Rookie right guard David DeCastro of Pittsburgh Steelers hurts knee against Buffalo Bills - ESPN

"
ORCHARD PARK, N.Y. -- Steelers rookie right guard David DeCastro was carted off the field after hurting his right knee early into Pittsburgh's 38-7 win over the Buffalo Bills on Saturday night.
DeCastro did not return after he was hurt while pass blocking as Pittsburgh faced third-and-8 at its 6-yard line on its second possession. DeCastro's right leg twisted beneath him after being bowled over by defensive tackle Marcell Dareus.

After the game, head coach Mike Tomlin called DeCastro's injury "potentially severe." DeCastro is scheduled for an MRI on Sunday.
DeCastro lay in the end zone for a few minutes as trainers worked on his leg. He briefly got up on his own, but was unable to put any weight on his right leg. He took a few hops before trainers stopped him and called for a cart."

Always hate seeing things like this. I know a lot of Pats fans really liked DeCastro pre-draft as a potential Pat.

Terrible. He was a great pick I thought. They really needed to solidify that OL. Now what? This is a real blow to an offense in transition. Steeler stock pointer pointing down.

Both Ravens and Steelers hit with big injuries before the season starts. Patriots stock pointer pointing up.

I'm really sorry to read this; I was really impressed with DeCastro at the Combine.

I always hate to see injuries like this. As much as I appreciate any leverage the Patriots might get against another team, these things can be life-altering and we're talking about a guy trying to make a living. I respect any player (with but few exceptions, like Pollard) who goes out on the field to play this game.

It's a tough way to make a living. I hope he pulls through okay.

I personally thought David DeCastro was a great draft selection for the Pittsburgh Steelers. Good luck David with your recovery however arduous it may be.

As for James Harrison, well .........

Likely done for the year then. probably IR and study the playbook. I'm sure the Steelers would like to have him back, if at all possible, for the playoffs as a backup but honestly, they'll need the roster spot sooner for the O-line.

I really can't see how Big Ben lasts the whole season without some sort of support from his O-line. He's gonna end up with Drew Bledsoe disease.

Big Ben has been running for his life every season. Why should this one be any different?

That's too bad. DeCastro was one of my draft favorites and a great pick for the Steelers. Wish him a speedy recovery.

sad to see, wish him the best.

I saw Roethlisberger's anger in the game tonight, but it seemed to be more with having to take a penalty due to someone coming to the huddle much too late. He was literally yelling and pointing at the sidelines.

The first thing I thought of was wondering if it had anything to do with the playcall, etc. The announcers covered it up pretty well by showing someone taking their time running off the sideline, as they had to take a penalty.

There must have been additional frustration that I missed, but it's great news to hear that they are already butting heads if true.

It sucks even more that it happened in Pre season.

On a personal level its a tough break for the kid.

I hope he makes a speedy recovery and can play at high level in the future.

On a team level. Can't feel bad for them. No way. No how.

Concur. I can respect the players that get hurt, and especially this kid and wish him the very best.

But I'm not shedding any tears over it's impact on the Steelers. I hope that they vie with the JETS for the most epic meltdown of the season.

Pittsburgh Steelers first-round pick David DeCastro has a torn medial collateral ligament but the team is unsure whether he tore his anterior cruciate ligament, a high-level team source said Sunday morning....

...If it's solely a torn MCL, he would be expected to miss about half of the 2012 season. If it's a torn MCL and ACL he likely would miss the entire season.

The Steelers are hopeful that because doctors did not detect a torn ACL on Saturday night, the MRI will reveal the same.
