 40 years of rooting for the Pats; but this was just horrible. The end of the game I was just sitting there going - this is NOT a Patriots team I recognize.

The #1 offense MY AZZ!!!!! - 17 freakin pts in regulation and 3 of those in the last 90 secs against a PREVENT[-YOURSELF-FROM-WINNING] defense 3 man rush.

Hernandez couldn't hold a block on running plays to save his butt and couldnt catch anything that wasnt laid like a lollipop to him.

Mr acrobatic (Lloyd) dropped more balls that brady put ON TARGET to him than I can count; ok maybe was only 3 or 4; but that is only cause they had to pull him and put Branch in cause TB couldn't trust him anymore.

The D hardly laid a glove on Sanchize the entire game until the 4Q. and then he started hitting trifectas on us. They showed the graphic at one point in the 4th season avg 167 or so pass yd per game - today 270+ and that was before the end of the 4Q and OT.

Even the Run D was getting gashed for at least 2-4 yds on every play for a while.

But that is nothing compared to the pass D. Great switch moving McC to safety - now the S is no longer the SEIVE but instead we have arrington playing CB. God help us. How many did he give up today. To think I used to like him. And the # of PIs. Hell in the OT they have shown that they have gotten such a bad rap that all the O wr has to do is run right at the DB. The ref will give you a 5 yd 1st down because 'those Pats are always holding'. At one point in Zone coverage they showed the overhead and they said it "EVERYBODY IS OPEN". God help us. Either they cover and give up a PI or they let them run wild and get 20+ yards.

Thank god that Ghost at least didn't freak up a makeable kick like vs Az.

This game very easily could have gone the other way; AND IT NEVER SHOULD HAVE BEEN CLOSE.

Maybe I am just lit up here at 2 am cause of deciding to get drunk mid-way thorugh the 4Q. But this team is really starting to PEE ME OFF.

MR KRAFT - ONE DISSATISFIED CUSTOMER WITH THE PRODUCT ON THE FIELD.

Sorry but I just dont get it. This team has more talent and better coaching than this. Apologies to all for the rant - I am grateful for the win; but up til now I really thought we were a top tier team. After that debacle (AT HOME NO LESS); I just dont see this team making it come January. There is a long season left; and maybe they can MORPH between now and then; but right now this is PUTRID and again I DONT KNOW WHY they have all the pieces (I thought).

Some people can never be satisfied.

We won a tight game today where the call against us is the D and O never stand up when it counts and brady is no longer clutch.

Twice Brady drove us down the field 1st to tie the game then to win it.

The Defense overcame McCourty's fumble to hold the Jets to 3 and not let them waste to much time.

They then iced the game with a sack and pressure from 2 patriots not named Wilfork and Jones.

The patriots didn't play perfect but got the win hopefully we will just keep on learning. Once again BTW we had between 4 and 5 Rookies out on the field at any given time with Jones, Hightower, Dennard and Wilson all playing significant minutes.

I'll take the W and the AFCE lead against a division opponent thank you very much.

P.S i can just imagine your reaction if we lost

I'm sorry lets live in the present then. 4-3 division lead and a top 5 offense. We beat one of our division rivals giving us a good cushion.

On and we were in the Superbowl last year... but i guess that's all in the pats right?

P.S i love it when people call others "fan boys" on a pats fan site like it's some great insult. I'd rather er on the side of my team rather than write an article how this is the worst tasting win in memory... after an over time win against the Jets.

No

This the most asinine thread in my recent memory, though

My question to you is ya we beat with some luck a 500 team at home when we were heavily favored..Are we a Superbowl contending team..IMO as of today I say no !!!

What game were you watching? Pats O had chance to put game away late again and went three and out. Only when jets went soft prevent at end could they move the ball.

Loved Ninko strip sack to end it. But let's not pretend the D made huge stops in regulation. Sanchez didn't see a wide open guy and hill had a brutal drop forcing them to kick fg for tie otherwise they were marching in to score. and after fumble jets when conservative playing for fg instead of gong after pats secondary.

I'd rather win a close game than lose one but let's be realistic. The same problems are there. Hopefully the can win the division and anything is possible but they will need to make tons of improvements.

I can definitely see the OP's point.

It took some crazy stuff to fall into place to get that win, and in the meantime the so-called lowly Jets (they have no QB right? or WR's? or much of an offensive line? and their defense is without Revis and the run stuffing NT so they clearly suck) outgained the Pats and pretty much outplayed them.

Once again the defense let us down in the 4th quarter, as we yet again blew another 23-13 lead in a 4 minute span in crunchtime.

The secondary looks pathetic, actually pathetic. So many are high on Dennard, but he doesn't look like anything great to me. Penalty after penalty, and he blew several key assignments that were very important.

The offense failed to adjust too well, as once again the opposition held them to 7 points until the back to back crucial FG's by Gostkowski. 2 red zone TD's in at least 5 attempts isn't going to get the job done against top tier competition.

It just seems as though we become very limited in many ways against the more physical teams of the league, and I really looked forward to the added physicality that we were supposed to have this season.

That all said, it's still a win; but they were extremely lucky to have escaped back to back losses again this season for the second time in 7 weeks, and I don't see anyone being too scared at the moment.

I don't think we can rely on weird safeties happening once every 6 yrs, a 100 yard KO return for a TD, 2 crucial FG's from 43+ in late game situations, and a fumble recovery to end the game too often, but a win is a win nonetheless.

You hit the nail on the head. Nothing else to add.

Funny how we won, and yet I feel like we lost. It absolutely embarrassing.

actually it was quite sweet.

We've been losing these games lately.

Not today.

Thankfully.

yes, that is the one saving grace in my mind (that we won a close one).

Personally I think he may have been watching a different channel, but I can respect his point that we shouldn't be "whining" about luckily coming away with a win in any circumstance.

The poster should remember however, that there is a difference from those who are taking it too far, and those who are simply pointing out the same old problems again and again.

All we've been hearing about the NYJ this year is how they have no QB, no WR, no defense (run or pass), and a pathetic ranking in every situation; yet somehow we needed a bunch of lucky breaks to walk away AT HOME with a victory.

There is still time to make some progression obviously, but this team is not playing with the physicality that most of us expected. I am starting to wonder if they really are just a finesse offense with an extremely weak defense like so many say.

Your handle says it all. You (like many on this site) must start living in the present.

I find it very hard to believe you are an actual Patriot fan. You seem to have nothing but disdain for the team.

And yet the only reason the Jets were IN the game was because of 2 43+ and 1 54 yard field goal and a fumble recovery.

That and if they won, it would be the highlight of their year ;)

This was the best tasting win of the season.

Just to start:

1. It was over the Jets

2. Tome Brady clutch drives to tie then win game

3. Strip sack to win the game

SOrry people but no win tastes bitter, let alone a divisional game that was a must win.

This team isn't a finished product, it's probably (hopefully) not going to look much like it does now in December/January(hopefully). Just win and stay as healthy as possible.

What did all those sexy dominant wins in 2007 and 2010 get us? Enjoy the ride and hope for the best.

Have to give Sanchez credit he played well despite bad receivers even against this defense.

I don't give Sanchez jack. Our coverage sucks balls. My late grandma could cover/tackle better than that circus defense. Every third string QB looks like Montana against our secondary.

If we continue playing like that we can kiss the playoffs goodbye.
