I bet we are the "home opener" on the opening Thursday game.

They did Indy-NE a few years ago. They could go there again, but as has been discussed here recently people are sick of NE. Also, since Indy has already climbed that mountain what's the story? NE trying to get back on top? As previously mentioned people are sick of NE.

I would bet Indy-SD is the opening Thursday night game next year. They'll be viewed as the top 2 teams in the AFC (and therefore the top 2 teams in all of football).

I'm just not feeling Indy winning the SB this year....maybe it's just me, but I think everyone is forgetting the Bears.

Indy doesn't face San Diego at home next year, they face them in San Diego. I don't think the NFL would make the Super Bowl winner open on the road? Has that happened? What about their banner? The best team on Indy's schedule at home is the Pats or maybe New Orleans.

Chicago by the way has New Orleans scheduled at home for next year. That could be the openner.

Agreed-the Bears are merely being acknowledged as the opponent-that's about it. Therefore I'd like to see them pummel the Colts if for no other reason just to shut up the media.
My worst fear about a Colts win is the media fallout.
Why do I picture Manning entering the SB arena riding in a chariot pulled by his team and dressed as a gladiator? With Polian?
Please-Go Bears.

I told my girlfriend right after the game that I am going to root for the bears during the superbowl. Da Buurrrsss!

Any self respecting pats fan would root against manning no matter what team he is facing.

Ah, I didn't think about the home field thing. Good point. maybe we will see NE @ Indy.

As for this "the Bears can win" crap the thread title covers that. We're discussing what might happen IF Indy wins. Entering this thread to tell us that our discussion is moot if Chicago wins is unecessary and irrelevant.

I think they'll give Indy a cupcake game to start the year off, like the Texans, if they win. I think the NFL wants to keep the Peyton Manning love-fest going as long as they can. Remember the Pats had to play the crappy Raiders to begin a season after a SB victory.

I don't know. Another very successful team, although not quite so much in the last six years, the Yankees, still gets the most TV exposure of any baseball team. New York market more of a driver there?

Polian didn't like playing @NE to start the year when that happened and he complained about it so it wouldn't happen again so I doubt they'll do it again.

Indy's home games

Houston, Jacksonville, Tennessee, Denver, Kansas City, New England, New Orleans, Tampa Bay

Chicago's home games

Detroit, Green Bay, Minnesota, Dallas, N.Y. Giants, New Orleans, Denver, Kansas City

If Indy wins I bet they try to showcase a young team like Tenn.

If the Bears win I bet it's Dallas since Jones will want some pub for them and their new coach.

While the Bears are certainly no slouches, their QB is unreliable. And young.

Most importantly, the Colts are sky high right now. And rightly so. They defeated the "dynasty".

Still, nothing is a lock. But I do see clearly the advantage to the Colts for their emotionally state, if nothing else.

If Indy Wins.....
maybe Peyton can finally get some endorsements..............

(tongue firmly in cheek)

Agreed!!!!!.. regardless of what Polian says. The Superbowl winner now squares off "in a 'compelling' game on Thursady night to kickoff the new season." Ratings where too high Sunday to ignore this matchup. Remember folks its all about selling beer, cars and insurance to the whole country in the long run. if I was an advertiser like Anheuser Busch that's who I would want to see.... forget the owners arguments.... the Bills are really paid by television rights and those are paid, in turn, by advertisers.

We played the Raiders because they got Randy Moss in that offseason and everyone thought they would be a threat to the AFC with Moss. Didn't quite happen that way though.
