Ordinarily ... last year of his contract ... who cares ... right?

But Dice-K pitched 7 solid innings the other day ... if someone were to claim him then we could trade him.

why not? when you're on a roll you go with the flow ... that's how it is in casinos.

If he's claimed and we trade him for something ... well that will be the 2nd  in a weeks time.

There's 4 days including today left this month ... roll the Dice ben ... NO PUN INTENDED.

Where's Manny ... get him over here for waivers - see if he's still in the wall.

Id like to get a bag of balls for him but hes for a no trade clause and has been saying how much he loves Boston, I think hes angling for a one year contract to up his value for another contract.

Dice-K is a free agent after this year, he should roll over to the national league.

I'd LOVE to put John Lackey on waivers, what a bust almost immediately the day after he signed.

At least Dice-K won a World Series in 2007, then put up that 18-3 2.70 ERA season before the Sox forced him to completely change his pitching motion and training, which basically ruined him. I never understood why they did that, it would be like Ichiro winning the MVP and then forcing him to completely change his batting motion just because it was different from US orthodoxy.

It sounded like the Sox could have dumped Lackey on the Dodgers (they brought up his name). I might have flipped him instead of Beckett who still had 'some' value.

I don't know scout ... and I am a lackey hater.
He could end up being a solid #3 or #4 next year.
Unlike Beckett he has learned to pitch without a fastball.

becketts big problem is he cannot change speeds below high 80's.
When he had that fastball he had no problem.
Now he throws everything high 80's and the batters can time him here and there.

no becketts biggest problem is from the neck up. he doesn't give a ***** anymore. losing and suking doesn't bother him. im thrilled hes gone.

Joe Mauer is on waivers. That would fix our problem at catcher for years to come (if a contract re-work can be done).

I think he has a lot of time and money left on his contract, I doubt Ben would want another large long term contract after dumping two.

Im not a Lackey fan either but he only has three years left on his contract with the last year at vet minimum, if the elbow really was a problem Id expect him to be a solid 3 and an innings eater. Id keep him, not that you have a choice right now, if he pitches well to start next year you could make a decision then if anyone offers you something decent.

Also no Lackey fan, but I am willing to see what happens without Beckett around. His value can only go up.

Unfortunately, IMO, we need someone like a Schilling type to come in here and show the guys what it takes to be great again. You know, a straw that stirs the drink? (can't believe I am reduced to Reggie Jackson references)

if they could get him without paying the entire contract i would do it. but i would put him at 1st . i know the twins alternate him between catching and 1st.

I think Joe is off the juice now.

no, Mauer is done at catcher IMO. He has (i believe) bad knees. He makes way too much money.

Also, call me stupid (shut-ee), i still thinkk Dice-K could be a good pitcher for us. I am also willing to give Lackey another shot. He had the elbow problem that has now been fixed and Beckett being gone could help.

in no particular order, going into next season this is who we got off the top of my head:

Lester
Buch
Dice-K (if they resign)
Lackey
Doubront

I will assume we go after another #2 or #3 type pitcher in the off season

It would be contract contingent (which I agree). He's hitting at a decent enough average (.309) in 2012. The Sox need more players who get the ball in play. The power can come after that.

Which ever way it goes I want the Sox to be a better version of the Rays. There's no reason why they shouldn't given the resources available to them.

If Duubront is the #5 next year things will be looking good ... he has at least #4 borderline #3 potential.

The Dodgers offered to tale Lackey AND Becket as long as we gave them Agon, the Sox said no until Crawford was brought up. Pitching is hard to get and if we get 07 Lackey thats not bad.
