Why we lost a game we shouldve Won

How do you think this dink and dunk offense affects our defense in practice??? McCourty was great against the deep ball when he had Randy Moss to practice against in training camp and preseason. Post-Moss, we have all but abadoned the deep ball. Could it be that our secondary isnt getting enough practice reps against the deep ball? I think so. Both McCourty and Chung have degressed in recent years.

Where is the blitz? When Matt Patrcia saw that we couldnt cover deep, he shouldve started blitzing. It wouldve been the only way to stop those deep passes, which seemed almost automatic 50 yard gains. Furthermore, why drop Mayo in coverage 5 yards when Seattle barely threw any undernath passes? Matt Patricias inability to adapt and make adjustments as the game went on was horrible.

Continuing to throw 56 times when you have the lead late in the game was laughable. I thought Bill Obrien was back for a minute there. All that predictable throwing led to INTs when we couldve had a garaunteed 3 points on the board and put the game out of reach. It also left enough time on the clock for seattle to catch up. Bad coaching once again.



And finally..... The worst of them all. Leaving points on the board before half time! BB took forever to call time out, the team wasted time running up to the LOS, and then finally called TO. We mustve lost a good 10 seconds off the clock, which led to us not getting a FG.



Yes BB is the best ever, but today was an all around horrible coaching job.

Brady had a so-so to bad day today...he blew it at the end of the first half with the intentional grounding....just a mind lock play and he knows it.

I've been waiting all season so far for blitz schemes of ANY kind to be used in these "must pass" situations where the other team HAS TO THROW...so far,whether it's Patricia or Belichick, they REFUSE to be anything but vanilla. When the opponent begins holding every down and no calls are being made shouldn't someone say "hey, rushing four ain't gonna get it done!"...you tell me, WTF is the difference if Ebner comes on a safety blitz and rushes the QB's throw as opposed to letting a WR just run a go right by him for 46 yards??

I don't know the answer...I'd rather go down fighting than go down scratching my head though...

Yet the playcalling still had him throwing a career high 56 times in rainy weather, despite having a decent lead. At what point is enough, enough?

I hated todays playcalling on both sides of the ball. Im losing faith in both coordinators

Lloyd was beating these scrubs quite often. Chung has been working against AH and Gronk for two seasons now - i think he might be ****tier now. Having nobody to practice against is quite a stretch considering our offense.

Our O-line got owned in the running game. On 3rd and short we still throw because our feature back averages 2 ypc and the O-line can't get any push at all.

I don't have the tape or anything but there were a few times in that game were we got rushers into the pocket and Russel just evaded them. He broke out of the pocket, bought himself some time, and made accurate throws. Not sure how you game plan for that with a guy who only has a few games against NFL defenses on tape.

Early in the game Spikes was out in coverage and Wilson just threw a great pass out to what I think was his TE jumping over Spikes outstretched arm. The scheme challenged a rookie QB to throw into tight coverage, the rookie just made a good pass. I don't know if that was characteristic of the whole game, I'm really new to the actual X's and O's of football, but I thought it showed that Wilson isn't a total pushover.

As for Ebner, that was not something the coaches ever wanted to happen. Gregory was already out and Chung and Moore went down. Ebner was the last man up and I don't think you send a blitzer in a situation that clearly calls for bend but don't break scheme. It really sucks that him and Tavon were out there at the same time, but you can't have a perfect plan for every situation. To me there was no obvious better choice in how they played that.

If we can get to the playoffs we'll always have plenty of tape on an opposing QB, and our rookies will have 2 to 3 times the experience of playing in the NFL as they do now. It might not be enough, but it is enough reason to believe we will get better.

The offensive playcalling was the worse today. Even if the run game is ineffective, you got to pound at it. But the worst part of the game is after they decided to waste seattle's timeouts instead of trying to score. Two ineffective runs followed by an incompletion helped seattle so much. It would have been a perfect time to run a screen etc. It felt like we purposely put the game in our defenses hands when we should have been fighting to get into field goal position.

Also, i have thought the same thing about the lack of deep passes in practice. We are allergic to throwing deep bombs. I don't get why we have to wait till we are desparate to even attempt one to lloyd. But guess what, the last guy in branch is tossed one.

One last thing. These are the games where i think brady should scramble for 4 yards here and there to keep us out of 3rd and long. I truly feel that brady has more clear field in front of him more than any qb in the history of the game. Running qbs can only dream of getting the defensive looks he gets sometimes. I feel that brady would rareley run even if all 11 players dropped into coverage 90% of the time.

Ebner sucks in other ways…but that 46 yard bomb was 100% on Mr. Tavon Wilson.

you really do have to question the coaching of the secondary. I don't know what is going on there.

Bad decisions by BB and the entire coaching staff yesterday (and all season really)was the primary reason for the loss. Yeah the secondary sucked but Ebner and Wilson probably shouldn't have been in there in that situation. Seriously, what is a guy like ebner doing in there anyways? Hard hitter, good ST'er...but is LOST in secondary play. BB's decision making and secondary personnel selecting are giant question marks again this year.

How in the world our DBs can't play the ball is beyond me. all wilson did was throw up a hail mary and hope that his WR will do the rest.

As someone mentioned in the other post, Matt Patricia and Josh Boyer is not cutting it and it is a disgrace if they still have a job.

BB hire RC when he is fired from KC or what the heck, hire some DC from outside and bring in fresh prespective. Stop the promoting from with in experiment RIGHT NOW

Look how Houston turned out when they hired Wade Phillips. Damn, this team could have reached new heights if we had a proper Defense in the past 5 years

OP might have a point, over the past 2 years, the secondary hasent been to training camp or practiced against an offense which throws deep.

Tom Brady rarely throws beyond 20 yards now unless the guy he is throwing to is wide open, some quarterbacks in this league can throw it 50 yards accurately.

it comes to a point where the cornerback doesn't have any experience past a certain yard line, they dont know where to look back for the ball, they don't practice against deep route coverage, i think it is actually a valid point.

That is true and that is a major problem. Brady over center with a RB in the backfield means run every time. It's ridiculous. Need to work in some pass plays with Brady over center and some run plays with Brady in shotgun.

AND THEY NEED TO COMMIT TO THE RUN AND KEEP POUNDING AWAY WITH IT.

The only rationale explanation for not using blitz packages is for fear of getting beat badly downfield when employed. Well, seeing as how the Pats are getting badly beat downfield anyhow, they might as well blitz. At least they might get to the QB more often so that he tosses the ball sooner and it goes INC or is INT.

I think they went light on the blitzing due to Wilson great ability to scramble out of the pocket. They didn't want to commit too many players crashing into the pocket, while Wilson does one of his bootleg moves and gets out there. No way Wilfork, Love, or even Spikes can match his speed.

I love when some Pats fans try to rationalize a terrible game from the Patriots by citing poor games from other teams....Do you honestly think that Schaub is not going to come to Foxboro and light up this secondary for about 350 and 3 TDs and an additional 100 yards on PIs?
