What drives gamblers insane is the possibility that what happened on the field doesn't show up in the final score, and that's apparently the case from Monday night's game. When Russell Wilson lofted his final pass, Green Bay was ahead by five, covering a spread of 3 1/2. When Golden Tate got at least a hand on the ball, apparently enough to consider it a touchdown in the eyes of a referee, that gave Seattle the win both on the field and against the spread. Boom: instant reversal.

So how much money are we talking here? ESPN.com quotes John Avello, director of The Wynn Las Vegas' sports book, as saying the total in play could have been $150 million. Online gambling officials pegged the number at a staggering quarter-billion dollars.

At least one sports book has apparently decided to sidestep the controversy by refunding the losers their money in the form of a free play, according to NESN. Sportsbook.com took the unusual step because, as one company official put it, "I can't stand winning unfairly so I am going to give the punters their money back."

this is what will force the owners to actually spend .11% of the TV revenue alone on the ref pension plan


money talks......between this and too many 1 oclock games going long, into the start of the 4 oclock games, the NFL has got to listen.....

Actually I mentioned something on the same subject yesterday,before the game.

I don't know why these replacement refs want ot continue. They were clearly intimidated by the Baltimore crowd during the 4th quarter of Sundays game.

Their idenity is not a secret. I think that it's not far fetched that some nut, who just lost a big bet on a game, might be driven by rage and look one of the ref's up.

Is it really worth the extra $ when they could be back in DIV III any time the real refs reach agreement?

I haven't posted on here since the Super Bowl when it seems some people thought my suggestion of a different playoff format and the fact that I believed the NFL stinks with fixing rubbed some people the wrong way.

But it doesn't take a genius to figure out, "incompetency" is simply a scapegoat for what's really going on.

Per First Take, some sources are reporting estimates close to 1 billion including off shore accounts. And that's just a monday night regular season game.

I can only imagine how much money is made off of a playoff or Super Bowl game, and the ratings increase that the NFL just received thanks to this fiasco. Bookies win, NFL wins, ratings are high, and we all lose.

It's amazing to me this article is getting so little attention, when it really is the smoking gun. "Incompetence" doesn't just begin the final minutes of the game which just happens to express itself as 4 consecutive penalty plays for the home team and underdog, that just happen to help them move the entire length of the field and result in an interception for a win!

That is some very decisive and determined "incompetence" by any standard.

In the end there may be little anyone can do about this thing. The only advice I have is stop putting your heart into this so much. It's out of our team's hands a lot of times.

You know what the worst part of this thing is? We may see something really tragic happen that is going to make the NFL look really bad. So far it's at the point where it's finally getting the attention of regular media, but we could still see something really bad happen over this.

The NFL is risking a lot. They remind me of gamblers taking the ultimate risk to get back a negligible amount of money.

Four botched calls then...beause some should have been called, that didn't.

Seattle moved down the length of the field pretty much on penalties. And it's not dissimilar to what happened with the Pats and Ravens the night before.

It is the next huge scandal for professional sports and I am sure that the league is trying desperately to keep a lid on what is really going on. But now it is more obvious than ever. The Patriots game was rigged as was the Packers game and most of the others.

It would be nice if it was so simple as just the replacement refs. Personally I feel the bigger question is, why wouldn't the greedy owners want a piece of that pie as well? That to me, is the bigger underlying story behind all this that will unfortunately stop at the surface....blamed on a couple of "incompetent" referees and help drive a labor dispute. The real problem, meanwhile...goes unnoticed and, aside from one comment by Stephen A Smith on First Take, is never even addressed in the media.

This is actually a good opportunity to at least crack that lid open, and begin asking questions, when the majority of the fans believe this league is some sort of sanctuary of integrity, and it's blasphemous to dare to question it.

Anyway, I'm far too passionate on this topic and probably said enough, because I feel it's like fighting an uphill battle and it usually ends up with passionate fans burning a messenger with ridicule and accusations.

But I hope at least more of you, at the very least, allow yourselves to question the possibility.

The notion that last night's game was fixed in favor of Seattle is idiotic. If the game was fixed, the last thing they would do is let it come down to a crazy 1-in-a-million Hail Mary the way it did. All it would take is a well timed holding call against the Packers offense on a couple key 3rd downs and you never get to have the crazy ending we saw.

The fact that is had such a crazy ending proves it wasn't fixed, not the reverse. Besides, one question I've asked which no one has ever answered: What does the NFL gain by fixing games?

As it is now I think the NFL already looks really bad.

The Lingerie League apparently released a formal announcement today stating that the Lingerie League officials currently working the NFL are actually Lingerie League officials that were released from the LL for incompetence.

On the one hand I can see such an entity just trying to take advantage of the opportunity to generate some press. On the other hand every time the Lingerie League officials have been mentioned it has been with a derogatory tone. Maybe they thought it was time to make such a comment on that score alone.

Could it get any worse for the NFL though to have such a PR from the LL.

I have to admit that a part of me is feeling really disrespected in all of this, like they can just dish out whatever they want to in our direction and we will still just buy their damned jerseys and caps and cheer ourselves silly in front of our TV's on our barcoloungers.
