After the bashing he took last week, he deserves his own thread this week.
I would have to go back and watch the film, but from memory he may have caught more than he allowed, with 2 picks and the only completion against him I remember was on the defensive right sideline when he was over there.
And no the late TD was NOT his man, he had the outside receiver and was the closest only because he left his man when the ball went up.

Excellent day by McCourty, perhaps Curran will sit down and interview him this afternoon too.

I think a 2 int day isn't bad.

Well done Devin.

He was solid although his first interception was more a case of Fitzpatrick making a bad throw. He makes a good throw and that's a TD. The second interception was simply brilliant however. Great adjustment and played the ball perfectly.

Hopefully this is the game we all look back to as the game that Devin started to turn things around.

Great game from him. Hopefully a return to rookie form begins now.

McCourty has now been really good for 2.9 of the last 3 games. That .1 of a game just came at a really bad time.

Good game for McCourty. He answered the bell, that's for sure.

McCourty got more blame than he deserved last week, and will probably get more praise than he deserves this week, so it evens out in a weird way. On his first INT, he was beaten, but the ball was underthrown and he made a good play on it. It's tempting to write it off as Fitzpatrick making a mistake, but McCourty still deserves a lot of credit for capitalizing on it and making them pay. Second INT was a fantastic play on the ball, though. Great body control, very athletic play to get himself in position to make the grab.

No, no, no. On the first one, McCourty was playing perfect technique. Fitzpatrick couldn't lead the WR because there was safety help, and the S would have picked it if there was that much more air under it.

He was playing trail technique and Chung was closing so he wasn't beaten.

I'm not sure how he could get too much credit this week.
Its not the Ints, its more that they got nothing against him all day.
Ints are one play, day long shutting down your man or zone is a lot more than that.
By the way, he wasn't beaten on the 1st Int he was playing perfect trail coverage, baiting the throw with S help and closing the gap.
That play right there was what he did masterfully as a rookie and awfully last year, and was 99% of the difference in his play.

It's whenever he turns his head back and look for the ball, good things happen. Problem is he doesn't do that on every play

Well, there is really only one instance this year that comes to mind.
That wass in single coverage on a 3rd and 9 where the Ravens were facing a 51 yard FG if they gained nothing. McCourty gambled and played the stick and got run by. You can't look back for the ball when you are chasing to catch up to the receiver.

Anyone have a GIF of the second interception? It was really a thing of beauty.

Still not sold on McCourty. I'll withhold judgement until next Sunday, after Peyton comes to town.

It's not just McCourty that worries me. I will give him props for today, and hope that he performs like this next week. The safeties scare me to death. I hope they can straighten things out in time for Peyton.

I'll have to re-watch it but I don't recall a safety coming into the frame until long after the interception.

The safety was deep help and taking the angle to ahead of the route while McCourty trailed it. There may be a question of whether he got there quickly enough or not, but McCourty carried out his assingment perfectly.

Peyton doesn't have the arm strength to really challenge them anymore. As long as they keep the plays in front of them they'll be fine. It's the CBs who will be mostly tested, IMO.
