Missing practice due to concussion? Very serious issue here.

If this becomes a recurring issue, it is something worth noting as draft time approaches.

I'd take a serious look at him come draft time.

Wilfork is getting up there in age and Ron Brace has done nothing to make me think he should still occupy a spot on the roster.

He's been my top "realistic" draft prospect - along with Dion Jordan and more recently Tank Carradine - for months. He's rawer than Star Lotulelei and Johnathan Hankins but just as athletic and stronger than either. He can play 3-4 NT, 4-3 DT, 3-4 DE and probably 4-3 LDE in the Red Bryant mold. He won't rush the passer, but he'll do everything else, he has experience in Nick Saban's system, and he should get better. His lack of finish, concussion history, and the depth at DT will hopefully keep him within range.

is williams really that versatile? if he is i want him, hes underrated as a passrusher

As passrushing DT i think you should look toward Sharrif Floyd as some of us already are, guestion is him vs the run.

Right now i think Sharrif Floyd is the DT i want most, specially if he can add 15-20 lbs more. Without a doubt more versatile then the others. Floyd is one of the most athletic defensive tackles to come out this draft, and most explosive.
As sayed, only question is the running game... But i'm thinking, him on "kyle love" spot with Vince ( NT ) next to him to take double teams, bet that would make holes and Floyd do have the penetration to make plays. Biggest problem ( if you can say that, is lack of DE's on Gators team, so he's used there now, but he should be inside ofcause ) so we can't see him as a run stopper, but at the same time that could keep hes draft spot down. He's young, Big Vince can take a year or 2 more, Floyd can use the time to grain bulk - Afterall worst case is a 3 down DT, since hes great at rushing the QB, BUT then we still missing a NT thing.

Floyd could be used as LDE on rushing downs (Floyd-Wilfork-Love-Jones) and then shift inside on passing downs (Ninkovich-Wilfork-Floyd-Jones). This of course assumes we don't pick up someone like Carradine for the LDE spot.

Wasn't thinking about haveing him out there all the time, he can do it yes, but was thinking him in the middle instead of love. Then Love could take some of the play time from Vince aswell - Still want a LDE.. Could be Ziggy :rocker:

I think Love's too good to take off the field too much. As for Ziggy, I actually see him getting good reps on the inside - he plays NT at times for BYU

I know Ziggy is doing that aswell - Plan was ending up with a new front in 2 years. Jones - Ziggy - Floyd and the bomb Jadeveon Clowney as RDE...

Might be a dream and not posibel - atleast not like this, do think getting Clowney is, if BB really want.

Floyd and Ziggy i think we could get for 2 and 3 pick this year.. Can trade 1 if we want or use it on a OL or mayby a safety ? Depend on the board.. 4 Could be a OT Swing thing, since i'm thinking BB resign with Volmer regardless on health issue, he's to good to not resign.

floyd is not a pass rusher in my personal opinion. and i do not think he is explosive or quick enough to play DE

The guy we are describing but not naming is D. Taylor of SC. 6'5" and 270LBS. Able to play the run and pass the rusher and drop into coverage.

This is the guy we need opposite Jones.

someone was talking about floyd

taylor is not the answer my friend.(in my opinion)

people are complaining about dion jordan's hand usage, this guy isnt much better. and i disagree with the coverage thing. hes tight in the hips. i think he would be abused in the pro level. Hes a hard worker, but i dont think he has the skill set

I'm pretty sure that "the answer" at LDE opposite Jones is out there among one of the following:

- Tank Carradine, FSU (6'5" 270#, seems very Jonesesque)
- Margus Hunt, SMU (6'8", 290#, reported 4.7 speed)
- William Gholston, Michigan St. (6'7" 280#, started off as a LB; Mackenzie Pantoja calls him "Julius Peppers minus 3 sacks")
- Devin Taylor, South Carolina (6'7" 260-270#, drops into coverage at times)
- Ezekial Ansah, BYU (6'6" 260#, currently plays OLB for the Cougars, reported 39" vertical)
- David Bass, Central Missouri St. (6'5" 280#, Mackenzie Pantoja binkie with reported terrific pass coverage abilities)

I wouldn't be at all surprised if one or more of these guys ends up being an absolutely fabulous pro. But as of right now, I have absolutely no idea which one(s). None is a clear cut 1st round pick as of right now, and all have question marks regarding some combination of consistency, development, character, stiffness, level of competition, etc. But Jared Allen, Trent Cole and Justin Tuck all had issues that kept them out of the first 2 rounds of the draft, too.

I not seeing the reason for the Devin Taylor love, he has very little ability to effectively engage the tackle from the footage I've seen, his success against the QB is mostly from beating his man around the edge.

Perhaps my opinion of him will change when I watch more footage of him but at this point I see him as a very mediocre pro and not a good counterpart to Jones.

i will continue to insist that dion jordan is the guy ( if he can get to 260-265), can be a lethal pass rsuher on 1st and 2nd town and shut down a tight end on 3rd

Assuming he can get to and maintain 260-265 there's no guarantee he'll have the strength to take on a tackle, which he seems to lack right now. Just because JPP and Jones are in that weight range doesn't necessarily mean being there gives you that degree of strength/technique.

If he does get to that weight he'd likely be at a disadvantage to the TEs of similar weight he'd be covering. The TE knows where he's going but the defender doesnt, which means he'll likely have to play catch-up, having that weight wouldnt help him do that.

I see Jordan as more of an Aldon Smith type prospect. Comes in as a rookie, only plays in the nickel, and still has a huge impact. The difference is Jordan is longer, more athletic, and 100 times better in coverage, but he's also leaner and not as filled out. He has only 3 sacks and 5 TFL so far but most don't understand he plays CB most of the time.

I really wouldn't worry about his weight. He looks more filled out than last year, and I'd fully expect that to continue. He could easily be at 255 by the combine without actually trying to add weight.

thank you merril. this has the point ive been trying to make. especially about his stats. i dont think being at 255-265 will put him at a disadvantage in coverage
