Packer fans are attempting a mass boycott. Will you join?

WAUWATOSA—The call from Monday night’s game is prompting some Packers fans to call for an NFL boycott. Patti Wetzel came up with the idea and has been using social media to spread the word.
"Next Thursday through Monday we don't anyone watching the NFL, we don't want anyone going to the games," Wetzel said.
Wetzel and others turned to Facebook, creating an event they hope will catch on across the country.
"This is not just disgruntled Packer fans or disgruntled people in Wisconsin,” she said. “This is all over the country because everyone has been on the receiving end of these bad calls and bad officiating."
Wetzel hopes the boycott message spreads from the Wisconsin restaurant where she works to NFL fans everywhere, who just like her, have had enough.

I know some of you believe it's not going to make a big deal, and it won't have a long lasting effect. But I bet many also didn't expect 70,000 of us to pick up the phones at midnight on monday night, and made calls to the NFL last night, but we did. So at least a part of us, are not quite as complacent as some would say we are. The Packers are not the only team that got screwed over this past weekend. We did as well and our coach is in talks of being fined or suspended for simply trying to give us and his team an explanation. Regardless of what this franchise may have been accused of in the past, here is your chance to prove that we, as fans, stand by having a clean, officiated game and we would much prefer it if none of this ever happened and do support a clean, competitive football game, win or lose. At the very least, it will put pressure on the media to not let this matter go and sweep it under the rug betting on our inability to focus on an event for more than a day and our short memories.

It's simple, here is your chance to stand up for what you are passionate about and what you really believe in. You have little to lose. Personally I am in. I can very easily control myself for one weekend. It's up to you. Just my two cents. Or you could sit by, do nothing, and cry about it on here next week when it happens again....

PS: And as a suggestion, for those of you that just can't get away from your crack, you could simply have a couple of guys on here keep up with the scores, drives, results, etc and post them on here for everyone to see. It helps a non official website out with some traffic, who believes in doing things the right way, and at the very least it puts pressure on TV ratings, the only people we can affect.

Its great in theory but I cant imagine people that spent money on tickets will not go to the games.

That said I was one of those 70,000 that called the league office today, not that I think it will do anything but just out of principle.

And this is where us our fans need to rise above this. Jets are happy we lost unfairly too. I'm sure they wouldn't participate either. But if you can put those differences aside for one weekend for a greater cause, it's a you scratch my back, I scratch yours situation that could pay off for everyone in the long run.

After all, can you really feel proud of a win in such a manner as a fan? I know I couldn't and wouldn't be bragging about it. And to be honest with you, I'm not sure what would feel worse: losing as a Packers fan, or if I was a Seattle fan and "won" that game.

Both sides lost, no matter how you look at it.

Ironically, my bet is there's going to be a measurable *uptick* in SNF/MNF viewership next weekend -- according to the Nielsens, last night's postgame SportsCenter was watched by more people than any prior SportsCenter.

People are going to tune in to watch the trainwreck, so at least for a while, any boycott will overwhelmed by the viewers attracted by the controversy.

I pay a good chunk of change for DirecTV so's I can get the NFL Sunday Ticket, Red Zone, etc. I'm not going to boycott watching New England play, or anything else.

What I WILL do is this: I contacted the Patriots Pro Shop and said that, until the Faux Refs are gone and the real ones come back, I'm not spending a dime on NFL merchandise.

Now, my purchases, in the long run, will be negligible to their bottom line, but it will still be a couple hundred bucks that Mr. Kraft won't be seeing in his spread sheet. If other folks and fans of other teams followed suit, then that, it seems to me, would carry a LOT more weight than simply not watching the games.

I don't think in that way...."What difference will my voice make, when everyone else will do it?" That's usually the thinking right? Well with that type of thinking nothing ever gets done.

I do it primarily out of personal principle. If you are happy with a tainted, but certainly entertaining and drama filled game-for the wrong reasons - then that's fine.

But if you are sick of this crap, down to your stomach, you simply won't watch or participate for YOURSELF, out of your own personal principles, and be certain that you will not be the only one who feels that way and is doing the same thing.

There are other forms of entertainment that can take up your time. Apply your personal standards, whatever they may be.

Hell, no. I wait 8-9 months every year for 16-20 weeks of football regardless of who is reffing. These poor slobs may be struggling and making less than half what the regular screw ups make, but it's still NFL football and I want mine and I refuse to allow it to be ruined by a bunch of agenda driven fools. Not going to pass it up over some labor management tempest in a teapot that will be over one way or another in the next couple of months. This is just the same media driven hystrionics we just endured for months during the actual players lockout. In the end the owners prevailed and the world as we know it didn't end. Won't this time either. Although I may begin to watch with the sound muted...

I've heard many people say that the NFL, which has locked out the regular officials since June due to a contract dispute, has all the leverage because of the mind-blowing popularity of the sport.

But what if the game suddenly wasn't so popular? What if we fans stopped watching and attending games, buying merchandise, tuning in to the league's network, playing fantasy football, etc.? Then Commissioner Roger Goodell and company would have to take notice, right?

I know it would be tough. Real tough. But for the sake of the game we love so much, maybe we should boycott the NFL until the real refs are brought back.

LA...the land that couldn't support an NFL team when it had one is going to boycott. Or at least 3300 of the millions who inhabit lala land may.
