Details to follow. This is the 3 member panel that Burbank's decision was appealed to.

Decision says Goodell can reconsider discipline only if there is evidence of intent to injure beyond just a performance pool, per source.

Gabe Feldman‏@SportsLawGuy

Appeals panel has vacated suspensions of Bounty 4 and remanded case back to commish for a redetermination of appropriate penalties

Wow. What does this do for Sean Payton?

Nothing, this was just about the players. The coaches have no appeal alternative.

Doesn't make much sense yet given this:

Gabe Feldman‏@SportsLawGuy

Panel finds that bounty conduct both constituted payment in violation of CBA and payment with intent to injure other players.

Which then begs the question why did they overturn the suspensions... Is payment with intent to injure really not a personal conduct matter?

Yeah but Goodell had them dead to rights, right some of you

I can't believe people on this board defended that assclown after what he did to this franchise.

From first reports, this won't do much beyond resetting the court situation. The suspensions will be handed out again, and this will start all over.

Commish only has jurisdiction to punish for the "intent to injure" part of the misconduct so must reconsider case.

Sounds like this isn't over.

League can file a grievance against them for salary cap violation but Burbank would have to hear that and impose whatever sentence or fine or suspension.

Goodell can again suspend based on conduct, but can't include salary cap implication.

Yup. Vilma already believes he's been vindicated, but that is still a ways away.

Thanks Mo. ESPN doesn't even have the story posted as of 3:49.

I'm gonna wait for the details before commenting.

sounds to me like Goodell has to prove intent to injure, for each player, rather than just participation in an illegal money pool, based on in-game performance or "good hits".

who ever thought that THIS could happen??

anyone?.....ol' Joe walks away with sarcasm meter off the dial.....

Suck it, Roger!!

I'm not a Goodell fan, by any stretch, but this isn't really that sort of ruling, from what's out there right now. What seems to have happened is that the panel has just said that Goodell has to re-evaluate the penalties without using the salary cap part of the 'wrongdoing'. The league still gets to lay down the hammer about attempts to injure other players.

In other words, having a "big play" pool is outside of Goodell's jurisdiction, but a bounty pool is not.

If the panel holds that there needs to be specific proof, that will make proving this sort of thing just short of impossible.

According to Bert Breer, Goodell has to prove there was intent to injure.

I get the feeling he'll be pointing to the testimonies from Payton and Williams.

Unless I'm misinterpreting, it almost sounds similar to declaring a mistrial. Basically, some of the criteria Goodell used to punish the players was outside of his jurisdiction, so the suspensions have been temporarily wiped out and those criteria are no longer submittable. The suspensions are still coming, he just doesn't have quite as much firepower to work with anymore. Is that right?

good thing the legend in his own mindell isn't fighting any acrimonious battles on any other fronts....or am I forgetting something....

Exactly, and the pay for play pool is still punishable, only by Burbank as a cap violation.
