Jets coach Rex Ryan has never been shy when it comes to his beliefs regarding the Patriots. Now, it sounds like Bills general manager Buddy Nix is taking a page from Ryan’s playbook, delivering some fighting words when asked about his feelings toward the Patriots.

“I think they oughta expect a lot of us. We expect a lot out of ourselves,” Nix told the Toronto Sun. “New England, the AFC -- they don’t scare me. I think we can compete with any of ‘em, and our intention is to try to win the division.”

The Bills, who haven’t won the AFC East since 1995, are coming off a successful offseason, having landed defensive ends Mario Williams and Mark Anderson in hopes of bolstering the pass rush.

“Every really good coach I’ve ever been with, they emphasize [winning the division] strongly, and we always have,” Nix said. “I think it all starts there. You start depending on the wild card, and you might win 11 games and not get in. But if you win your division, even by winning eight games, you get in. So that’s what ya gotta do.”

I'm scared!!!!!

I'm sure the Bills players are happy to cash cheques the FO is writing on their behalf.

who the eff is Bill Nix and WHY is he renting space in my head like it's free?

I've always wondered why anyone would want to draw more attn to themselves with insanely bold statements like that, especially when they should try to be hovering under the radar and plugging away in a team building setting.

It surprises me that people don't use a face saving yet self serving respectable answer such as;

"The Patriots have been the gold standard for the better part of a decade in the AFC East. To get to the top you have to beat the best and whilst we look forward to the challenge we believe we've assembled a roster that can compete with the best."

It's not that difficult to talk your chances up whilst praising your rivals.

ex assistant GM under aj smith

aj brought him over from the bills

he's a very good eye for talent but i'm not sure he's all that good of a GM but he's still early on in the job

he bailed on sd a couple years before re-entering the nfl work force

16 out of the last 17 against the Bills? It's around that....yawn.

In all honesty what do you expect him to say? He's a GM, his job is to sell tickets. Saying that pats are the gold standard ain't gonna cut it. Just imagine bills are in our position the last 12 yrs and we're in the bills position.

Our GM says bills are the standard. Are you more likely to go to a game if he says we can't compete with the bills or are you more likely to buy tickets cuz the GM said we've improved a ton and we aren't scared of the mighty bills and have a great shot to beat them?

I'm not saying it works, but he said what he should IMO...

A better question is: WHY is he renting space in Buffalo? Have you ever heard that man speak? He's a Southern good ol' boy who sounds like he stepped off the set of a "Smokey and the Bandit" film. I'll bet his middle name is Bob.

What he said put undue pressure on the Bills players. Observations around the NFL appear high for the Bills given their defensive acquisitions.

You don't sell tickets by bull****ting, which effectively is what Nix is doing. You sell tickets because your team plays well not the crap that's sprouted out in the papers than can be used against you.
