193 wins? Only slightly more than 8 ( 19-0 ) seasons to beat Shula. Brady will be 43. Possible! :)

[REDACTED FOR CLARITY]
8. Belichick tied -Chuck Knox, 193 games (Rams, Bills, and Seahawks).
Belichick’s next win will give him [sole possession of] the No. 8 spot .
7. Dan Reeves -201 wins.
6. Marty Schottenheimer- 205.
5. Chuck Noll - 209.
4. Curly Lambeau -229
3. Tom Landry- 270,
2. George Halas -324
1. Don Shula - 347.

Belichick, now 60, could conceivably catch Shula. ....

Does this count post-season wins?

IF NOT So; assuming he avgs 12 wins a year (next couple of years maybe 14 - but post TB perhaps fewer - so do an avg of 12). (if counts post season than you could optimistically avg 14 out of 19-20 possible games)

End 2012season: BB - 205 Tied 6th place. (age 61)
End 2013 season: BB - 217 5th place (age 62)
End 2014 season: BB - 229 Tied 4th place. (age 63)
End 2015 season: BB - 241 4th place. (age 64)
End 2016 season: BB - 253 4th place (age 65 - IMO LIKELY END of CAREER)
End 2017 season: BB - 265 4th place (age 66)
End 2018 season: BB - 277 3rd place (age 67)
End 2019 season: BB - 289 3rd place (age 68)
End 2020 season: BB - 301 3rd place (age 69)
End 2021 season: BB - 313 3rd place (age 70) - VERY UNLIKELY HE COULD COACH LONGER THAN THIS.

So looks to me like he is likely to end up 4th winningst coach, but could be 3rd. (hmmm - winningst by totals or by %. - another post perhaps.)

I think I'm seeing it right around where you are too, as far as the end of his career. I think the 2016 season is a fair estimate.

Let's enjoy every single second that remains for a wonderful HC career, and a total change in NEP football philosophy and respect :rocker:

REVISED Table by WIN PERCENT (by totals)

9 (7). Dan Reeves- 201-174 wins. (536) Season(190-165) Playoffs (11-9)
8 (8b).Chuck Knox- 193-158 games (550) Season(186-147) Playoffs (7-11).
7 (5). Chuck Noll- 209-156. (572) Season(193-148) Playoffs (16-8)
6 (6). Marty Schottenheimer- 205-139. (595) Season(200-126) Playoffs (5-13)
5 (3). Tom Landry- 270-176, (605) Season(250-160) Playoffs (20-16)
4 (4). Curly Lambeau- 229-134 (630) Season(226-132) Playoffs (3-2)
3. (8a). Belichick- 193-104 (650) Season(176-97) Playoffs (17-7)
2 (1). Don Shula- 347-173. (667) Season(328-156) Playoffs (19-17)
1 (2). George Halas- 324-151 (682) Season(318-148) Playoffs (6-3)

So the main conclusion to be drawn...............

I have too much time and really don't want to get back to work today. :D

Ok, seriously; At least on PATSFANS we say it all the time; but DO YOU (patriots fans) REALLY REALIZE HOW SPECIAL THE LAST 10-13 YEARS HAVE BEEN and HOW SPECIAL THIS COACH IS???

Thanks, BB.:youtheman:

Also sidenotes:
- imagine what Halas & Lambeau would have for SB/playoff records if those existed in their era?

-amazing how consistent-good Schottenheimer was in regular season and how abysmally worse he was than any other coach in his class in postseason. None of the other top 10 coaches has more playoff losses than wins - He has almost 3x as many. :bricks: * oops forgot about Knox.

In a way, I think I'll always feel a bit for old Marty and his 2006 Chargers. The guy led them to a 14-2 record and the #1 seed in the AFC, only to have some craziness at the end prevent him from hosting the Indy Colts. That led to his dismissal, and in some ways it's a shame.

The poor playoff record that he carried, and some other inexplainable bull***** quickly made way to an ushering of the Norv Turner era.

I'm not a big Marty fan or anything, but I'll probably always think that the dismissal after that loss was a bit too harsh. They may have been building something for the future there, even despite his horrid postseason record.

As far as Chuck Knox goes, yeah he will likely always be under the radar due to never having won a SB.

He'll always be my number 1. To hell with the figures.

There is a mistake in this list, Paul Brown is left out.. he had 213 wins and that would put him at #5, and BB is 9th, not 8th. I have been watching this for a few years, as based on what I have read Brown is the coach he always wanted to copy.

W's including playoffs..
Shula 347
Halas 324
Landry 270
Lambeau 229
Brown 235
Schottenheimer 213
Noll 217
Reeves 210
Knox 204
Belichick 193

BB & Paul Brown were both railroaded out of Cleveland by Art Modell, they have that in common.

Still, I'd like to see BB (and the Patriots) have a dominant post season (or three).

Good catch. But at least the site I used has him at 222 wins not 235. And CHFF says only 170 wins (by not counting 52-4-3 pre-merger games - which also comes up to 222 so I used that).

Also I note that I didnt post TIES in the first 2 tables either. A thing to note; BB is the only guy in top 10 to NEVER have a TIED regular season game.

For the official list then:
Paul Brown- 222-112-9 ( ) Season (213-104-9) Playoffs (9-8)

BY PERCENTAGE: (note there are guys with less than 193 wins wiht better %s than these 10. - Lombardi...)

10. Dan Reeves- 201-174-2 (536) Season(190-165-2) Playoffs (11-9)
9 .Chuck Knox- 193-158-1 (550) Season(186-147-1) Playoffs (7-11).
8 Chuck Noll- 209-156-1. (572) Season(193-148-1) Playoffs (16-8)

I emailed Florio and here is is response... play dumb. So I guess he does not corraborate..

i went off the numbers the NFL distributed

Hall of fame coach, hall of fame QB. These are the best of times my bros.

If Bill Belichick is a lurker on here, congratulations and we are not worthy.

The name that just leapt off the page in the top 8 on the list of NFL coaches with most wins is Marty Schottenheimer. Wow! #6? Really?!?

It is hard to fathom that Marty Schottenheimer has more wins than Vince Lombardi, Bud Grant, Chuck Knoll, The Big Tuna and Bill Belichick.

He had some good teams but such bad luck. When he was at San Diego he always gacked in the 4th quarter and became Norv-like - you know, playing not to lose.

Belichick needs 20 wins to catch him. My guess is week 4 2013.

Pro Football Reference is a pretty good source for info. You can sort by wins, percentage, playoff wins, etc.

Pro Football Reference | Coaches

As for Paul Brown, the NFL is probably not counting the 54 regular season wins and five playoff wins the Browns had in the AAFC in the four years before they, the 49ers and Colts merged into the NFL.
