The Patriots announced the signing of seven players off their practice squad to contracts for the 2007 season:

They will be added to the 80-man offseason roster on March 1st.

CB James Patrick was on the practice squad to end the season but was not re-signed.

TE Rod Trafford was on the practice squad/injured list to end the season but was not re-signed.

Hmmm, think maybe there will be a competition for punter at training camp?

They always have 2 punters and 2 kickers so the starters don't get worn out on ST drills.

I think Miller retains the job (helluva season in 2005).

Malone and Baugher were on the practice squad, so they'll stick around until more room is needed on the roster.

Currently, here's how the Pats' 2007 roster breaks down:

Offseason limit is 80, excluding NFLE exemptions (the Pats have yet to announce who'll be heading over to Europe). Numbers include today's signings, plus WR Jonathan Smith, who was signed to a 2007 contract on January 4th:

Under 2007 contract: 49
Exclusive Rights free agents: 10
Restricted free agents: 4
Unrestricted free agents: 14

They already have 3 now, and it's still possible they may re-sign Walter and/or Sauerbrun.

To borrow from Jean-Luc Picard: I refuse to believe that the Patriots need to re-sign Ken Walter . . . the Universe is not so poorly designed! ;)

is BAM on the 53 man roster?

I imagine that their next signings will be their NFL Europe people.

They will probably sign most of their ERFA's but I do not expect them

to tender any of their RFA's (minimum tender is $850,000 per year).

They will use about 10 of their draft picks and trade away a couple.

This will leave room for 10 to 15 UFA's or undrafted rookies.

A good move signing almost all....I love it how they develop talent..INteresting that Thonmas was signed....as he'll be in his 3rd year and begind Wilfork amd Wright and....Smith. SO apparently they think he's in the running. Vaugher and Malone as punters?? Looking for a good youmg pne in case Miller is not back at full strength. Bubin could be a solid tackle in time and Barthelmes may be a giant inyerior lineman..never can have enough good ones..depth is always needed. Hill is another versatile back...funny how there were a few like that...and both MIlls and Hill ended up with the Patriots. Kranchick is a tall TE..hmmm..nore a receiver than a blocker?? Good signings..one wonders what about Patrick.
Do we know for sure Trafford wasn't signed??

Fifty players under contract and a spare $33 million to spend, in 2007. Putting pennies inthe piggy bank really add up. :D

I think this is just a procedural housecleaning move. By signing these players, the Pats keep other teams from picking apart their practice squad. Most teams do this.

Two punters signed plus Miller. So, Sauerbraun is not coming back. He played well agai:rocker: nst the Bolts and the Colts. Go Pats

Too bad i wanted to see him and his jacked arms (steroid arms) back.
