Don Banks Mock Draft #1

Nice. I'm looking for Willis and one of the CB, he has Revis and Ross available at #24, but Willis and Bowe would be fine too - I'm expecting Bowe to be gone but there's a good number of WR this year.

Bowe has had a great week at Senior Bowl practice and seems to have the kind of smarts and character the Pats like. Doesn't seem like the prima donna WR type at all.

That being said, if darrell Revis is on the board we take him without hesitation. i also don't see Landry lasting til pick #20.

That's not the impression I get from Bowe at all. On Tuesday after he dropped a pass where he was wide open and running towards the endzone, he turned around and was laughing about it. Also NFL Draft Countdown said he was joking around in today's practice and not taking it very seriously.

If Landry was still around at 20 where he has the Giants taking him I wouldn't mind trading up from 28 and taking Landry then using 24 on Revis. He has some players like McCauley who's stock has dropped going too high.

McShay from scouts inc has the Pats going LB twice in the first round with Willis and Posluszny. The odds of them going LB twice is nil IMO. It's an ESPN insider so I cannot link everybody.

Kiper has Revis at 24 and Anthony Gonzalez, WR, Ohio St. @ 28. I like Revis I didn't think Gonzalez was a first rounder.

I think its a lot more likely that the Pats go with Willis and Posluszny than Gonzalez or a safety that early. I just don't see it happening.

I will say this for Kiper. He takes alot of flak from would-be draft gurus who see him as King of the Mountain and what to displace him. But he was the only person I'm aware of who predicted Maroney to the Pats at #21. It was in the ESPN pre-draft issue from last year. He's from Baltimore and I believe he is friendly with the Ravens staff and Ozzie N. As we know, the Baltimore FO and the Pats are as close as possible in a competitive environment. They talk to eachother, trade with one another. Ozzie credits the structure of his scouting system and player guidelines to those BB established in Cleveland. I believe if anyone can sniff out the Pats tendencies, and it is a long shot, it may be Kiper. As for McShay, I believe he is from the Boston area, and worked for BB at one time, possibly in Cleveland in the scouting department, and credits BB for his scouting education (although that may be a resume filler). I don;t take this Don Banks mock seriosuly at all. He doesn't follow college football, so the only way he can put together an accurate mock is on insider info. But we are so early in the process there is no insider info, so his mock is pure nonsense.

Kiper had been going back and forth between Carpenter, Williams and Maroney last year. I wouldn't doubt he had inside info at the end.

Yeah, he does so many mocks that he's usually right for every team at some point. I love Mel, though, no-one really knows what's gonna happen - he's as good as the next guy. And his voice puts me in my Draft Happy Place.

draft looks good, but i'm very cynnical of SI.com nowadays...

Willis made himself a lot of money this week. Hard to imagine him falling to #24.

Anthony Gonzalez is short (5-10 or 11) but I think he will run a 4.4 forty. Still only good for the 2nd round.

UNless Revis runs to of the 40's of his life, I'm confident he slips to us at #24.

I'd be thrilled if Revis slips to #24, if that happens and we grab him, I think our whole draft becomes much easier. CB looks like a more difficult position to get a good player this year than LB....and I think we need that young CB regardless of how the samuel situation plays out.

I can't see us taking Bowe if Willis is still on the board at #24.

As for other picks:

Marcus McCauley was clearly too high for the Bengals.

A lot of defensive ends in the Top 20. I don't think that they're necessarily that good to warrant that many that high.

LaRon Landry will not fall past Carolina, and Karriker is NOT a good pick for them regardless. Wrong style of defensive end.

I would think jumping from 28 to 20 would take quite a heavy value of picks to make it happen.

http://www.nfldraftblitz.com/pick_value_chart.htm

20 = 850
28 = 660

190 points

our 3rd rounder is 132 and 4th is 48 so that's 180 maybe throw a 7th in.

The giants in retrospect wouldn't do it any way they need a good safety or a RB to replace Tiki so if Landry and/or Lynch are there at 20 they are taking one of them.

The Patsa have 2 or 3 openings at LB. Why not go twice at LB?

There is at most One opening in the secondary and thats for depth, not a a starter. And a spot for a 5th WR. Noo other major openings anywhere.

I'm all for 2 LBs as well, but at most one opening in the secondary? The only safety from the current roster who you can count on seeing past 2007 is James Sanders. And a stud CB would see plenty of action with this team, with or without Asante. Multiple players are needed at both LB and DB, IMO.

It's way too early to start taking these mocks seriously (unless of course it's authored by a PatsFans poster :)). About his picks...can't see us drafting a 220lb WR when we have a slew of TEs to throw to, not to mention Mills @ 230. If we draft a WR at all, it may be a fast stretch-the-field type or a quicker one like Troy or Branch who has the ability to get open underneath. And besides, the only offensive players I like in round one are Meachum and Leonard (@ 28). My preference though is to go defense with both picks providing the value is there.

I like Revis for sure. Hall, Revis, and Hughes are reportedly slower than some would like. I'll take the best one of the 3 for the Pats one slot lower than Law was drafted, and hope we get the same kind of difference-maker we had in Ty. FWIW, Law wasn't a 4.4 guy either.

Chances are slim to none we draft those two in the first. But if we did, the questions about their size and/or ability to play in our D will have been answered. Therefore they'd be great picks.

I actually like both of them as Pats prospects. Doubt Gonzalez makes it to our second-rounder...and #28 is probably too early.
