After last night's great comeback by the Broncos, here's this line from this espn story sidebar Denver Broncos vs. San Diego Chargers - Recap - October 15, 2012 - ESPN):

"Peyton Manning inserted himself in the MVP race and reshaped the AFC West by leading the Broncos' monster comeback"

Ok, so the media is now once again on the Peyton Manning for MVP bandwagon. But curiously, there's no mention whatsoever of Tom Brady. Let's compare:

Record:
Brady: 3-3
Manning: 3-3
*Brady's Patriots whipped Manning's Broncos 31-21 in week 5

Stats:
Brady: 65.8%, 1845 yds, 10 td, 3 int, 97.2 rating
Manning: 67.8%, 1808 yds, 14 td, 4 int, 105.0 rating
*Brady also leads the #1 offense in the league in both points scored and yards gained

Look, we all knew this was coming - that if Manning had a good year that he'd be hailed as an MVP candidate. Right now the Broncos are 3-3, which is a .500 team. Last year, without him, and with Tim Tebow, the Broncos were 8-8, which is a .500 team.

I'm not saying that Brady should be the league's MVP. I am saying that it never ceases to amaze me that Manning is *always* considered in the top group for MVP while, in this case, Brady isn't even mentioned.

i wouldnt get worked up about it.

espn was having a love affair with the texans as well, while i was questioning how good they really were when there first 5 games were against miami, jacksonville, denver, tenessee, NYJ. they barely beat NYJ and denver but everyone was praising them as the best team in the NFL...then they got torn apart by green bay, who has looked fairly bad thus far...and immediately afterwards seemed to back track a bit.

I think the texans are good, just not as good as they were made out to be...afc south is the new afc east.

plus, its manning...hell ALWAYS be in MVP discussions...even though that comeback was almost entirely defensive.

too early for the MVP discussion to be honest.

But lets call it straight here.

If Sd don't turn over the ball as much. Denver don't get within an asses roar of winning that game.

So a huge change in fortune is surely down to the Denver D.

So you want him to be considered for Comeback Player of the Year and not MVP?
I give Manning all the credit in the world: he walks into a new place, rallies the guys around him and has them in the thick of things despite a pretty tough schedule. His numbers match up with TB and it is better for football to have Manning back despite career threatening injury.

He deserves to be in the consideration for it, just like Brady does.

And in all honesty if we are going to be fair so does Matt Ryan, leading a 6-0 team as well as Robert Griffin III.

As of right now it's not hard to make a case RG3 has been the MVP of his team. And yes, I know the fact that in some people's mind with him being a rookie he is automatically disqualified from the race, but I could care less.

Kid is playing lights out and has way fewer weapons to work with than Brady.

With a 3-3 team, I could really care less who the MVP is

I’ll take a Brady with a 4th ring wrapped on his finger and Manning as MVP anyday.

With Tebow as the starter, they were 8-5. This year they have upgraded the roster, added Peyton, and slid to 0.500. Granted though, they have had a tough schedule.

Peyton Manning was unlucky not to win the MVP last season. He's a perennial favorite.

i agree with this, eli is mvp so far in terms of qbs

a case can really be made for jj watt if the texans can rebound from the packers loss

this could be the year a guy like watt wins the mvp, in all seriousness

JJ Watt has been the best player in the NFL to date. He should be a clear MVP candidate with Eli Manning trailing not far behind.

It's what the media does, has done and will always do to the Mannings. They are the NFL's royal family.
They're "aw shucks", homey (and homely, but that doesn't matter) and apple pie. Peyton is a great regular season QB. But, if anyone else had his post-season record and performance history, he'd be correctly regarded as a guy who puts up great performances until it really counts.

That's kind of a stretch. The defense was definitely huge, scoring a TD and getting great field position for the offense, but Manning was money last night, and I think very few who watched the game would characterize it as being almost entirely defensive.

Of course ESPN is going to hype up Manning on a Monday night game which they were televising. Next week they'll be saying the Bears are the best team in the league.

it could happen, like verlander last year.

anyone saw the manning's post game interview last night? he even mentioned wes welker :)

So many sour grapes in this thread that my teeth hurt. As Belichick has often said, "statistics are for losers."

Let Peyton have his night. Let HSPN barf up whatever October headlines they want.

Let's start worrying about the Pats' protecting leads when they have the ball and three minutes on the clock, as they have failed to do twice already this season, and stop worrying about people who get (quite rightly) enthusiastic about one of the greatest comebacks in the SB era, engineered by one of its greatest QB's.

Frankly, if you're a true football fan and not a Patriots' Bandwagoner who thinks the NFL commenced operations in 2001, last night was pretty damn special. Enjoy it and be thankful it didn't happen to us, which, with our Secondary, I wouldn't be too sure couldn't happen.

Jets on Sunday, folks. That's all we should be worrying about.

That has been said of a lot of QB's since 2005.

If you hadn't noticed, a lot of us have been eagerly cheering for that eventuality in recent years.
