WB Aaron "The Navigator" Hernandez

*Wing Back* Aaron "The Navigator" Hernandez is my boy.

I was screaming for us to draft this guy in the Spring of 2010 ~ and was met with almost universal scorn!! ~ and he was my first ever Super Binkie!! And I couldn't believe it when we actually did draft the guy...in the 4th Round!!

Aaron The Navigator is my #1 Pick for Explosive Break Out Player of the Year.

Prospectus

One thing I recognized two years ago ~ and which made me a rabid fan'f'm ~ was that he's got some Magic.

Nobody in New EngLand navigates the open field like Aaron Hernandez.

~ His Processing Speed is ridiculous.

~ The man is blessed with a simply freakish Instinct for where the other guy's about to go.

~ And he commands such phenomenal Fluidity that he's able to take complete advantage of it.

The combination of these attributes can be devastating.

Sometimes, when he's sliding and gliding out there, dancing almost magically ~ almost mystically ~ around the Field, around Defenders...I'm reminded of a guy who used to play for us, a few years back...

I'm here to tell you that this is the year that Aaron The Navigator puts it all together...and tears this league apart.

Love Hernandez and like your style but come on man. Bobby Orr?! He changed the game and the way a region of this country looks at it. I'm expecting a big year from him too but this I just can't agree with. How about McHale?

Brother Grid AH posses's a rare combination of strength, grace, fluidity and agility, but you've set the bar awfully high by him comparing him to Orr. Thats pretty tough to live up to.

So this Orr fella.

Was he good?

We've had a misunderstanding, Gentlemen!!

I PROMISE you...

I in NO way, shape or FORM am suggesting that Aaron will have an IMPACT comparable to Bobby Orr's.

Never said it.

Never WILL.

It is only their navigational style that I'm comparing...and only "sometimes", at that!! :D

Orr is one of the best ever to play hockey and the best defenceman of all time he changed a position watch youtube highlights of him.

You mean the way he moves around othr players like Orr did. Some of my all time favorite memories watching Orr was when he get the puck behind his own net and skate up the side sometimes eluding the entire opposing team and then score....Breath taking.

I think the other poster was kidding. With that said,,,,,,ALL HAIL ORR :rocker:

My post was a bit tongue in cheek.

thanks

My post was a bit tongue in cheek.

Well played sir.

Living on the this side of the atlantic means we don't get as much exposure to hockey or baseball. i know plenty of guys in scotland who love football and know zero about other american sports. Sarcasm doesn't translate well over the internet.

Not old enough or lucky enough to have watched Orr play. Seen the highlights and specials and still have a huge huge respect tor the guy nonetheless. His stats are off the charts good considering his injury history. Ive always wondered where Bobby Orr would be in hockey history had they had the type of sports surgery methods they have today? He's already a legend and a revolutionist at the position. Id be willing to bet he'd be top 5 in scoring still.

Ive wondered the same thing from time to time. He was only around 24 when his knees went.

Watching Orr was like this. He would get the puck behind his own goal (like pictured in Grids thread opener) he would start skating up the right side and weave his way past all five of the defenders like they we're standing still or in slow motion. Then he made the decision to cut straight on to the opposing net for a shot or take it from the right side.

You compare Hernandez to Gordie Howe?

Being that I've spent so much time in Florida now throughout my life, I don't know what this game of "hockey" is that you speak of. I only reply to this thread to ask you one question: Who in their right mind gave you flak about wanting to draft Hernandez? I had my doubts about his size as a traditional TE, personally, but still thought he'd be a valuable addition to any team he played on (as I am a rabid Gator fan... we looked horrible this past Saturday by the way).

Just about everybody at FootBall's Future ~ I was there briefly in 2010, but they got rude so I fired'm. :D

Many opinions came around by the time the Draft actually came around, though. :snob:

I love the post, and agree with the sentiment. But that said, that picture makes me want to curl up into the fetal position. I just hope we one day get to again taste the feeling that moment gave us Pats fans, but this time without the crushing blow of reality following it so quickly.

That said, the post is a nice breakdown of what makes him good. Hernandez is a freak athlete and Bedard reports he has become Brady's go-to guy (starting maybe in SB46, and going through camp). Hernandez' production this year, if he stays healthy, should be off the charts.

Let's get back to the focus of this Thread, though, shall we?? :snob:

1 ~ This one's nice ~ 3:30 and set to Carly Simon, as well it ought be. Nicely done, after a clunky opening, but it focuses on Goals, which completely misses the point when we're talking about Bobby Orr...

Bobby Orr - YouTube

2 ~ This one's 7:15 ~ a big investment of time for such grainy footage. But it's significantly better than that first one. Me, I love it: It's set to that wonderfully, delightfully hideous music that takes me right back to those Glory Days...And it focuses on Orr's entire Game ~ the incredible Defense, the terrifying Slap Shot, the deadly Wrist Shot, the Tenacity...and above all: The Navigation: there's some sweet ~ though grainy!! ~ footage of exquisite skating that doesn't even result in a Goal!! That's right: the skating, above all, is what makes Orr's Legend Magical.

The Bobby Orr Rush -- Catch Me If You Can!! - YouTube

3 ~ This is the one to watch, though, if you only watch one. 7:45, but every single second is rich with texture. Testimony from his fellow Greats, great Footage...just exquisitely done. Listening to Bobby Hull, Bobby Clarke, and others speak with such unabashed awe ~ even for the 6th or 7th time!! ~ is truly breathtaking...and every word is true!!

Bobby Orr Highlight Video - YouTube

Honestly, though, none of these videos quite captures it.

Not even close.

Hearing people describe Wayne Gretzky as The Greatest Ever is ~ respectfully submitted ~ hilarious.

It's like folks speaking of Michael Jordan as The Greatest Ever.

These are both very reasonable, very supportable, yet enormous mistakes.

The greatest ever talk is an exercise in futility though. Like trying to decide between a Lambo or a Ferrari or a Mclaren .... impossible to do. But, that "other guy" in the above picture of Orr might well be the greatest to ever lace em up!

Beyond the statistical dominance of Gretzky (which I'll admit is not necessarily the most important criteria), watching Gretzky play was every bit as awe-inspiring as Orr. He had a vision for the game that is unparallelled in the history of the game.

It was like everything was in slow motion, he'd put the puck seemingly into the middle of nowhere, suddenly there's a player there waiting to rush in unopposed. He single-handedly made players like Jari Kurri, Luc Robitaille, etc appear like all-stars, even though they could barely top 20 goals without him.

It's a great argument that could go either way, but to call the notion of Gretzky as the greatest ever "hilarious" is just seeing things through black and gold tinted glasses.
