Sterling Moore

Sterling Moore only played one snap in the season opening win against Tennessee, but has been on the field for 57% overall in the last three games.

What occured to me is that I can't recall one play (good or bad) that he was involved in. I don't recall any good passes defended, but nor do I recall him getting beaten for a long gain. I don't have All 22 access so I'm not sure what to make of this.

Is he not making impact plays because he's not playing well, or is he not making impact plays because he's playing so well that qb's aren't throwing at him.

As such, I figured it would be a good idea to open it up for your take on how Sterling Moore has played thus far.

He has gotten burnt several times over the last few weeks.

Except in cases of obvious greatness (Reed, Revis, Patrick Peterson) and obvious ineptitude (Duane Starks), it is almost impossible to evaluate secondary play without the coaches film and knowledge of what their responsbilities are. That being said, there have been some balls completed against him but he hasn't been embarrassed out there.

My take is that without question, Moore's play has been indisputably sterling.

Moore is best served playing bump and run against smaller, faster receivers. Put a bigger bodied, more physical receiver in front of him, and he's getting toasted. The fact that Dowling can't beat him out (assuming he's healthy) is certainly concerning.

He can't be as bad as the rest of this secondary.

Just like he's gotten burned a few times, so has Arrignton, McCourty and Chung hasn't been his ball-hawking self either. I like Moore, and I still give him credit for getting us to the Superbowl.

like with most teams you dont see or hear alot about the #3 or #4 CB he's just a roll player, its just that last year secondary was so bad that he looked like a star

I think he should be given a shot and start over Arrington in the base, whom has been turrible as an outside CB but solid in the slot.

Sure he can. McCourty and Arrington are our starters. They both have more talent and are better choices for more defensive reps.

Personally, I think that the Moore as safety experiment failed. Moore should be our #4 safety and our #4 corner (our dime). Unfortunately, Dowling is not up to the job of taking one of the top three corner jobs. Obviously, Dennard is also not up to the task.

So, for me, I would be OK with Moore as our seventh defensive back, able to fill in wherever needed. However, I'd rather have Dowling beat out Moore for that job. Beyond the first seven, the roster spots are for special teams and/or development (Cole, Ebner and Dennard).

The BOTTOM LINE is that Moore is likely to be tested this week. I'm certainly glad that we brought back Carpenter to help defend in the middle of the field.
