I think this is a big factor (as it seems to be every season) in our loss to the Colts. Injuries equaling a lack of depth. I know guys like seau and harrison were out, but there were many more that we could have used in the defensive backfield tonight, Randall Gay being one of them maybe? If anyone has this list, please post it, I would be interested in seeing it.

Off the top of my head...

Gay
Wilson
Seau
Gardner

I know I'm forgetting someone.

Injured Reserve

* 51 Don Davis ILB
* 47 Barry Gardner ILB
* 21 Randall Gay CB
* 34 Tebucky Jones S
* 8 Josh Miller P
* 45 Garrett Mills TE/FB*
* 24 Mel Mitchell S
* 35 Patrick Pass FB
* 55 Junior Seau OLB

* 42 Gemara Williams CB**
* 26 Eugene Wilson S
* 74 Billy Yates G/C

Practice Squad Injured Reserve

Adding some thoughts:

RB Earl Charles IR Probably JAG, but apparently signed through 2007
LB Don Davis IR Primarily STs, not signed for '07
LB Barry Gardner IR signed for ST duty
DB Randall Gay IR Second season in a row, not signed for '07
DB Tebucky Jones IR signed for ST duty
P Josh Miller IR Signed through 2008, he should be back
RB Garrett Mills IR Signed through 2009. I'm sure BB had something in mind when he signed Mills, and I'm not talking mere manlove for TEs.
DB Mel Mitchell IR signed for ST duty
RB Patrick Pass IR Not signed for '07; I suspect the Pats can do better, but I just don't know
ILB Junior Seau IR Not signed for '07, but I wouldn't mind bringing him back while working newer players in
WR Matt Shelton IR One of Charlie's guys. I'm not holding my breath, though.
WR Zuriel Smith IR NFL Europe. Probably JAG.
TE Rod Trafford IR BB and TEs are like moths to a flame. Now if only I could figure out who's the moth . . . :)
DB Raymond Ventrone IR Played in NFL Europe, where it sounds like he laid some real lumber. It sounds like he could make an impact next year if he can stay healthy.
P Ken Walter IR Please, God. Please. :rolleyes:
CB Gemara Williams IR One of Charlie's guys. Probably JAG.
FS Eugene Wilson IR Signed through 2007.
G Billy Yates IR Who knows--at this point, though, probably trade bait.

Two people not mentioned on this list:

I honestly think that Wilson, Gay, and possibly Jones really could have helped, even if they were coming off the bench (obviously not in their current states, but had they not been injured). The number of players on this list has got to say something about our conditioning. We need to shake this injury bug next season, or it will just continualy bite us in the ass otherwise.

Matt Shelton was released. As was O.J. Santiago who was signed.

Mel Mitchell, Tebucky Jones, Eugene Wilson, Randall Gay, Gemera Williams, Ray Ventrone, Josh Miller, Junior Seau, Barry Gardner, Billy Yates, Don Davis, Garrett Mills, Ken Walter, Rod Trafford (another TE who was IRed). Also figure that Harrison was basically on the IR.

Seau and Harrison were the biggest losses, honestly.

Really, it says something about the conditioning? I didn't realize that there was some special you could do for a torn hamstring (Jones), Broken arm (Seau), torn ankle ligaments (Gay), broken legs (Barry Gardner and Billy Yates) and torn knee ligaments (Don Davis). I am sure that every trainer in the league would like to know what those techniques are.

Now, the injuries to Wilson (hamstring/groin tear), Tebucky Jones (hamstring), Josh Miller (shoulder), could, POSSIBLY, be conditioning related.

Basically, what I am getting at is that Woicik is known as one of the BEST Strength and Conditioning Coaches in the league. The injuries the Pats are suffering are more of the CATASTROPHIC nature than the conditioning nature. You just can't plan for the CATASTROPHIC injuries.

Point taken. I guess I was leaning more towards the "possibly conditioning related" injuries. I wanted to try and point out that the pats had a LOT of injuries this season, just as in all their other seasons, and I guess we have to give it up to bad luck, something no one can control. That sucks.

Adding some thoughts:?

RB Earl Charles IR Probably JAG, but apparently signed through 2007 Yes.
LB Don Davis IR Primarily STs, not signed for '07
Getting long in the tooth, and any impact to his speed at this point, well...
LB Barry Gardner IR signed for ST duty
Hope he comes back.
DB Randall Gay IR Second season in a row, not signed for '07
Better than Mickens or Baker.
DB Tebucky Jones IR signed for ST duty
Good vet presence on ST, and knows how to play "press corner" :D
P Josh Miller IR Signed through 2008, he should be back
I'd keep Sauerbrun, actually.
RB Garrett Mills IR Signed through 2009. I'm sure BB had something in mind when he signed Mills, and I'm not talking mere manlove for TEs.
He could be a Cooley, but do we need one?
DB Mel Mitchell IR signed for ST duty
Has ST value.
RB Patrick Pass IR Not signed for '07; I suspect the Pats can do better, but I just don't know
Knows the system, but hammy problems not good for an RB.
ILB Junior Seau IR Not signed for '07, but I wouldn't mind bringing him back while working newer players in
If he wants another shot for short $, why not?
WR Matt Shelton IR One of Charlie's guys. I'm not holding my breath, though.
JAG.
WR Zuriel Smith IR NFL Europe. Probably JAG.
Yes.
TE Rod Trafford IR BB and TEs are like moths to a flame. Now if only I could figure out who's the moth . . . :)
JAG.
DB Raymond Ventrone IR Played in NFL Europe, where it sounds like he laid some real lumber. It sounds like he could make an impact next year if he can stay healthy.
ST, maybe a TC w/ Rodney could help him.
P Ken Walter IR Please, God. Please. :rolleyes:
Um, hell, no.
CB Gemara Williams IR One of Charlie's guys. Probably JAG.
Buh-bye. TC fodder.
FS Eugene Wilson IR Signed through 2007.
Hope he can make it back. Would've been nice to have him healthy this year.
G Billy Yates IR Who knows--at this point, though, probably trade bait.
He's a big OL that Dante likes...who am I to argue?

No excuses, for sure, but Wilson in the secondary all year would've made a HUGE difference.

See, I don't know if he would have or not. Wilson, to me anyways, has been gunshy ever since he busted his arm in SB 39. Its like he is afraid to hit people. And its why I think the Pats were trying him at CB in pre-season. I think that, regardless of what happens to Samuel, Wilson is being switched to corner.

That's a lot of IRs. At least the Pats have a large player pool together with the FAs, drafted rookies, UDFAs, etc. It will be a very competitive Pats training camp. Survival of the strongest, fittest, the best. Go Pats:rocker:

These players might have helped. However, we were in the championship game and we have several chances at the end.
1) Keep the drive alive, run out the clock and win 34-31.
2) Stop Manning on his last drive.
3) Score a touchdown at the end. Brady had the ball with over a minute left.

Matt Shelton was released from the I.R. in December. He is no longer with the team.

Earl Charles, Ray Ventrone, and Zuriel Smith are on the NFLE/Injured list. Only Charles is under 2007 contract.

The IR:

Davis, Don ILB 34
Gardner, Barry ILB 30
Gay, Randall CB 24
Jones, Tebucky S 32
Miller, Josh P 36
Mills, Garrett TE 23
Mitchell, Melvin S 27
Pass, Patrick FB 29
Seau, Junior ILB 38
Walter, Ken P 34
Williams, Gemara CB 23
Wilson, Eugene S 26
Yates, Billy OG 26

Positions, and ages.

Those players that are under 2007 contract:

Jones, Miller, Mills, Mitchell, Williams, Wilson.

We did have a lot of chances, and the fact we got shut down, could not stop the colts, and did not have enough left to keep the drive alive, sort of illustrate where we are - we were the second best team in that game. Indy did what they needed to win.

As to the injuries, to the original poster, it seems the Pats get more than their fair share of injuries every season. It's almost a hallmark of the team. I've asked the question about conditioning too, and got the same answer (the "catastrophic injuries" answer.) I wonder how many of our guys went out at home versus away, and whether the switch to fieldturf had anything to do with that.

I actually thought of Don Davis last night, and I was thinking how much he could have helped in Eric Alexander's role.

Then again, I would have had Chad Scott on the second TE Fletcher, and not Alexander.
