I think it was Kyle Williams during the Buffalo game.

Im surprised no one is talking about that here. It seems to have been lost amidst the 2nd half resurgence.

The Bills player dropped down, dove at Bradys knee in a bad angle. I understand "its football" and stuff happens, but it looked pretty dirty and intentional to me. Like he wasn't even trying to tackle Brady. It looked how I imagine it would look if a player was purposely trying to break someones leg. It wasn't even one motion, and its not like the guy got blocked into Bradys leg. Williams dropped down to his knees, and then dove right at Bradys knee.

Similar to the Garay hit on Bradys knee last year. I can't believe football players are that dirty. Trying to take another mans livelihood and career away like that.

God bless that knee brace. I think it just saved Brady and our season for the second year in a row.

Any gifs/pics/vids would be appreciated if any of you have them.

Any time someone is withing 2 feet of Brady's legs I cringe. I hate how people were saying that they only called a penalty because it was Brady when I see it called for every single quarterback. Also, I can't believe (but I'm happy) that Fitzpatrick wasn't injured when he got hit high and low and bent over backwards. Looked scary.

I held my breath during that play specially because the announcer screamed and I thought he was gonna say "Brady is down!" and I was on the verge of tears!! Luckily he screamed because of the flag.

It was definitively a dirty play though.

That used to be called a "tackle".

and the stupid announcer:

-while the picture on the TV s downfield where the pass happened: "Someone hit Brady in the knees..."

im like what?....what?....what? and the picture is not going back to Brady

but two seconds after the hit Brady was up again....stupid announcer could have included that in his little tidbit of info he game the whole world

as for the hit, i also seemed dirty to me, but it seemed as if the guy at first just wanted to get to brady (not his knees specifically) and then after he had committed realized it was dangerous and tried to pull away...still a bit dirty though

Everytime something like that happens, I get a bit scared until they show him standing again.
I think that hit made him kind of mad.

LOL Me too.

When it happened the camera panned away and you couldn't see what happened.

When the camera panned back to Brady, he was walking around like nothing happened. I was relieved!

That "tackle" can instantly end careers and put an entire franchise in disarray.

Its the single most dirtiest thing in football. Purposely diving at a defenceless QBs leg.

If you actually saw the play, you'd see that it wasn't like he just grabbed a leg for a tackle. He threw his entire shoulder directly at Bradys knee. I was surprised Brady got back up from that.

Was waiting for one of these threads

It wasn't a cheap shot. Of course he ntentionally dove at him because that's his job! You think he's going to lay down and think (given the game speed) 'oh I better not try and get to him because I might hit below his knee'? You don't process that. You have one thought on your mind and that's to get to, sack, or hit the QB.

He will rightfully get a fine but I don't think he intentionally went low to try and injure Brady.

As you said, 'it's football'...leave it at that.

That is correct,it was not a dirty shot

There are always whining crybabies complaining now everytime a Patriot takes a hit.....this is football guys, things happen...grow some balls.

Kyle Williams is a great athlete and he just happened to fall in that direction towards Brady's knees, but what people fail to realize is these are 300 pound guys going as fast as they can to get to the QB as is thier job to do.

When Kyle arrived at Brady's legs,Brady's leg bent but Kyle DID NOT continue to hold onto the leg as Brady went to the ground,he released his hold......THAT is the difference between dirty and not dirty play.

He was walking around like nothing happened until he got in the end zone and called the Bills 'phucking biznatches'!

When I saw it at game speed and in the replay TO ME - it didn't look "intentional dirty"; but it did look "out of control-illegal".

He had used a move to get past the LT and his momentum was carrying him in wrong direction to get to TB legally; so he lunged the only way he could which under the rules is just wrong. So, he does still bear some culpability - because he decided that being out of control was ok if he could just get there.*

Luckily, Brady was turning in correct (to the right) way (away from tackle) so that his knee would bend and give. Otherwise this board would be full of a lot of gloom and doom right now.

------------------------------

* Interesting thought experiment (to me anyway):

When is it OK to commit an 'illegal' act for the benefit of the team:

Obviously- PI rather than give up a breakaway TD is ok right?

what about tackling by the facemask and give up the 15yards instead of a TD?

and then if you are ok with that; what is the difference between that and hitting the QB low - also a 15yarder?

The hit was clean, worse part was the few seconds before they showed Brady after Dierdorf was acting like Brady was injured...:bricks:

Dierdorf actually forgot Toms name thus the moment of silence,it made it sound like he thought he was hurt :bricks:

If Dierdorf played pro football like he announces,he would have been cut 2 hours into training camp in his rookie season.

It was in no way intentional and was very bang/bang, the guy was on the ground couldnt see what happenend with the throw and reached out. That penalty likely would not have been called on 25 other qbs but always Brady gets it since the Pollard play.

It was no where near a cheap shot.

It wasn't a "cheap shot" or "dirty play" until about 5 years ago. It use to be called a player giving second effort trying to make a play.

I understand why the NFL has ruled it a penalty. But unless it's done with the intent to injure (and no one can look into a players heart or mind) then it's now just an illegal play with a penalty attached to it.

I didn't see intent to injure there. I saw a player get taken to the ground and make every effort to get to the quarterback to disrupt the pass. He just happened to hit Brady in an area that knocked Brady out of the game for a year or so. With that in mind, if the Patriots had gotten flagged for that, a lot of people here would be complaining about the referees. I'm not a big fan of the overprotection they're giving quarterbacks these days. Pretty soon, we'll be putting a pink skirt on them so opposing defenses know that they're ultra protected and can't be touched.

Yes some of the new rules seem to carry protection a little too far. But those are the rules that players have to play with and coaches have to teach them.

I come from an era when cross body blocks were considered a thing of beauty and it was practiced all the time. There was nothing more satifying than to make a perfect cross body block. You never even felt the other guy and all you could see is his flying in the air and landing with a thump.:D But they have been illegal for years now and it has to be accepted.

But now the OP seems to indicate that making a second effort at game speed is now "dirty" or a "cheap shot".

I'm a big fan of it. What coach, in the history of football, ever teaches a guy to go above the chest/shoulder area? None what so ever.

In contrast, some coaches will preach to take bigger ball carriers below the hips because it's sometimes the best way to bring him down if you're an undersized corner...but the QB isn't a ball carrier until he tucks and runs.

However, a QB is the most vulnerable player on the pitch because when he's stepping in to a throw, he has no way to brace and protect himself. Therefore diving below the knee is an incredibly dangerous play given the fragile position the knee is in.

If you tackle a QB the way a form tackle is supposed to be made you should, by logic, never be flagged for an illegal hit on a QB. So anyone getting flagged for contact with a QBs head or below the knees is an idiot and only has himself to blame.

Wilfork's hit on Jones on Sunday is a class example of how you can play clean and hard football without launching, diving at knees and hitting high. There's no excuse for it and the league is 100 % right to clamp down on it.

I saw the play and he didn't follow through because he realized he couldn't legally. To say it was dirty would be to say any attempt at getting to the quarterback was dirty. If he had the intent to injure Brady no matter what, we wouldn't be talking about this., he could have.
