Looks like Bob Ryan doesn't realize how the NFL schedule is made.

"What's interesting is even after the colts left the division the schedule makers still put them on the schedule every year and now he is Denver and guess what they are (Brady/Manning) playing here again this year"

guy should be banned from talking football

wow, what an idiot.

For those who do not know: Every single opponent and the location of every single game is set by a well-known formula based upon regular rotations between opposing divisions and your standing within your own division the previous year.

Every year people suggest the NFL gives teams a break or punishes a team. It's pure rubbish. The day after this season ends you will know, by the formula, every single opponent and where the game will be played, home vs. away. The NFL and the networks only control the dates the games are played. They also look to move a game a year to London. That's it.

People who think that the NFL has arranged for the Pats and Colts to play every year: the truth is that for something like 11 years in a row they have finished in the same rank-order slot in their division (usually 1st, but both were 2nd in 2008) all but twice. The two times were in 2002 and then last year. But every third year the whole AFC East plays the whole AFC South anyway (2003, 2006, 2009, 2012, 2015...)

Next year there will be no Colts-Pats game unless they finish in the same rank-order slot in their division. Then the idiots will say that the NFL dropped the games since its no longer a Brady-Manning matchup. The tinfoil wearers always have something to grab ahold of.

And there will be a Denver-NE game next year only if they finish in the same rank-order slot in their division, since next year is our turn to play all of the AFC North.

Yes, link please because that sounds completely brainless coming from a "journalist."

Not to mention that the league's structure promotes parity to the point that a "strength of schedule" analysis based on the prior year's W-L record is largely irrelevant by the time the games happen. But yeah, I though Bob Ryan retired already. Did I miss something?

1 ~ Bob Ryan's expertise is BasketBall, not FootBall, so you are certainly correct in questioning his expertise. That's a pretty basic thing ~ the Scheduling Format ~ that any "professional" Writer should make't'is Business to know.

2 ~ And, God knows: Only one of three ~ or less ~ of'is Articles are up to the old Bob Ryan level, these days. Tragically, his Vision has been violated, poisoned, and compromised by the Post Camelot Era of The Pravda's Epic Sports Era, when Bob Ryan in BasketBall, Nick Cafardo in FootBall, Peter Gammons in BaseBall, and a few others ~ Leigh MontVille and Ray FitzGerald come to mind ~ forged an astonishing Era of Excellence in New EngLand SportsWriting.

Alas, King Mordred now rules Camelot ~ The Pravda's Sports Section ~ and it has become...The WasteLands.

But, every once in a while, Ryan casts off the shackles...and provides a fleeting glimpse back to what once was.

Did anyone else on the show bother to correct him?

I forgot to add that he ended it with "there is no rhyme or reason on how it has happened"

No way. He was drunk.

I couldn't believe it when I heard it.

This is the same guy who tons of people freaked out because he was critical of the Patriots' chances before the season started. He's a pretty good basketball guy, but, like most Boston writers who aren't Pats-specific, doesn't know **** about football.

Even still, though, I'm surprised that he doesn't even understand the simplest aspects of NFL scheduling. I knew that he didn't know much, but I figured even he knew the most basic of basics.

If he doesn't know **** about football he shouldn't be commenting on it. Wow.

People here make mistakes every bit as stupid. It happens.
