Just something I've been wondering about . . . does it really make sense to have Brady out there in the closing minutes of blowout wins—especially if all the Pats are going to do is hand the ball off (as they did against TEN in Week 1)?

And wouldn't giving Mallett at least a little bit of game experience be helpful, if only for evaluative purposes?

Huh? Belichick only pulls Brady when the game is completely out of hand... and even then, he often doesn't.

I would be pretty thrilled if the game got so out of hand that it became "Hoyer" .. ahem, I mean "Mallett time."

I'd rather see Brady in there pumping his stats up, to be honest.

You mean "Hammer" time?

Idk guess he could have...doesn't really matter can't even remember the last drive.

I think the game was out of hand once we were up by 21 points in the 4th. So I agree, BB should think about giving Brady the hook early once the game is in hand. But Brady hates being pulled from ball games. So I doubt it will be happening as early as we want it to as fans.

What you guys don't like running up the score?

I think that it would certainly make sense if it were a blowout earlier in the game, say around the 3rd quarter or so.

Since it really wasn't much of a "blowout" by regular terms until the 10 min mark or so of the 4th quarter and we were going to simply hand the ball off, I suppose Belichick felt that it was low risk etc.

As I said, if it happened earlier then I would've been more concerned, and I think we'd likely have seen him pulled.

no..keep him in. keep that motor going and bring some momentum into the next week

That is the way we do business in New England, even though I thought about it, knew it probably would not happen....

Buffalo needed to the thought a lesson. The best teacher we have is Brady

No deep pass to Lloyd if that is the case.

I don't pay for subscription services to watch Ryan Mallett.

I definitely want to see more Mallett, both for evaluation purposes and to market him. I still don't like him and want to see him traded to the Jets, we could probably draft AJ McCarron as a backup for cheap provided he removes that stupid tattoo.

the last drive ended in a FG?

maybe BB purposefully wanted to give the Ghost an "easy" FG attempt, and in that needed to have the ball moved....

in hindsight we did that simply by running, but had our running game been stuffed, Brady could have converted through the air

Eh, I'm not such a big fan of it. If the game is well in hand, I'd rather see him on the bench resting up. It's enough that the risk of injury is there in regular time, but why risk it during garbage time? But, then again, it's not my decision to make. It's Brady's and the coaching staff's.

I would have. Brady has enough on his shoulders as is. The more plays you leave him out there increases the odds of an injury, so mathematically it'd make sense to not have him out there when the game is completely out of reach.

The only exception I'd make is if it happens like every week, because come playoff tme Brady does need to have the endurance to last the full game and you can't just have your star guy used to playing 3 or 3.5 quarters. But I would like to see some Mallett maybe once every 3 or 4 games if a blowout ensues.

I was calling for Mallett on that last drive. As usual BB ignored me.

Brady NEEDS to be in there in the fourth. We have been taking our foot off the gas in the fourth lately and it has cost us, especially the ravens game. In that ravens game we got conservative and was trying to waste time instead of scoring and going full fledge no huddle etc. This is the first step back to our running up the score ways.

I would rather deal with the media *****n about us running up the score than to deal with heartbreaking losses. Plus blowout wins take the anxiety off my heart. Im young but i don't need that kind of stress in my life. lol

I would like to see more of Mallett, but for a couple of reasons, I think keeping Brady in there was definitely the right call. First, the offense struggled in the 4th against the Ravens. Good to see them wrap the game up. Second, it was only week four and Brady still needs to develop the rapport with some of his targets, most notably Lloyd. Looked like that worked out well. Third, I think it builds momentum for a very important game this week.

I think we are likelier to see Mallett later in the year. Or in the case of an absolutely blowout a la Hoyer getting reps when we beat the Titans 59-0.
