ok, so going to school at PSU I know that I am going to face my fair share of Steelers bull**** thrown at me on a regular basis, so this was not really a surprise, but today was a really bad day and it made me think about a lot of things, maybe even transferring schools (im over that, but i did contemplate it).

To set up this story, I decided on friday that I would wear my pats throwback sweatshirt on monday NO MATTER THE OUTCOME of the colts-pats game. Something that the steelers fans never do here (aka, they only wear their jerseys on days after wins).

So in my first class, before it started, I got into a debate with a steelers fan over this statement: He claimed "Brady Choked" and "the colts will be known as the best team of the decade after they win SB XLI (the latter would not surprise me with the manning love fest that Sportscenter creates). I disagreed and said that I did not believe that Brady choked, but rather the colts outplayed the patriots in the second half. The entire class (that watched the game and was listenening to the debate) AGREED with the steelers fan! I was shocked. I kind of let it go when class started, but I looked over at the kid at one point, and he put his hands up to his throat and started to do choking motion sort of deal. I was pissed, but whatever.

That wasnt even the worst of it. The next class I have is a public speaking class, and we had to do our introduction speeches. As I was approaching the front of the class for my turn, someone said quite loudly "Dont choke like brady did last night!". It threw me off, and my speech was awful. Thankfully that speech wasnt graded, but it still demonstrated to me how much people HATE the patriots. My teacher, being a stand up individual, after the speech (giving critiques) and after he said what he liked/didnt about my speech, he added: "and I respect that you are being a true fan of your team. The Pats dont have anything to be ashamed about". Which made me feel better about the whole thing (plus the speech wasnt graded).

I guess the first point I wanted to discuss was: "Did Brady Choke?"

and then "Why do people hate the patriots SOOOO much? are people really THAT jealous of success?"

I just wanted to get that off my chest, cause it has been a pretty bad day.

dude, you KNOW the answers to these questions. so dont let the morons get you down. if it helps tho:

1. Brady didnt choke. he played ok. it was a critical game with many plays that mattered. it takes 22 guys to win

2. Everybody hates a dynasty. eventually. if BB is as successful as we all think he will be, you better start getting used to it.

laugh them off. start getting ready for the draft.
oh and how about "Last time I checked, the Steelers were playing golf during the post-season this year. And actually, I wish we had been playing the Steelers yesterday in 3 Rivers. the tlast 2 AFC Championship games we played there were wins on the way to Super Bowls"
:singing:

No it wasn't a choke. With so little time left he was thoring well downfield into multiple coverages. You're not going to score a TD with 80 yards to go in 54 seconds. The only way to do it is to get to the 40 yard line, chuck up a Hail Mary and pray. You can' blame that on Brady. If we were only 3 points behind, then yeah it would have been considered a choke.

The worst thing Michael Jordan ever did was lose what he would consider 'couch change' at the casino, he was always gracious in victory and defeat. Nevertheless, I still had a white-hot hatred of him and the Bulls about a decade ago. That hatred is long since gone.

A bunch of college kids saying stupid things. That hasn't happened since, what time is it now?

yea yea yea, i know, but cmon, they said it because they knew it would affect me during my speech, out of spite of a football team I root for. I thought that was going a little far.

And I know college kids say dumb things, i just wanted to make sure I wasnt crazy by defending the pats. Its just been a bad day.

There are Steeler fans in college? You mean the janitors and kitchen staff I'm sure, even by todays standards I can't imagine a steelers fan can pass any sort of college entry exam.

Easy.. when you are a die hard pacer fan and he stands in your way between the world championship and where you always are. Revered by the media-- always winning a championship or at least in the hunt-- yes you develop a white hot hatred for him-- SOUND FAMILIAR?

LOL

We should invite Nancy Kerrigan over to join the chorus of WAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH....................WHYYYYYYYYYYYY that has erupted here today.

I reserve my empathy and sympathy for the players who stumbled in the midst of what would have gone down in history as a most heroic and improbable superbowl run given the mind mumbing circumstances under which they were expected by an overbearing fanbase to operate as if they were cruising along aboard the good ship lollipop.

I am beginning to feel little beyond disgust for the me -centric among us who are either in over-emotional crisis mode or are back to banging their same old tired one dimentional finger pointing drum. The system giveth and the system taketh away. Or as BB says it is what it is. Shame on those who can't acknowledge that and be happy it has managed to give more than most fans could have reasonably expected to get in a lifetime just a few short years ago.

Good for you, you wore your gear after the loss. Okay, that makes you the mid-90s Pats, in fan equivalent terms. Now, if you'd gone out there, smiled at everybody hating you, and given a kick-ass speech that looked like it came out of a movie, that would make you the 2001-2004 Pats. So don't drop the habit of wearing the gear, just know what you're up against next time, and shut them the hell up by being impervious to the bull***, and taking care of business regardless (major props on wearing the gear today.)

By the way, not to fall into the excuses trap, but the 2007 equivalent would be having a class full of those bozos and the flu, with the temperature cranked up to 80. Not that it couldn't be done, and not that you get grading breaks for a warm classroom and a flu bug, but you'd really have to be firing on all 8 to pull that one out.

As for me, no, I don't call it a choke. I call us spoiled for not realizing that "Brady Magic" is a cool, but not very precise, term. We were the third or fourth best team in the league this year -- not enough, but not like the third or fourth worst.

For me, it's officially next offseason, though I understand they're having some sort of final game in Miami in a couple of weeks ;)

MoLewis, perhaps you are right. Im not saying that they should have won and everything should operate like the good ship lollipop by any means. I know that losses can occur and should be expected. Maybe I just need to get over this thing, and I guess get over myself. Sorry.

I didnt ever say I wasnt proud. I just apparently gave too much information when all I wanted to ask was whether or not brady choked.

Jeez. Its the day after. Sorry.

Relax, Chunky, you're fine. You're sort of "standing in" for an awful lot of chicken littles coming out of the woodwork. Nah, it's not a choke, it's the absence of a miracle.

That's what counts for a "choke" to some Pats fans nowadays. I don't think your Steeler buddies think Brady choked, they're just messin' wit ya.

PS,
Funny stuff Mo

I dont really consider myself a chicken little, which is why im surprised at myself.

Yea, the absence of a miracle.

And by the way, I dont have "Steelers Buddies". Everyone that roots for the Steelers is a idiot moron, or the girlfriend/daughter of an idiot moron.
