Kyle Arrington not getting it done per PFF

Yes, I know I'm showing some blatant Sterling Moore love, but if not safety, I'd like to see Moore in the slot.

It'd suit his smaller size, and his cover abilities can't be any worse than arrington's right now. And when he does screw up, at least he has a chance to knock out the ball! :D

This whole thing is odd - Arrington was our best corner last year. I wonder what changed.

As I'm sure you recall, last year's defense sucked the fat one, and your first sentence there is a big reason why.

Actually, I don't think he was any better last year than he is this year. He's a JAG that can be coached into playing serviceable cornerback. Last year he just happened to catch some lucky bounces and be in a position to just put his hands out and record an interception.

I'll also add that I think Arrington is better than Moore, but you're not looking at anything amazing either way. And that does for the guy starting on the other side of the field as well.

Another PFF fail.

How many targets are we talking about here? Corners are also on the field on plays they aren't targeted. With such a small sample size, this stat doesn't mean that much in a vacuum. All it does is prove what we've known - Arrington has been beat a few times. What happened on the rest of the plays?

Hopefully the Dennard era begins as quickly as possible.

As the D is constituted right now, Dennard would be taking snaps from Moore. I don't see Dennard replacing Arrington in the base D anytime soon, so he's fighting for spots on the outside when Arrington moves inside in the sub.

Dennard and Dowling need to push Moore for those reps. Moore has been beat a few times down the sideline the last couple games, and was replaced by Dennard mid-game last week. I'm not sure what is going on with Dowling.

I like Moore for being scrappy and making key plays in key moments, but I think we're looking at a poor man's Randall Gay for the most part. Which is not the absolute worst thing in the world.

Quit quoting PFF. They don't distinguish between man or zone. They practically pick the closest guy to the guy who catches it.

It's a pathetic stat. Add this to the list of most pointless threads ever started.

"QB rating when throwing at NE's Kyle Arrington edges closer to perfect - 158.0 after 5 weeks (81.8% complete, 3 TDs)"

Twitter / PFF: QB rating when throwing at ...

That's just horrible.....

One of the comments posted after the Arrington factoid......"he's more of a receiver chaperone."
The playbook O coordinators use when passing on the Pats. 1) Throw lob pass to right corner of endzone and receive a PI call. 2)Throw to sidelines because S coverage will NEVER be in time. 3) Lining up tall athletic WRs on left side should create matchup advantages vs midget CBs 4) TEs feast on Pats LBs 5) RBs released from backfield rarely receive attention.

Why BB believes Moore was a better fit to cover D Thomas downfield instead of Dowling remains the mystery of mysteries. Dowling was drafted for the D Thomas' of the NFL. From the QBs vantage point....I'm much more likely to target the midget DB instead of of the DB that has more physical presence. Cromartie comes to mind. His stride length alone gets him back into the play.

If I had to guess, knowing the number of games and the completion percent, I'm guessing 22 targets with 18 completions. The completion percentage would be 81.8% with an average target of 4.4 per game.
I guess the targets could be higher but I don't see in the math how it could be lower and still have a completion rate of exactly 81.8%.

Arrington is a nickel/dime guy being forced into the starter role due to the incompetence/injuries of other players both past and present. I don't call him out often, because I consider him a player who's woefully overmatched pretty much every game he plays.

Saying that Arrington isn't getting it done is like saying a #4 center's not getting it done because he's getting owned by all stars: It may be true, but it's to be expected.

9/11
18/22
27/33
etc.

all equal 81.8% completion rate.

I would guess 9/11. I don't feel like he's been getting thrown at all that much. Maybe he's just completely ourt of the picture when they throw at him so it's not as noticeable. ;)

Sterling Moore looks more like a safety and playing him there isn't going to produce any worse results than either Chung or Gregory, in fact it will probably improve the secondary especially with both his & Wilson's ability to end up with the ball out of nowhere.

Yes, I understand that 9/11 is 81.8% as well but the number of games has to be considered which makes 11 targets for a starter unlikely. I doubt he was only targeted 2.2 times per game as a starter. If anything it would more likely be 27/33 than 9/11.

Unfortunately, throwing at him seems to be very noticeable.
