In tonight’s preseason finale, linebacker Sean Spence, the Steelers’ third-round pick in this year’s NFL draft, was carted off the field after he suffered what appeared to be a serious left leg injury. Spence’s leg awkwardly underneath him when he was blocked from the side while chasing Panthers backup quarterback Jimmy Clausen.

Last week the Steelers lost guard David DeCastro, their first-round draft pick, when he suffered a knee injury in the preseason game against the Bills. DeCastro is expected to miss much of the season.

I wonder what kind of tshirts would the guy(STEELER FAN) who made the Bernard fan club tshirts (Bernard Pollard Fan Club T-Shirt: Steelers Fans REALLY Hate Tom Brady) make now

Severe hyper-extension at the best. His left knee bent backwards at the joint.

If the NFL isn't going to shorten or eliminate the pre-season, maybe we'll see more games like the Pats-Giants, where there was a lot of running and a not-so-veiled attempt to get the game finished and get out of it healthy.

I'd like if we could do more joint practices with other teams. BB says the Pats get more out of those than the games.

Too many players getting lost for the season before the season even starts.

Considering what could have been, the Pats made the 3 games in 10 days stretch with minimal (as far as what's been reported) damage. BB and the team handled it well.

This crap's been going on forever. I still remember that dark day when it was Tippett, Lippett and Veris.

The game has evolved from those days,

Far more dangerous today and the rules reflect that.

It's amazing that you miss the obvious even when it's in your own posts.

as per PFT he is believed to have a torn ACL, torn LCL, and dislocated kneecap.

Hart Lee Dykes seemed to never get out of the preseason...

You were jabbering about players 25 + years ago as if they have some relevance in todays NFL. Lippet was drafted 29 years ago.

I stopped counting at 40, but there must have been over 50 ACL or MCL injuries last season.

I saw the replay of that injury on NFLN earlier tonight while watching the Cards/Greenbay game. Man I was in pain just watching that happen.

I was noting that injuries in the preseason have been going on forever, and pointed to a particularly memorable example. You went off on something that wasn't applicable and, on top of that, didn't even realize that your post contradicted itself.

OH. Oh, that hurts. Why does this remind me of a cleat getting stuck in fake turf, and then pressure brought on top of it where the foot will not slide or move?

Once again, I have plenty of sympathy for the player. . . . but for the Squealers, nada.

His point went right over your head. That is plain to see to anyone but yourself. All he was doing was recounting a time when the Pats lost 3 of their best players in pre-season and what had been a promising season went down the tubes quickly..

what about the year we lost Don Blackmon to a crack back block..man, he was like one of THE top unsung LB's in the league that ALL the players knew about...that REALLY sukked

The last Exhibition, too, wasn't it?? Against the Raiders??

If memory serves, we actually lost five guys, that day.

But I could definitely be wrong: It was 1989.

Not to nitpick: I'm just curious, and in any case: losing those 3 was inarguably the killer.

That season was over before it began...And the end of the Raymond Berry Era was shockingly sudden.

Too bad. I don't ever wish these types of injuries on anyone.

The Steelers' draft 2012 seems cursed. Two of their top three draft picks suffer what look to be season ending injuries (although there is some hope for DeCastro to return) and their other one is struggling.

Thats the way I remember it too, last pre season game, I thought we lost 4 guys but you may be right too as my memory isnt what it was. I remember my heart sinking that day, sort of like the 08 season when Brady went down in the 1st quarter.

I was at that game - Green Bay Packers. Was so excited - looked like a great defense; my season ticket seats were better that year.

I'm still amazed that they even drafted Spence. The guy was woefully undersized to be a LB in the 3-4.
