Let me preface this by saying that I would NEVER root for a Patriot draft pick to fail, simply for right to say "I TOLD YA SO."

I've rooted for this team for almost 30 years. Before Kraft, before Drew, LONG before Brady, and before many of you were even born. My family have been season ticket holders for more than half of that time. Patriot football is coded in my DNA (and now, my children's).

THAT SAID..

My intuition tells me that Vereen will not live up to his draft position.

Now, before all of the butthurt starts pouring in, and the one star rating, and the crying for the mods to move it to the PS forum.. just remember, im only asking for your GUT FEELING on the kid. Nothing more.

He's young, hopefully he works out great for us, sky is the limit, give him a chance... I AGREE.

I just want to know what you "feel" for him is.

One star.

Move this crap to the PS.

What was the point of all this? Does that make you more qualified to pass judgement on players or something?

He has the talent to be like McCoy or Sproles. He seems to be made out of the same material as Maroney though. Glass isn't very durable. Hopefully he will heal up fast and have a great career.

The point Big guy, is that im as invested in him working out as ANYONE. That was the point.

I don't get in state tuition.

I think he is an explosive and dynamic runner, Isn't that what I'm supposed to say even though there's no actual evidence of that on the professional level?

From the small sample I've seen, it doesn't look like he has NFL quickness, suddenness or elusiveness of a guy who is supposed to be more of a speed back. He also doesn't seem to run with much power, falling down on first contact. A little Maroney-like dancing too.

Broken glass

Kidding but you know it's coming

What is the point of this thread?

I try not to have gut feelings about players I haven't seen play very much. Take from that whatever you will.

Would it be ok if we merged this with the thread demanding that Patriots scouts be fired for the outrageous incompetence of choosing the extremely durable college player Vereen over the spectacularly injury-riddled Murray?

I saw "broken glass".

So I'm declaring myself first using the term "made of glass".

* Not that I believe it and think it's a stupid phase applying to professional football players. People don't read the injury report of other teams I guess, or they would see 4-5 RB's declared out for this first game of the season.

Oh and BTW, what I saw of him in pre-season I liked very much.

My intuition says that he's been very unlucky. Sometimes you make your luck, sometimes it happens to you. But, really, I think this is a case of the latter. I think he was close to winning the starting job before the injury.

I would agree with that.

My "gut" feeling is the same as it is about any draftee who gets injured early in his first year or before. I no longer expect as much as I did before. After all, they've been injured and have lost a lot of critical developmental time at the beginning of their career.

Like you, I hope that Vereen and Dowling have great careers for the patriots.

I think he's the best running back on the roster by a significant amount, though I don't know if he will live up to that status during his tenure with the team.

I'm also not interested in evaluating him now, unlike so many people who really do want him to fail just so they can be right. Let him get healthy and then if he still has yet to produce anything after two years out from the draft, then we can talk.

He's got the talent to be a decent backup to Woodhead.

I think he's gonna be one of the most frustrating Pats ever, very talented, but can't stay on the field. I was hoping he'd be similar to Kevin Faulk, but he's more similar to Shawn Crable.

He is having the same sorts of problems that Willie McGinist had early in his career, the need to have the trainers work with him on proper stretching exercises as happen with Willie Mac.
