I hope to God that nonsense is over. Obviously this offense is pure TNT when one of the games premiere WR's, a fellow by the name of Welker, is one of is centerpieces. Hopefully the teacher's pet, Edelperson, will stay injured so we can continue to win and dominate football games. And the Krafts need to pay Welker top WR money. He's earned it and plays like it.
JE will never be WW. Is this even open to debate?

Yeah, cause Edelman is gonna help us so much by staying injured. Lame.

Well, when he's the #1 slot WR, we play like crap, so you tell me?

I'm not opposed to Edelman playing as an outside receiver ahead of Welker.

Hoping a player from your favorite team stays injured?

:bricks:

they arent going to pay top dollar to welker at his age. theyd pay him a solid amount for sure (probably more than theyre paying lloyd right now)...but he wants more.

has he earned it? sure...but his past isnt the issue.

thats why they looked at guys like amendola, and gonzales. why they picked up salas. youth.

amendola is going to be looked at again next year, and is gonna be cheaper.

I think you just opened it for debate, which I'm sure many people will thank you for it soon :D

JE will never be WW, and WW will never be JE. What is JE? Whatever he is or isn't, I'm sure BB has a better idea then you or me. The fact that TB has targeted JE as much as he did in the first few games leads me to believe that TB trusts JE which is a good sign. As we all know when TB doesn't trust a WR they don't stick around long, just ask TP.

Anyways like I've said before, Edelman CAN do things Welker can't. He's more explosive then Welker. Thats obvious to anyone, what isn't so obvious is what Edelman can't do, because he hasn't had a solid oppurtunity to display himself. I'm guessing there are things Edelman will never do as good as Welker, but I wouldn't mind seeing more of Edelman this year to find out. The one thing we know for sure is that if Edelman wants a chance to be "the next Welker" he needs to stay on the field.

Too bad he wasn't the #1 slot receiver at all this year. Do yourself a favor and go back to pretending to know music..

Well, obviously I like JE and wish him the best and all that stuff, but the performance of our offense when we try to start him over Welker is not good. I think BB sometimes gets obsessed in trying to fit his binkies into positions they are not best suited for. Connolly playing FB? Troy and JE playing CB? I know it's BB's hobby to tinker with well rounded football players but sometimes it's wise to not try fitting a square peg into a round hole. The difference in the explosiveness of this offense when using Welker instead of JE is like night and day. Anyone who says otherwise needs to have their armchair quarterback privileges revoked. :D

What so many people forget is that this is Edelman's 4th year as a receiver. Period. The other 10+ years of playing football, he was an option QB, though he did spend time on Special teams AND even punted 4 times in college..

The fact that Edelman has progressed as he has is very promising. I think that Edelman has the potential to be a combination of a Deion Branch/David Givens type receiver. Especially now that he has earned Brady's trust.

Only time will tell what the results will be..

I think 12 M for 2 years is about all I'd be willing to pay Welker, based on his age and the fact that to some degree his production is a product of Brady and the system.

As far as Amendola, he has the same issue as Edelman, he can't stay on the field. He just broke his collerbone Thurday. If nothing else, maybe the Rams move on from him for that reason, I'd love to see him on a one year deal with the Pats to "prove it" (85 catches in 2010 isn't bad, but he needs to prove he can stay healthy before I'd give him legit money)

Like Bill Walsh said..."if everyone is thinking the same thing, then no one is thinking"

Most of those moves are to provide depth in emergency situations. Olinemen at FB isn't that uncommon. I think Edelman playing in the slot did better then some JAG would of coming off the street. He had plenty of time to learn the system. It's not like he was on an Island, he had protection on the backend.

Branch has been on the field for 50% of the offensive reps for the last two weeks, resulting in 2 catches for 15 yards.

Does ANYONE think that Edelman deserves more reps than Branch has gotten? If Edelman comes back healthy this week, I would suggest that Edelman take almost all of Branch's reps. When we run the 3 WR, 1 TE offense, Edelman should be on the field. Also, Edelman would be our punt returner.

Welker's reps should not be reduced because Edelman comes back.
==========================================

We can have this discussion again with regard to Hernandez. Personally, I would think that we would simply be running fewer 3 WR sets, and Edelman's reps would be decreased.
==========================================
MG'S BOTTOM LINE
When we have 2 WR's on the field, they should be Welker and Lloyd. The health of Edelman and Hernandez should not affect this conclusion.

If nothing else, based on your opinion of Edelman, Julian is the team's best punt returner. I guess you are not concerned whatsoever about field position.

I agree(about the PR and #3WR) and it sucks that it has to come to this.
I don't want Edelman starting as a replacement over Welker. Period.
He def has more in the tank than Branch at this point. However, he couldn't hold WW's jockstrap as a WR. I'm sorry if this simple truth offends some Nancys on this board.

I hope he gets well soon, to hope he stays injured is a bit jaded and just plum madness. he's shown he can come in and help move chains, decent slot depth IMO.

I'd rather see "the edelman experiment" than "the Slater experiment" that's for sure. Get well soon.

As of today, ten offensive players are on the injury report. The New England Patriots offense needs as many able bodies going forward as possible.

This is the NFL, you can never have enough depth.

Why wish Edelman would stay injured then?

Why start another Welker versus Edelman thread? This message board has been oversaturated with this topic.

It is the Branch experiment that is producing next to nothing.

It will be interesting to see how well Jabar Gaffney plays with the Dolphins. Hopefully Jabar Gaffney won't come back to bite the New England Patriots defense in the arse.

Edelman has 6 catches in 3 games, and he was getting run as the WR2.
