Some local (AM890) sports host said the Pats didn't take full advantage of the cap space aloted last year.

Any thoughts?

If you're talking about Felger, his reputation is swinging from a jibbet, metaphorically speaking. F him and the horse he rode in on.

The last published report was that they were 3 Mil under the cap. Rumors were they were less than 100K.

Even if its 3 Mil, thats 97% of the allowable limit. remembering that teams usually want to keep a couple of mil aside for injuries, they were 99% of "budget".

How is that cheap?

Latest rumor is that they were $76 under.

Cheap cost them turnovers, dropped balls, poor execution and penalties.. as far as I know they spend to thelimit every year.

Scott Zolak on the fifth quarter last night said they were something like $76 dollars under the cap this year. Those cheap bastards.

Honestly, I tend to agree with the "cheap" statement. Imagine what would have happened if we gave all $76 to Branch, he would have re-signed for sure and made us a better football team.

I love the whole "the Pat's are cheap" thing. Financial planning for the future is frowned upon, why wait to buy that hot new car when I can buy it now on credit? Conversely, why not pay free agents way more than they are worth to you when you've got cap room? I bet a lot of the same people who hate the pats "cheapness" are also in loads of debt themselves because they didn't want to think in the long term.

The Pats just lost the SB on the road by 4 on an epic drive in the final minute bu a HOF QB. And the front office failed? Felger should commit hari-kari and spare us his garbage.

You guys are right, Reche is as clutch a #1 receiver as any we've ever had!

By the way, according to Miguel, who is far more knowledgable than any genius's who replied to this thread from their high horse, the Pats are 3-4 million under under the cap.

Go root for the Redskins, they'll treat you better.

Briliant!! A well thought out reply so typical of the board this season . I must root for the redskins, or better yet, I must be a Jets troll!! yippee!

Yeah we lost yesterday because we didn't have a #1 receiver! Yup! The offense scored 34 points I dont think that was the problem. Miguel only used PUBLISHED numbers and has a clear disclaimer on his page. You can believe Miguel but others aren't claiming to be a genius. Please re-read what was said. We quoted what we heard and saw from someone who follows and reports on the Patriots and they reported the $76 dollars on air after the game. Either way not having Branch didn't cost us that game yesterday. Branch and Adam wanted to play elsewhere there's nothing BB or Kraft can do about that its a players decision.

anyone know how much money we have for next year?

Bills-Jets have a lot to spend i believe..we need it aswell to get veteran LB, Cb maybe..maybe WR.

3-4 Million wasn't going to keep Deion here, he wanted to get paid more THIS season, we offered him a new contract starting next year. Nice try though, and I don't think anyone really believes that.

If we won we would say that awsome!!!!get a grip, looking to make moves for the furture....IN BILL WE TRUST,ok hello....We lost let's move on....Next year will be better...new people have a 1 year under the system....2 #1 draft pick....we are looking pretty good....Who would have thought we would done this good....

Yep,draft and free agency will help this team. The good thing is Bill and Scott know better than any where we are lacking and I'm sure they will address it in the coming months. I'm so excited I can hardly wait. And no, that wasn't a sarcastic reply about coaching the probowl.

this Cheap talk will continue from felger so be prepared...there are many teams with at least 20+ mill cap space this season so dont look for the pats to land any high flying free agents which will prompt more scrutiny.
This season reminds me of the 2002 season when BB said we need to get faster and younger on D. We went and got warren, asanter and eugene which setup our next few yr. Iam sure BB will address the LB issue . But his is in tough ground ..he cant make Tedy B coming of the bench even if he finds/signs a much younger and faster player.
i dont see briggs coming to NE. if he doesnt stay in CHI ..look for him to end up in Indy.

Here are my problems with this premise that the Patriots were being cheap.

1.) The Patriots were not the only team in the NFL that entered the season millions under the cap.
2.)Nor were the Patriots the only team that use the phony LTBE incentive bonus move to use cap space this year.
3.)No one has explained how the Pats could have retained either Givens or Branch.
4.)No one has named a linebacker with good pass coverage skills that was available in free agency.
