By what metric? Lol, he has been lucky not to have been worked like a cheap home all season long...
.

Please refrain from using similes that make absolutely no sense. Worked like a cheap home? Was the cliche store fresh out of rented mules and redheaded stepchildren?

WHEN will McCourty LEARN to turn his head? He get's beat like a drum. If he turns to the ball in the EZ there's no PI call.....

What a dummy...:bricks:

Sorry, for every GOOD play he makes a boneheaded one that costs the Pats.

Should be Pats 17-0 at halftime.........

For those of you who defend Devin, could you specify how you rank him among DBs in the league? Do you think he is top 30?

I've defended McCourty, but Dennard has looked better in the Denver game for sure. He's looking for the ball every time. He's broken up two passes. He's sticking with his receiver. He has been impressive.

After this game I gotta say I like Dennard more, he turns his head(he should teach mccourty that move) and he swats the ball. I think Dennard can become something here.

McCourty's has a poor game today. It happens. I like the look of Dennard and Dowling. We're going to need them to step up.

Dennard proves that the defender has a better chance to defend the pass when he sees it coming.

Why can't he turn his head around?

All the bad plays from him in this game are when he doesn't turn his head around.

Done done with him really. He plays too scared. Maybe the coaches destroyed him.

mcCOURTy was guilty tonight.

He is simply not good. Yes he is pretty good defending the run but complete crap in coverage. Unreal.

I actually think he can be an above average safety. I cannot comprehend why he does not turn his head towards the ball when playing CB. Perhaps he can replace Chung next year when we do not resign him?

At very least he got it turned at some points, but it's mind boggling why other times me makes no attempt.

I will not be surprised if these CBs one day comes out to tell us why they don't turn to look for the ball. It is probably something along the lines of being yanked out of the game if you take a chance and not get the ball.
I can almost here BB saying, if you are going to take a chance and play the ball, you better get it or else you are out.
They are so scared giving up big plays, yet PIs are also big plays so clearly something is not working. I know I am running with my premiss of a warning from the coaches, but I know McCourty was looking for the ball his first season.
I have seen him so many times this season just straight out tackling the receiver when the ball is in the air. It is so bizarre.

I think half the blame MUST be the CB coach, Josh Boyer. He got hired in 2011. So far, he is not doing his job....

Josh Boyer (born January 21, 1977 in Heath, Ohio)[1] is an American football coach in the National Football League, currently serving as cornerbacks coach for the New England Patriots. After graduating from Muskingum College,[1] where he played football as a wide receiver and defensive back, he began his coaching career in 2000 as a graduate assistant at King's College, Pennsylvania, and then served in the same capacity at the University of Dayton in 2001 and Kent State University in 2002 and 2003. In 2004, Boyer served as the defensive backs coach at Bryant University. He then served as the defensive coordinator at the South Dakota School of Mines and Technology in 2005 before joining the Patriots in 2006 as a defensive coaching assistant. He was promoted to defensive backs coach following the 2008 season. In 2012, his title was changed to cornerbacks coach.

Is this from the Onion or something? South Dakoto School of Mines? Really?

I swear McCourty is training for games watching old highlights of Ellis Hobbs who had a penchant for not turning his back and getting PI calls at least once a game it seemed.

It's true--his bio was posted in a recent thread. I personally see many good defensive strategies he might have learned there...
