Does anyone know the last time a Quarterback was franchised and who it was?

I don't remember anything and really didn't pay attention to franchising and all that crap until i started looking around this site.

I think Hasselbeck got the franchise a couple years ago, could be wrong though.

Manning was exclusive tagged in 2004 when they couldn't get a deal done and he played through his entire rookie deal. His cap number at the end of that deal must have been vicious (on a salary backloaded rookie deal) because his tag price was $18M indicating it was the product of the 120% calculation rather than the going tag rate. But they got a deal done about a week after FA commenced.

And I think Brees played under the tag his last season in SD (2005), but as recall the QB tag that year was only around $8M. They were trying to decide whether to stick with him and trade Rivers or trade the untested #3 draft pick they got in the Eli Manning swap. Lots of folks pointed to Brees going down last season as reason why you don't want to play under a tag. They thought his career might be over and SD owed him nothing.

I thought the transitional tag was basically the right to match any offer from another team?

Is the $ amount if they get no offers and cannot come to terms with the team it's a one year deal for that amount?

How close were these to the numbers that you posted for the TE and CB Positions? Pretty close if I remember correctly.

That is correct.

Sticky please....

Does anyone know if they've done anything to prevent the poison pills this year in transition-tagged player's contracts that we saw last year? (E.g. Burleson having his salary guaranteed if he played like 5 games in the state of Minnesota.) Otherwise the transition tag is rendered meaningless.

While I would love to see Samuel re-signed, I just see no way possible that we can let Graham go if his cap hit will only be 4 mill to franchise him, he means too much to this offense.

I don't think anything has been done, so get ready for a lot of poison pill deals - wouldn't be shocked if Denver did one for Daniel Graham should they try to bring him in as the blocking TE to pair with Sheffler.
