What does your intuition say about Shane Vereen?

Which week of the 2012-13 NFL Season will the first thread of "Vereen is Made of Glass" be posted?

This thread probably will qualify before its done

My "gut" feeling is the same as it is about any draftee who gets injured early in his first year or before. I no longer expect as much as I did before. After all, they've been injured and have lost a lot of critical developmental time at the beginning of their career.

Like you, I hope that Vereen and Dowling have great careers for the patriots.

Dowling is in the same boat, VERY good point.

But for whatever reason, I get the feeling that Dowling will actually end up outproducing his draft position and develop into an excellent player at this level.

So i guess that's the point of the thread (for you butthurt wise-asses)..

Even though there isn't any really good reason to feel one way or another about young players who have gotten limited playing time, sometimes you just do.

Im genuinely interested in finding out what some other fans gut feeling on Vereen is. That's all.

I've liked what I saw from him when he's been on the field. Problem is, he can't stay on it. Other than Deion Branch, history suggests those guys never progress to be what we desired and wind up gone within a couple years. Whether it's luck or being injury prone, it doesn't look good if this keeps up over the season while Ridley hopefully does well as the feature back and Demps is waiting in the wings.

I truly question the OP's motives.

What do you think my motives are? To pick on the ballwashers (again)?

I do that plenty. And trust me, I wouldnt try and disguise it. :)

THIS type of take (which there have been a few) are why I started the thread.

So all you fanboys crying about imaginary motives, can take off your tin foil hats and go snuggle up in your patriot blankets.

So you were looking for people with no knowledge of why and how the player is injured to speculate about what they guess will happen to a player, evidently in search of people criticizing him and giving up on him because of that uneducated view on his injuries? Nice thread.

Would it be ok if we merged this with the thread demanding that Patriots scouts be fired for the outrageous incompetence of choosing the extremely durable college player Vereen over the spectacularly injury-riddled Murray?

No it would be ridiculous and unfair to lump this LEGIT question to my fellow Patriot fans, in with that thread.

If people dont have a feeling/prediction on the kid, nobody is forcing them to read and/or comment in this thread.

Reading between the lines, you really wanted to post "Vereen is Made of Glass" yet you fear the reprisals.

I've have personally made my stance well known about a 32 year tight end, currently on the New England Patriots roster, in the twilight of his career who can't find the practice field.

As for Vereen, your patience would be appreciated since the New England Patriots are not a "pound and ground" football team.

He will never be a contributor on this team.

Let me preface this by saying that I would NEVER root for a Patriot draft pick to fail, simply for right to say "I TOLD YA SO."

I've rooted for this team for almost 30 years. Before Kraft, before Drew, LONG before Brady, and before many of you were even born. My family have been season ticket holders for more than half of that time. Patriot football is coded in my DNA (and now, my children's).

THAT SAID..

My intuition tells me that Vereen will not live up to his draft position.

Now, before all of the butthurt starts pouring in, and the one star rating, and the crying for the mods to move it to the PS forum.. just remember, im only asking for your GUT FEELING on the kid. Nothing more.

He's young, hopefully he works out great for us, sky is the limit, give him a chance... I AGREE.

I just want to know what you "feel" for him is.

This is a bit premature. NFL players have injuries it is part of the game.

A pulled/strained hamstring in a year with a shortened off-season (one of the most nagging injuries football players suffer) and having his foot rolled up on doesn't equate "made of glass" or "not durable" to me.

Hamstring injuries are very common in the NFL for skill position guys/DB's and the foot injury was a flukey play.

Whether or not Vereen lives up to his 2nd round status remains to be seen, but the idea that he's an injury prone player is just silly.

Yea... no. You guys were the ones who introduced the whole "made of glass" nonsense. That's your own weird Patriot defensiveness/insecurity creeping up. But LMFAO @ "fear the reprisals".

Oh, dont let all the injury prone smoke being spread around in here confuse what i am saying.

I dont think it'll be the injuries, I just dont think he will ever be an effective player at this level. Injuries aside.

So this thread was just a creative way to disguise a bashfest?

Vereen has a ton of ability. There is absolutely no reason to believe he will fail if he is healthy.

Positive outlooks and optimistic feelings are more than welcome here..

I've yet to see any sign of that special "ability" translate at this level. And my gut feeling is that it never will. Lots of guys have a ton of ability when they get to the NFL, yet never amount to anything. Vereen strikes me as one of those types of players.

Dowling, who is in a similar position, I feel differently about. I think he can be a stud in this league.

I'm going to say bust

He hasn't shown the flashes we were hoping for, and if you wind up injured your first two years in the league its improbable to recover from that.

I hope I'm wrong, but I'm not yet confident of the RB group
