Now that our season is over,We start looking at resigning some Key players of the team. From what I understand,Those are Dan Graham,Troy Brown,Asante Samuel...But,More Importantly.Does anyone know what the status is for our Hall of Fame Coach? I know there has been some rumors going on that he was risigned last year I think it was? But Seriously,Of all the above mentioned players.I think we would suffer far worse as a team if we were to lose Bill..I don't see this happening but in short order, this is something that needs to be addressed ASAP in my opinion...I am sorry if this subject has already been dealt with many times on this board. It's just something that's been on my mind when I think about football...

Robert Kraft said that "Any representation that 2006 is the final year of Bill Belichick's contact would be untrue."

Belichick was asked about it on WEEI Monday, but said "As always, I will not talk about contract status. I don't want to start on that streak now."

When asked if he'll be back next year, he responded with "I'm here."

However, he did thank the fans and said that the Pats will be back next year.

Ya i think he slipped when he said that (mabey a slip on purpose). From the tone of everything in his interview it sounded like he planned on staying a while!

I always find these BB threads amusing. Here is my take:

1. BB == New England Patriots. We can all talk about replacing various players or coordinators, but we all know BB is THE BEST.

2. Kraft knows this. He is not going to let this guy walk over money or power.

3. Often overlooked point -- BB thinks in terms of multi-year strategy to build up a team. (When he interviewed, he had binders showing how the team building would evolve from year 1 to 2 to 3 etc. He has been implementing this strategy
- draft first round grade A beef on defensive line
- apparently draft grade A beef at tight end and some OL too
- build true depth at every position so that you can overcome injuries

BB has gotten to the current point through hard work and strategy over the past 7 years. Why would he accept a job at another team, where he would have to start all over? "OK where is the next Seymour to draft this year? Who can we get to play nose in free agency until we can draft the next Vince the year after?" etc

Conclusion: BB is not going anywhere, unless Kraft totally screws up. He is here until he decides its no longer fun to contend for super bowls every year. Lucky us! That might last another 5-10 years!!!! OMG!!!!:rocker: :rocker:

Later:D

IMO if BB had planned on this being his last season here he would have broken the bank with Branch to go for the Super Bowl title this year instead of worrying about the implication in future years on the Pats salary cap.

BB's father, Steve Belichick was at Navy for 33 years. He could have gone elsewhere and made more money, but he was in a situation he liked and stayed.

Bill is in a situation he likes, and it wouldn't surprise me if he's the highest paid coach in the league.

If I had to predict, I'd bet BB will be here for a long while.

Good point about his dad. BB doesn't strike me as nomadic, like Parcells. I think he knows how easy it is to end up in a crappy situation you regret.

I think I read that he is signed through next season along with a team option for 2008.

Managing General Partner Al Davis always had a contract with only only a single year to run on it. There was an automatic renewal provision, and a team optional year. It almost sounds like Bill has one of those automatically extending contracts too.

I remember an interview where Kraft said he never wanted a team with a Coaching situation that wasn't longterm. It made planning impossible and short term thinking could intrude. That was one of the reasons that Parcells and he were at loggerheads. Parcells was always talking about retiring and then objected when Kraft tried to provide some long range planning with a GM. Bobby Grier was the wrong GM, but it led Parcells to complaining about making the meal without selecting and buying the groceries...

That adds up to a long term contract situation, IMHO.

If you listen to the EEI interview from yesterday, he definately sounded like he wants to stay in NE. At least that's the vibe I got. Hopefully if he's not signed, he'll get signed quick and they can make an announcement. But I gotta admit, I'm a little nervous hearing all these rumors. I don't want to think about the Pats without Belichick.
