Over at profootballfocus (yes, I know not everyone is a fan of them) they graded out the guard play for this past Sunday. According to them, Thomas, though not spectacular, was generally not that bad. He did have some major bad plays, but they pin pointed a different weak link on the line.

That was in contrast to Logan Mankins (-1.9), who posted his second consecutive negative grade and doesn’t look to be at his best. The All-Pro left guard had problems a plenty with Calais Campbell, and gave up two tackles for short gains and another for no gain. Patriots fans will be hoping that he’s working himself back from injury, because right now he’s the weak link on a line that is generally winning most of it’s battles.

Agreed, but Mankins is still having problems coming off the acl surgery, and that is one thing that we do not need right now.

Honestly, the whole line has been a problem for various reasons. You really can't pin everything on one guy, the whole unit is out of sync (and understandably so, given all the movement).

Solder is playing LT full time for the first time. He's going to have some swings.

Mankins isn't even a full year removed from ACL surgery after playing ON it for a full season. He's going to be off.

The center position has been a revolving door of sorts, though I think Wendell will settle into it eventually.

Connolly got hurt and Thomas needs to be upgraded if possible.

Vollmer, while playing well when he's in, has been brought along slowly, and Cannon isn't really suited to RT.

Improvement will be needed across the board, though luckily (kind of), I think most of these positions will improve just through increased play time together, assuming health.

Profootballfocus is worse than a random guess

To anyone with knowledge: How has Cannon looked at as RG?

I'm just curious what a line of Solder-Mankins-Connolly-Cannon-Vollmer would be like.

Has he been in at RG? I've only noticed him subbing for Vollmer.

anyone know how they come up with these ratings?

Or is it just a load of ballyhoo.

One dart board has plus or minus signs attached at various places, the second has various numbers, and the third has names.

Brady is usually a complete bum by these ratings.

X QB throws ball 30 yards INT = + rating

Brady throws ball 5 yards to Welker for 1st down = - rating (ball didn't travel enough distance in the air)

Given that it's PFF, this analysis is pretty much dead on arrival. While Mankins is not 100% (his mobility definitely isn't all the way back, for one), did anyone really expect him to be? He tore his ACL 8 months ago- in July, most of us thought that he'd be on the PUP right now.

Even so, he's still not the weak link on this line.
