I'll repost my roster in a couple of weeks. I would add the ERFA's and RFA's to the roster listed. They're not going anywhere.

The first question, of course, is not the draft, or other team's free agents. The first part of free agancy is seeing who of our own we are able to re-sign BEFORE free agency. Even a couple of mid-level signings could be important: TBC, Evans, Seau, Mickens, Brown. The big two are just that: Graham and Samuel. We shall see. Obviously, we could transition one and franchise the other.

I know we have like 50 safeties on the roster, but I'd like to see them draft a safety in the first round. We could use more speed on the defensive side of the ball.

We need more speed in our front seven, IMO. Specifically at linebacker. It was glaringly obvious all year that Bruschi has lost a step. We need youth at inside linebacker. If we can keep Colvin and Vrabel on the outside next year we will be fine. But the inside linebacker position needs to be addressed.
BB/Pioli never replaced Ted Johnson. All they did was patch things up the last two years. I am still stunned that they couldn't find not even one young Linebacker worth drafting last year. Mays and Woods look like they have potential though. Hopefully, with some time in the offseason workout program and a good camp, they will do better in their second year.

this is it right here. also the reason why we lost last night. speed at linebacker is a glaring issue. i love bruschi and seau but in the 3-4 they have to be able to cover the middle of the field so the olb's can bring the pressure to the qb. bruschi can no longer match up and neither can seau. they may be able to play the run well but the passing game is going to kill us.

i agree that alexander isn't an old fart but he was getting roasted like a chicken at boston market last night. it will be interesting to see how the bear linebackers fair against clark and the other middle of the field recievers.

Unfortunately, no: you can only "tag" one player a year, regardless of which kind of tag you use:

IMO a big problem we had last night, that bugged me all year, was too often we would leave an LB to try to cover a WR when the offense went to a 3WR set, instead of bringing in a nickelback. The LBs did struggle with TEs last night as well, but IMO that falls into the same category - Dallas Clark is a WR IMO, not a TE. Should have had a 3rd CB on him. Hobbs and Samuel did an excellent job on Harrison and Wayne, but the 3rd WR or TE split out as a 3rd TE killed us all night, constantly getting away from whichever LB happened to be "trying" to cover him. If we don't want to go to a normal nickel defense since that would make us more vulnerable to the run, *at least* go to the "big nickel" with a 3rd safety (I *think* we might have at least 3 safeties on the roster ), so that 3rd safety can cover the TE split out as a WR.

I agree with big_mike and mentioned the same thing in another thread. Dallas Clark is very similar to Ben Watson in athleticism. I wanted the PATS to draft him when he was eligible, but the Colts got him instead.

Clark beat us on the seam route twice last night in key situations. And they were for big gains.

Alexander may not be as old as Bruschi or Vrabel, but he's not much faster than either of them.

Have to disagree with you. It was obvious all year that the Pats LB's were way to slow. Seau, while good vs. run, is a liability in coverage, as is Bruschi. I hope 54 comes back next season but more in a leadership role and to teach whoever comes in to play inside next season. The Colts were not the only team to have success throwing short passes. Vrabel and Colvin need to be on the outside next season and the Pats need to bring in at least 2 LB's to play the inside, one young beast and a veteran. 54 can fill in as a situational LB and inspirational leader, he is not an every down player IMHO.Despite the stats, I think the O is in much better shape heading into next season. The D needs to add 5 quality players (four if Asante signs) . 2 LB's, 1 or 2 corners and a pass rushing specialist. I'm praying both 1st rounders are used for defensive players.
