NFL Power Rankings - Top 32 NFL Football Teams - FOX Sports on MSN

Stevan Ridley rushed for 100+ yards, and only once did a single player do that for the Pats last season. They haven't had an impact in the running game like that since Corey Dillon. On defense, the two first-round picks of Dont'a Hightower and Chandler Jones made immediate impacts at positions of need for a team that was awful on D last year, but looked pretty darn good on Sunday.

Pretty funny seeing the comments:

ESPN:
If the resurgent defense can play like this all season, the Patriots will be nearly impossible to beat.

CBS:
If they get the running attack the rest of the way that they got against the Titans, they just might go 16-0.

Re: ESPN,CBS NFL Power Rankings 9-11-12

You can make a case for any of SF, Baltimore, or the Pats. They should be the top 3 in any ranking this week. Atlanta being #3 on CBS is a joke but I think Prisco is a Falcons fan, so that makes sense.

Re: ESPN,CBS NFL Power Rankings 9-11-12

Cool! Now lets just finish that way!

Re: ESPN,CBS NFL Power Rankings 9-11-12

I wish we were not 1st ... bad omen IMO the 16-1 season memory is still painful.

Re: ESPN,CBS NFL Power Rankings 9-11-12

Who in their right mind would leave San Fran off the top spot???

Re: ESPN,CBS NFL Power Rankings 9-11-12

I'm not sold on their offense but i wouldn't be bothered by them being #1. That was a quality win and that D is so impressive.

Neither am I. Green Bay's defense is an absolute joke. It's a wonder how they were able to round themselves into a championship unit in 2010.

Re: ESPN,CBS NFL Power Rankings 9-11-12

What's really fascinating is Green Bay is 5th.

Their defense really is horrendous.....and they really don't have a run game.

How is that possible with Clay Matthews?

Matthews is a spectacular RB, but they just won't use him at that position. :D

I think people are judging the Packers' defense on reputation. Matthews had a down year last year, but did start this season with a bang (2.5 sacks this weekend). But I think a lot the names around him have declined. B.J. Raji took a step back last year without Cullen Jenkins next to him. A.J. Hawk took a big step back last year. In 2010, it looked like everything just came together the right way and either something has been missing since or teams have figured out Capers' schemes.

New England was in the Super Bowl last season, and just opened up with a convincing win that showed improvement in their previous area of weakness. Ranking them at the top makes perfect sense.

What really was interesting with the Packers offense was the overriding "do what we do" approach. Did they really think one of the NFL's top defenses wasn't going to comprehend they are a big play offense and take it away?

Did the Packers ever put anybody in motion to create a........like...... mismatch?

Findlay is on Gronk/AHern realm?...ahhh..no.

With the way they talk, it seems they don't even think there is any problem.

Strong finish to 2010 and then a joke of a schedule (especially in terms of opposing pass defenses) in 2011.

One day we'll look back and realize how impressive it is what the Patriots have done in this era - in terms of consistency. Teams peak and fall, and the Giants have won two Super Bowls by timing it just right. The Packers won one by timing it right. The Colts won one in spite pedestrian performances by Manning thanks to conjuring up a run defense just in time. Randomness, timing and luck have played a huge role in deciding who gets that Lombardi - even the ones the Patriots earned, and the ones they just missed. But the Patriots were always in it.

No one else can say that, not to our level.

Kirwan has the Pats in the top spot, what is interesting is the next 5 teams: SF, Balt, Hous, Atl and Den, we are playing 4 of these. So by the end of the reg season we should have a good idea of where the team stands among the elite teams.

To listen to all the talking heads in the media today you'd think the Ravens were the top team. Flacco's suddenly Joe Montana.
