Well, at least not entirely. This game should have been well in hand before the latter stages of the 4th quarter. Terrible play calling in the opponents half of the field, leading to FOUR FIELD GOALS and NO TOUCHDOWNS. You just can NOT give away potential points like that and expect to win.

The blocked punt.

And, of course, the official's holding call that, in all probability, would never have been called by the regular officials.

I havent seen the post game pressers yet but my guess is that Belichick will not even talk about it, however, I would not be surprised if he does not send a memo the the NFL about the call, as well as some other incidents, on both teams.

Should the Pats call lout the officials like Flacco did??

Joe Flacco had some very unkind words for the officials following the Ravens following their 24-23 loss to the Eagles.

Should the time be now that some of the Pats players, and others, do the same thing?

After Sunday's 24-23 loss, the Baltimore Ravens' quarterback largely blamed the replacement officials, saying they are "affecting the integrity of the game."

Flacco's biggest gripe is that replacement refs don't know what holding is. He also mocked the offensive pass-interference call against Ravens wide receiver Jacoby Jones that wiped away a fourth-quarter touchdown. It's worth noting a number of shaky calls were made in the game, which took 3½ hours because of delays in making decisions.

"He didn't even throw a flag, he threw a blue beanie," Flacco said, via Bart Hubbuch of the New York Post.

Flacco even admitted that he sounded like a "big baby" after the game. That didn't stop him.

Totally agree on the first point. When you keep putting up FGs instead of TDs, the result is often unfavorable.

Second point I disagree. BB does not strike me as a 'writing a letter to the NFL' kind of guy. BB is already or is prepping the talk about not executing and what the term 'every Sunday' means (in that endearing way he has).

I think we became a victim of Officials-Mania but what can you do when you don't take advantage of opportunities all day long?

It's hard to blame it on any one thing or body. It was a systemic breakdown except for the defense. Strange twist of fate.

I agree, but at one time, or another, something really has to be said, especially if the outcome of games happen when a call, or non call, was incorrectly done.

If I remember correctly, there was a story I read that one day this past week there was a special meeting with the temporary officials by the NFL in which they went over some details and one of them was how to interpret, and call, holding in the NFL. Sometimes too much knowledge is worse than not enough knowledge.

This is great news. It will cause the Ravens to focus on the wrong thing for a couple of days.

The Pats played a poor game and need to just face it. The holding call was probably bogus but it's also probably incidental to the lousy play that caused the loss. In the Ravens' case maybe it was different.

Cant confirm it, but I do think that BB HAS sent post game comments to the NFL. I believe coaches are urged to do so if it is deemed important.

What Belichick might say is that, while the holding call was, technically, correct, sometimes common sense should prevail if the call is not a very flagrant one and that by calling it, it might be cause for a change in the game's outcome.

BB did allude to it, but in a much more subtle way than the kind of whining you hear from the Ravens:

Belichick was asked about playing it safely to set up Stephen Gostkowski's failed 42-yard field goal attempt that would've have won the game as time expired.

"We scored a touchdown, got it called back," Belichick said. "We had a touchdown called back."

"We had a touchdown called back" pretty clearly indicates BB's thoughts on the refs and the penalty.

I disagree that it clearly says that. That comment is classic pragmatic BB, 'we control what we can control and we don't control what we don't control'.

I am fairly certain he did not like the call. I'd bet he thought it should not be called. His comment does or does not indicates either of those things -- it only indicates he is the same, almost inhuman, football coaching machine known as BB.

I'm sure it has been talked about in other threads but why wasn't running into the kicker called on the missed FG at the end of the game?

Regardless of what the refs did, we had the ball 1st down on the AZ 15 yard line and thanks to a penalty, piss poor game management, and a shank we blew the game. The refs are the last ones we should point to.

I will use this thread to voice my opinion on replacement ref situation in general and go off topic of the team and or Bill complaining to the league.

Which is to say F you to the league. And this has nothing to do with the loss, the holding call, or the all around crappy officiating throughout the league tuhs far through two weeks.

What I saw yesterday in Gillette was a group of fans that were waiting and already angry about the officials. The crowds across the league know about the lockout obviously and know they are being fed scab refs who have not been trained long enough and are not skilled enough to call the game as well and as consistant as the real guys and everytime a flag came out the fans at Gillette were twice as ready to boo them.

Usually any bad call can generate boos but it also usually takes a few bad calls before the whole stadium really starts screaming like yesterday but any call they made drew screams from fans. A five yard false start which may or may not have been correct sounded like it mine as well have been Ben Drieth making the call.

I dont know what the exact hold ups are in terms of money but whatever it is if the NFL is not willing to spend it just to make its fans happy then F them. I hate to say it but I think this goes back to Goodell and the front office people that have no pulse on what the fans truly want and are blind to it because nothing can overshadow the game. America's love for it will pull in ratings that make them blind to the ancillary true feelings of their fans.

Basically they dont hear their fans screaming about the officials because ratings and attendance like always are up so we must be happy.

Truth is I can ignore the replacement officials and treat it like any game where an official had a bad call I can point to 10 other things that we could of done to win that game yesterday but I am not capable of ignoring the other people that were sitting around me that clearly are pissed.

When a borderline call goes against you, it's not the refs 'fault'. It was holding. It was borderline, but it was a penalty.

Catch everyball thrown at you between the numbers, block every assignment given to you and play mistake free football then point fingers at the refs. Yesterday's game has nothing to do with the refs.
