O.T.: Dolphins Trade Vontae Davis To Colts

Vontae Davis isn't a _good_ CB. He's an above average CB with freaky athletic abilities. I put him in that Antonio Cromartie group.

Agree. He's not a legit #1 CB, more of a solid #2 who will occasionally play like a shutdown corner when he is motivated but who will want to get paid like a true #1. A high 2nd round pick is pretty good value for him, IMO. The Phins know that the aren't going to contend this year.

How did Irsay get the money to own an NFL franchise? He acts like a 12 year old on a message board.

This is a great trade for the Colts. Davis has the talent to be a #1 shutdown corner.

Good pickup for the Colts. Miami gets worse in the short term but they aren't legit contenders anyway so not a terrible move for them. They weren't getting a 1st for him so a 2nd seems reasonable.

The value of CBs in general is at an all time high. And he's only 24 with pretty huge upside. Even if he's somewhere between a #1 and a #2 CB that's not particularly great value for the phins imo especially since Ireland is bad at drafting.

This is the "trade winds" that are hot and whipping fiercely?

About as warm and as fierce as my breath during an intense yawn.

How utterly anti-climatic.

I've always liked Davis. He;s the kind of big physical CB that I think every team should have at least a couple of. I think its silly to argue about whether he's as #1 or #2. All I know is that he'd get a lot of snaps on defense if he played for the Pats.

So that's my question. We know what the Dolphins and Colts valued Davis. What would have YOU paid for Davis' services. And how would he fit in.?

Dolphins now have a 1st, 2 x 2nds, 2 x 3rds in next years draft. From the perspective of someone who loves the draft, they'll be fun to mock next year.

I think if lolIreland hadn't decided to trade him right as he's televised to the world having a hard time on Hard Knocks they could have gotten a first from somebody eventually. What's the rush to trade him at all anyway?

I think we'll have a lot of fun mocking them this year. ;)

A #2 pick seems pretty high for a "rebuilding team" with a rookie quarterback. Indy must be feeling pretty good about what they have; being in a fairly weak division helps.

Two words: Jeff Ireland

The Dolphins are that bad, they've even timed their "suck for Luck" strategy really badly.

Even though Davis has potential to be very good, I still don't think it's a good trade on either side. If I'm the Colts and I just tanked a season to go into full rebuilding mode, I'm more careful with my resources and priorities. For them it was franchise QB and now both lines need help before I'd even look at addressing CB. That pick is most likely going to be just outside the 1st round, and I'm not sure of Vontae's contract status but his rookie contract should be running out fairly soon, so if he does perform well while they're rebuilding it's going to be extremely hard to keep him given the market for CB's.

From the plays I saw with Davis on the field this preseason, he was mugging his WRs and it looked like someone trying to force his way off the team with unprofessional behavior

I figured that was who he was going after when he said in his tweet that he was Very Determined to get a high profile players and Wasn't Worried about the cost.
