Parcells stepped down as Dallas Cowboys coach today...Expected to get an offer elsewhere but doubt if he comes back anywhere next year.

Good for him. I expect haven't to coach a guy like Terrel Owens would do that to the best of them. I can't believe one player could destroy the ability for a coach to coach his team,but I think it has happened.

That's just my opinion of course but I just don't think Parcells has the full reigns like he wants there and Jerry Jones doesn't have his back 100%.

Good luck Bill,your Legacy and tree of coaches is long and Hall of fame worthy.

Any wagers he will find his way back to the NY Giants in the near future?

Parcells' time in Dallas has been a massive disappointment. He was supposed to at least get to a SB but in the end they didn't even win a playoff game in four years.

I think Parcells is a dinosaur who outlived his era. The days of grinding a staff your ego doesn't allow you to share credit with and browbeating players who were dependent on you for a living are long past in the NFL. I'm not even so sure his genius wasn't just attracting the best and the brightest and most determined (who were willing to survive him as part of a career strategy) and pushing them to elevate him. His ego was his undoing because it led him to burn bridges and alienate the very talent he was so dependent on.

Don't know if he can stay retired this time, but he should. The ego has taken some hits and his football losses combined with a growing sense of mortality with the passing of his brother and so many of his contemporaries has made him a kinder gentler Bill, but in the Dallas setting with Jones creating issues and intrigues he looked positively wrung out for much of this season. And I think he has had some regrets in his personal life that he is now tending to mend fences over.

He should take Drew with him - perhaps they could support each other in transition, alternating time between Drew teaching him to fish in Montana and Tuna teaching Drew how to play the ponies at Saratoga.

Parcells will resurface as the NY Giants head coach during the 2008 NFL season once Coughlin gets the axe.

Parcells will definitly get offers to coach the question is will he accept them. The Giants job possibly opening up in 2008 would be interesting to see play out.

No doubt he'll be a first-ballot Hall of Famer (once the voters are convinced he's retired, at least), but I don't believe he deserves it. He never won a playoff game without BB coaching his defense. I usually don't give creedence to the whole "never did anything without so-and-so" argument, but in this case the evidence is overwhelming. All of Parcells' successful teams were all about the defense and BB had a lot of autonomy. You hear stories about how Parcells was clueless about a defensive game plan and basically told BB "it better work". The '96 Patriots team is a great example, the offense was actually quite weak down the stretch, but BB's late-season defense carried them.

The media loves his persona, but I don't believe an objective evaluation can put him in the class of "great" coaches.
