I am thinking that leaving Welker out of the game plan was intended by the coaching staff yesterday. It made things very clear that if we do not design ways to get the ball into his hands he is not a Calvin Johnson type receiver who can find ways to make plays.

Welker should understand his role and what his skill set is. Playing with Brady and having plays designed by are OC's to get him the ball in situations that he can make plays have benefited him however his skill set does not translate to all schemes and quarterbacks. He cannot expect to get paid like Johnson or Fitzgerald because he is not a talent like them.

This is in no way meant to knock Welker, he is a great player for US but I think he should recognize that and accept a team friendly offer and finish his career here where he can be successful.

This would work if he could negotiate during the season. But he can not until after the season is over. Why should he accept a team friendly offer?

I know a few teams that would sign him in a heartbeat on the UFA and give him a big offer

Denver
NY Jets
Baltimore
Niners

just to name a few

Which NFL team runs a scheme which never uses a slot receiver?

Please- its not like they tried to shut him out! Its one game, and Brady is going to throw the ball to whomever is open...

I must have missed the occasions where Welker got open but Brady threw elsewhere because other receivers were open as well.

I am thinking that Welker understands exactly what his role and skill set is which is why he has been so good for the team. I am also thinking that if you think Brady isn't going to throw Welker the ball if he is open and the best option, you are wrong, play calling be damned.

The new number 85 can actually catch passes this year so that gives Brady more weapons to throw to. Spreading the ball around to different receivers is a good thing. Welker is fine; there are simply more weapons to throw to and Stevan Ridley to hand the ball to.

So we decided to pay him 9 million this year to teach him a lesson by not throwing him the ball?

The guy had an off game; not a big deal.
He's the best slot receiver the pats have ever had; He's benefiting from Brady just like Moss did, just like Gronk & Hernandez have. But he's still great.

And the Pats aren't going to sabotage themselves -- on the field and on the payroll, just to prove a point

Read the Bruschi chat today - paraphrasing but at one point Bruschi says that Welker needs to catch passes when the ball hits him in the facemask. I think he is right as much as Brady like Wes, he is going to throw to Gronk and Hernandez if he thinks they have a better shot at making the play. Welker knows this and I think he is a competitor who will make these catches and help this team win games this year.

The Practice Squad Forum is suddenly seeing far less action than it should.

Well, Welker is 146 yards shy of where he was a year ago. That's going to make a repeat season a lot harder.

So you agree with my post because he was not open because as I said the game plan was not designed to get him open.

Glad we agree

You really need to think more before you post, especially when you're starting threads.

So that is your entire arguement.. Deus Irae really come on you can bring something better then that.

Did you think this after his 2 catch 22 yd game vs KC last November or 4/41 yarder vs Denver. Oh yeah cause he had 8 catches 115 yds 2 TD's the next game vs Philly, and 12/138 vs Miami.

I'm still waiting for you to tell me which team in the NFL never utilizes a slot receiver.
