There's a lot of dead time between now and game time and I'd thought I'd help you fill it. Once again my intentions are to make this short (relatively), but that doesn't always work out well. Lets see how it goes.

1. It is rather daunting to think that there is a realistic chance that the Pats could be 1-3 later on this afternoon. Its been over a decade since we as fans have been in that territory. Hell its been a long while since we've seen 2-2. I'd hate to think we have become the spoiled annoying child who lacks nothing, yet complains about everything. But the sad fact is after reading this board for much of this season....we have

We are fast becominng the NFL's version of Red Sox fans who after a decade of constant winning can't deal with a SINGLE season with a bad team and want to blow up the entire team. Get rid of players (they all suck) get rid of the ownership (the 2 championships, the beautiful rebuilt ballpark, and good competitive teams mean nothing...They suck.

I recall listening to a caller complain that he's been a season ticket holder for 10 years and is giving them up because of how badly this season had gone. WHAT A *****! One disappointing season and he's throwing way his "pink hat" and running away. Try being a Royal fan, or a Pirate fan, or even a Cub fan. I really wanted to grab that guy by the stack and swivel and tell him to grow a pair.

2. As we become more and more polarized as a nation....(by design btw) our tendency to blame and pile on has become intensified. Even on this board the level of invective toward players is rising to new levels of negativity. It seems some people couldn't wait to "blame" someone for the loss.

3. The best example of this was the McCourty hatred. Quite frankly I was surprised, since I thought he by and large did well in that game. So when he got killed here I decided to stay away from the debate, since I already know that "hatred" knows know bounds and there was noi reason to bother to participate, which would have been akin to hammering ones toe with a hammer.

So I was pleased to see Bedard confirm my impression of McCourty's play with his "all 22" breakdown. I'm a afraid that certain people here are going to have to deal with the simple fact that the McCourty they are getting THIS season is more like the one he saw in in his rookie year than the one we saw last season. And boy doesn't that just piss the "haters" off. They don't want to hear that!. God, with Edelman out this game, where will they turn their incipid anger. ;) Though I'm sure they won't have any trouble finding someone.

4. If I had BB sitting hear over breakfast with me, I'd have a few questions that need to be asked about that game.

a. Where was Ridley? There is not bigger Woody fan than me, but for the life of me I couldn't understand why it was Woody Rather than Ridley who got the majority of the rushing snaps in the 2nd half. I can only speculate that Steven did or didn't do something that pissed his coaches off. I'm guessinng it had something to do with pass blocking.

b. Why didn't we see the 3 TE offense more often. IIRC I saw it run about twice. The first time it was to the short side and we picked up about 5 yds. The next play it was to the strong side and we picked up around 12.......then we never saw it again.

c. And here is the big one. Compare the 2 teams. At the end of the game the Ravens clearly went all in and just blitzed the crap out of the Pats and had some success. At the end of the game the Pats, who were having trouble in the last quarter holding the Ravens, CONTINUED to do nothing aggressive on defense. What did Bedard say, the Pats rushed more than 4 only 2 times all game  Tell me are the Pats having to play pro bowl rules while the rest of the league gets to blitz? It might not be smart to blitz all the time, but on occassion it can't hurt. You know you can't fake a blitz if you never actually run one.

5. You can't say that officiating cost the Pats that game, because there were some horrible calls on both sides, but DAMNED IT, its my right as a fan to say that there were at least a half DOZEN calls that could have cost the Pats the game,. not just one. Just go back to the non-call on Edelman in the end zone. The phantom hold on Mayo that kept a drive alive, etc etc. It was just SOOOOOOOOO frustrating knowing that on that last drive there WAS going to be a PI called, and even though I'd have to say it was the right call, if it hadn't had been that one, it would have been another.

I can't believe its a full week later and I'm still pissed off. Just goes to show you how being 1-2 can affect you. ;) You kjow the Packers game was just a bad call at the end of the game, but it was just ONE call. This game was call after call after call after call. It just never stopped!

6. It looks like we are going to see our first Daniel Fells sighting this week. Let see how that works out.

7. I will be interested in seeing how Jones and Hightower bounce back this week. Neither had a good game, in fact, Hightower had a bad one. Adversity is agreat teacher. Well those 2 young pups are going down to the den of adversity today.

8. CJ Spiller is a great example of time and experience. He did nothing for 2 years, and now is leading the league in rushing. I'm sure there are STILL Bills fans who are clinging to their position that he still sucks. Yup they have them too. ;)

9. One disturbing factor is starting to imerge. Over the last half dozen years the number of big games that the Pats have lost where ONE defensive stop, or ONE more first down wouild have one the game are piling up. Quite frankly its getting epidemic. I don't know how to stop it, but someone should think of something quickly, its starting to become the expected result as opposed to the surprising outcome

10.. Tough game today. Tough venue. We are not healthy. However THESE are the kind of games the Pat have historically won over the last decade.

OK this should get you through to pregame anyway. Don't forget to enjoy the game.

You're sort of all over the place with this. The way you wrote this, it seems that you're saying the Pats are "a bad team" which probably isn't what you meant.

Also, think you're WAY too focused on this negativity you seem to find everywhere. On balance, I'd say this board is relatively even-keel.

As for McCourty...."that pisses the haters off?" Huh? No, I think we'd all like to see McCourty play well. But your frustration about the continued failure at the end of games ties into this. McCourty didn't play well at the end of the Ravens game, which is only the difference between winning and losing. Hopefully that will change, but it certainly wasn't what we saw from him in 2010.

Good read. I like to read your threads to lift my hopes before the game. Some how I dont feel all that confident this time;).....BTW, I'm fine with Edlemans performance, but I'm still a little down on McCourty. Lets hope the coaching scheme will allow for a "W" today.:rocker:

I see you put the spotlight, a little bit anyway, on the coaches.
When you have your breakfast with BB I hope you can get some good
answers.
I see a team with so much talent both on Offense and Defense and yet
they are underachieving. IMO.
Ok wait until November and it will be better. I get it. But I can't help
but think a lot the issues the PATs may be having is because of the coaching
talent this team has. We have lost a lot of good coaches since the
Superbowl years. Just maybe the replacements are not at the same
level. I just wish Romeo was here and yes Charlie! also ... to name a few.

I don't think the comparison with the Red sox is deserved either.

Two totally different situations and lets be honest. They've sucked for over 3 seasons now

The offense has been better every season since Weis left than it was when he was here.

Ken might have been better served spending more time listening to the WEEI pre game show this AM than rehashing his own idle thoughts. Explained a lot of things he still doesn't grasp about the way this team operates on both sides of the ball and why.

Bedard has a point about a secondary that plays in no mans land, and those analysts acknowledged that too, but that is what it is and it's been what it is for a long time now. Ditto the conservative approach to blitzing. Trouble is as the morning analysts pointed out self scouting tells you at some point you have to adjust your approach at times to play to a strength as opposed to merely away from weakness as well as execute or the results are going to remain the same.

10.. Tough game today. Tough venue. We are not healthy. However THESE are the kind of games the Pat have historically won over the last decade.

OK this should get you through to pregame anyway. Don't forget to enjoy the game.

Historically, the Pats play well when their backs are to the wall. And historically, they tend to regroup when faced with adversity. There's no guarantee that those things can't change, but I wouldn't bet that today is that day or that this season is that season. Even if the Pats somehow lose today (and I suspect they will play quite well), I still think they will be fine by the end of the season, assuming they can get some guys healthy. Injuries are a great equalizer, and depth can only go so far.

As fans we've become terribly spoiled. We deserve a little adversity. It shouldn't faze us - I'm sure it's not fazing BB or TB. The team may even be better for it in the long run. Regardless, I'm fairly certain that the Pats are going to be a good team by the end of the season, and as long as they don't dig too deep a hole they will be in the hunt down the stretch. The regular season is just a warm-up for the playoffs. Get into the tournament and all bets are off. Seeding and home field are helpful, but they haven't been any guarantee in the past. And I don't see any of the AFC East teams running away with the division, even if the Pats lose today.

It's not how you play at the beginning of the season, it's how you play at the end. The 2001 SB team started 5-5. The 2009 Giants started 5-0 and failed to make the playoffs, whereas the 2011 Giants had to fight for their life to sneak in as the #6 seed and won the SB. I have yet to see a September game that determined the outcome of a season, including the 2008 opener against Kansas City. There's a lot more of this story yet to be written.

Relax, Ken. It's after 11:00 a.m. It's the new Patriots defense against Ryan Fitzpatrick.

Time to crack open the first cold frosty of the day and enjoy this:

Buffalo Bills @ New York Jets CB Antonio Cromartie 40 Yard Interception Return Touchdown - YouTube
Unfortunately my recollection is of the Ryan Fitzpatrick who didn't seem to miss a pass early last fall. Hopefully a combination of a more aggressive pass rush and better secondary play will cause the kind of erratic play you predict.

Sorry, Mo, did I forget to submit my post to you for editorial review, or are you jut upset that I ddin't kowtow to your party line.

And please don't tell me what I grasp or don't grasp. That is the height of presumption. But not surprising coming from you. If you had your way I guess BB would just let YOU take care of that press conference.....I mean, since you are so good at "graspijng"

Well "grasp THIS" you egotistical pompous ass....and I hope you enjoy the game. ;)

We all know these games seem to always come down to one, two maybe three plays in a game.

Make the play and you win, continue to give up that 3 and long or failure to pick up the first down on 3 and one, or fail to execute on special teams is the difference between almost and Championships.

Those three banners were the result of FINISHING - something that I hope to see, starting today.

1. It is rather daunting to think that there is a realistic chance that the Pats could be 1-3 later on this afternoon.
The seer deserves props.

But ... there is always a but ... it's not so daunting once you consider the true context. This is not the Patriots. This is a team wearing the Patriots unis but they have not grown up and become the Patriots v. 52 yet. Anything goes until then. Team does count. Brady cannot and does not carry this team, never did, counting SB rings for Brady is like counting beans instead of realizing what a great team actually is.

They need to find themselves as a team. Gronk needs to find his game. The magician OC needs to find a way to stop tinkering with what works. Lots has to happen but if and when it happens they will be everything we thought they'd be. They might just end up being a dangerous B level team though. Who ever knows? They are deep in a process and it has to be a big concern to every one of them. This winning thing doesn't come so easily, eh? Big name stars doesn't make it happen automatically. They gotta find themselves as a team.

Yeah, right. What a poor, pathetic excuse of a team we have.

I find it hard to comprehend the level of idiocy behind your post. Every season is about climbing the mountain all over again. Every team has to find its own identify and come together as a team. The 2011 team did it when they got beat up by the Steelers and then lost to the Giants on the final drive. Gut check time, time for the team to come together. This team seems to be coming together fine.

This game should have never have been close (31 1st downs vs. 15), but the offense made multiple mistakes. The defense never buckles and made a number of key stops, and the offense has proven that once it turns on the jets it can dominate anyone, on the ground or in the air. 242 yards rushing so far - shades of 2008.

This team has had to weather some adversity in the first quarter of the season, and has come through just fine. I don't expect winning the AFC East to be much of a challenge, but this team will be battle hardened and playoff ready by the end of the season. Houston is waltzing through inferior competition right now, but I'll take our playoff preparation over theirs any day.

I'll take this team any time. And I suspect BB's pretty content with what he's got, too.
