This is a placeholder thread for Practice Squad 2012 signings, cuts, contracts and speculation.

The Patriots have 8 slots available as of Friday, 8/31/12 at 10:00pm EDT. Who makes it? Here are my bets:

  • Jeff Tarpinian ILB/ST
  • Eric Kettani FB/RB --- Patriots have invested some serious time into him already
  • Malcom Williams DB/ST
  • Jeremy Ebert WR
  • Alex Silvesterio DE/TE

And at least one D-lineman and 2 OL-men that were not in Patriots camp is my guess, although if you want to replace one of the big uglies with a rookie QB, I won't argue too hard.

I would save a spot for 1-2 of Forston, Francis and Rivera. We don't need 17 front seven players. We need the roster spot(s) on offense.

I hope they add Weems and/or Kopa. OT Marcus Zusevics is on PUP list as well.

Ebert was a little disappointing to me, and not sure he has a future here. We'll see.

If they fill it with only guys they just cut (which they never do):

Tarpinian
Silvestro
Williams
Ventrone
Warren
Weems
Kettani
Ebert

Just like it sounds - Sil-ves-tro

Kettani for two reasons:

  • BB put his reputation on the line with the Navy for Kettani's pro prospects.
  • Kettani plays FB.

...since we may need an additional arm for camp, Tom Brandstater, QB.

No a QB is an absolute necessity. We might not need a 3rd QB on the roster, but we need a 3rd arm for practice to run the scout teams.

I misspoke as I meant for the PS. Liked Brandstater in the draft as a late round gamble. hard to expect too much quality floating around there as anything of a serious developmental guy.
Wonder if we should be looking for a PS quarterback that gives a different look on the scout team. Perhaps one that might adequately run a wildcat...? Just a thought.

Who are the Scout Team WRs right now for 3- and 4- receiver sets. Slater, Edelman and who else?

WR and OT are the positions we're most hurting for right now for practice bodies, even ahead of QB.

(Most of) the PS could soon become:

  • Kettani
  • A QB
  • An OT
  • A couple of the young defensive guys who survived for now
  • The very versatile Silverstro
  • A WR

Ventrone was placed on IR.

Why would you take out the GOAT for the wildcat?

And the ever versatile and indispensable Julian Edelman was the guy who ran the simulated wildcat to prepare for Denver.

LOL at everyone thinking he'd get cut. HA!

have the Pats ever even given the wildcat a thought?

Kettani, Silvestro, and Ebert all seem just about given, assuming they clear waivers. They'll need another WR too. And one of the young DBs will make the PS too.

we may see 2 WR on the practice squad. Doubt Silvestro will be there nor Kettani. These guys will be added if injuries occur at their respective positions as I don't think they will be picked up. They are at 52 right now until Waters reports which would give them 9 OL on the 53. My guess for practice squad:
Tarpinian
Ebert
WR??
QB??
OT??
purely developmental guy

May be way off with this but thought I would join in the fun.

Lamanai was suggesting that they'd want a wildcat QB on the scout team to prepare the defense for Tebow.

didn't they do that with Edelman last season??...or maybe I'm dreaming...

Matt Simms was released by the Jets. His brother Chris is a coach for the Pats. Could be a practice squad QB candidate.
