Just read the Mike Reiss article on Samuel and I have to say that Asante is a friggin child if he felt "slighted" by being moved to RCB in preseason for one game and by not beinig put on Lee Evans.

Not to mention this garbage about the Patriots "not promoting" Samuel for the Pro-Bowl. Give me a friggin break, Asante. Its clear to me that Asante has his priorities WRONG. I say franchise his arse, tell him to get a trade worked out with another team and ship his arse there.

Heck, see if Jerry Angelo and the Bears would be willing to swap him for Nathan Vasher. Then we won't have to see Asante for 4 years.

A lot of this ground is also well covered today on ProFootballTalk's Rumour Mill which does a number on Samuel's agent Alonzo Shavers, who sounds like a real piece of work.

PFT comes to the conclusion that Shavers is going to use the profile of his number one client to build his own reputation and that could mean a lot of grief flying back and forth in the coming weeks.

Sounds like Deion Branch all over again. Ugh.

Let him go now....no need for more preseason BS like we had with Branch last year. Samuel made some nice plays this year, but the guy gets burnt quite a bit too and my prediction is someone will play him big bucks and he'll be mediocre the rest of his career.

Can't happen like Branch because he's a UFA...and gone!! Branch never got to that point..which is WHY he's a bit of a baby and NOT like Samuel..10 times worse...at least Samuel PLAYED...Branch LAYED down and didn't want to

Like getting a #1 pick you mean. It won't be BS when we pick at #24.

If he's not re-signed, Franchising him HAS TO be a no brainer. I still think we should have Franchised Givens - I think we could have gotten at least a #3 last year vs. a likely #5 this year. Players are commodities, we can't just let them go. John Abraham got the Jets a #1 pick - we should get that value for Samuel or AT LEAST a #2.

OK, fine to try to get something for him, but he's no Ty Law, so let's not forget that.

Maybe not but Law's career high in INT was 10 (that was with the Jets, 9 with NE) and Samuel didn't get beaten too often this year. Talk down upon him all you want, I'm glad he kicked ass it just increases his trade value when we Franchise him - which we'd better do or I'll be pissed.

You make perfect sense, I just hate bigmouths...he had one really good year, let's not crown his ass. :)

He's not, but nor are Ellis Hobbs, Eugene Wilson or Willie Andrews. Best case scenario for Pats is keeping him at the right price. If that can't be done, franchise his ass and send him to Dan Snyder.

Actually, best case is to trade him for a good pick and then use the money spent to replace him. In terms of value, that's the best way to go. Like with Branch, we lost a year because of the timing but, we offered him around $6M a year and instead got a #1 pick. That #1 pick will cost about $1M next year - if we can sign a quality FA for the other $5M the pick is almost free. You can't run your team that way as teams aren't on paper but actual people. But if we got a good pick for Samuel and replaced him with quality FA (whether one for $7M or two for $3.5 each) is could be the best way to go. Get London Fletcher for $3-$4M, another guy like that for the same and a good pick too. Nice.

Do we continue to wonder why Pioli and BB look for players whose #1 priority is playing football. Players that are just looking for the "respect" or "love",(ie money) will never be more that short timers here. Players that truly enjoy playing with their teammates, for an organization that "respects" the entire team will stay.

I think the 10 INT's are a little misleading. (Emphasis on "little". I know he still has to have the wherewithal to make a play and catch the ball). I think QB's were throwing his way through the halfway point of the season because, in the past, he wasn't a shut-down type corner. The last couple of games, teams were loathe to throw it his way.

I like the guy and hope he's on the team next year (if the price is right), don't get me wrong. I just think his stats are inflated by the contract year and teams not game-planning for him since he wasn't much of a threat in the past.

I don't think so. The other side had Ellis Hobbs or Chad Scott, hardly shutdown CB. And the middle of the field was open with both safeties out.

Through Week 10 (9 games) Samuel had 3 INT. The last 6 games (he sat out the GB game) he has 7. Then he had two more in 3 playoff games, both for TD.

Okay, fair enough. Why do you think he got all those picks in the second half? He is a good player...I know. Besides that.

Also, like I said, I hope they sign him. Or, if they can't, franchise him and trade him while his value is high and to keep him away from a divisional opponent.

Hate the agent, dislike the contract talks, but don't take anything away from the player. He's good. The best qb/wr tandem names were hardly mentioned Sunday as Harrison had 4 catches. You also can downplay the 10 interceptions this year, and in your next breath you'll come up with a cute nickname for him, whatever. This is most likely going to get ugly judging from the agents comments, which will evolve onto this site. It already has started, let him walk? This guy is a very good corner, one of the best in the league. I hope he plays for us next year.

I hope so too. I'd also agree that so far this situation has all the ingredients for another Branch drama;Asante has had his "Get Paid" tat for weeks now.

Its too bad he doesnt like that Franchise tag because he still gets paid.

Sorry homie.

Did we have him where we wanted him. And if he's going to whine trade him if he gets back to normal keep him

OMG, Samuel is such a brat

First he's getting tattoos about wanting money. Yeah, that's mature.

Now he's crying like a 6 year old:

"If the Patriots and Samuel are to reach an agreement, it might take some massaging from the team to help soothe some hard feelings that Samuel has developed, according to Shavers. Samuel apparently felt stung that he was moved to right cornerback at one point in the preseason, because No. 1 corners usually play on the left side. Then, in the first game of the season, cornerback Ellis Hobbs was tapped to shadow Bills No. 1 receiver Lee Evans at all points on the field.

Samuel later was moved back to the left side -- where he put together his best professional season -- and it's quite possible the Patriots simply were building depth by working him on the right side in preseason.

Later in the year, Shavers also felt the Patriots didn't push hard enough to promote Samuel's Pro Bowl candidacy, "the type of little things that make a person feel appreciated."" http://www.boston.com/sports/footba...007/01/23/price_goes_up_on_cornerback_samuel/

How disgusting. I always thought he was above such juvenile crap.

Good riddance, Samuel. Don't let the franchise tag and trade hit you on the way out.
