Things are starting to get crowded, and (for the roster prognosticators) IR isn't currently an option for Mr. Dennard.

Also, Chung is not at practice today.

For the record I was reading Volmer has been inserted at RT with the 1s. All you Cannon fans out there can rest easy.

I would think IR is still a possibility. A wink wink and boom the hammy or groin or whatever it was flares up again.

Superstitiously, I'm glad IR isn't an option for Dennard. Every time we IR a rookie CB, he usually ends up getting cut within three years because he never recovers.

Re: Vollmer, Fells, Dennard, Demps all practicing today

I just read a post by Kontra saying Larsen is back, as well. I'll give him the hat tip and edit the thread title.

Wilson also is back. I'll be curious to see if he takes Chung's place with the 1's.

Re: Vollmer, Fells, Dennard, Larsen, Demps all practicing today

As much as we'd like to stash him potentially, I'm not sure IR is the right path for a player like Dennard, since he could no longer practice with the team all year. Using a phantom injury so you can "red-shirt" him on IR would work with a player like Demps, who might need a year to bulk up from his olympic weight (which can be done outside of team practices). If you think Dennard can be a good player, you need him practicing with other good players.

Added, and hat tip to you

If we don't know that by now, we most likely won't today. The media is only allowed to watch the first 30 minutes of the Bucs practices.

That has pretty much been the case regardless of position. I think the thing people fail to realize is that a Red Shirt in college still practices with the team so he has a chance to develope an "IR redshirt in the pros" means no practice and likely stunts growth much more then any of us realize.

Gotta man up and hope he passes waivers to the PS. If the other 31 don't in injury riddled CB desperation sign him to their 53, we're good.

Dennard will have to show that he is better than the 4th CB on the team. That is the only way I can imagine he makes the roster. He has two games to do it.

Now that Dennard is practicing again, I anticipate him being the CB5 on the final roster.

Does that mean they drop a guy like Kouvides (#90)? Who is cut to make room for him?

It won't shock me if he overtakes Moore.

McCourty, Dowling, Arrington, Dennard & Moore is a good (and young) group of CB's to have then if there's room having Will Allen on the team to cover both CB and safety adds veteran presence to the group.

One would think that he would more likely be taking a spot from Cole or Moore but I think what you are saying is that to carry 5 CBs we will need to sacrifice at another position?

Personally I think Moore has not made the improvements we had hoped based on some of the big plays down the stretch last year but I still think he is our 4th best CB and Cole is 5 and contributes to STs.

No, that wouldn't surprise me either. I don't think it would be unwise to keep 5 CBs on the roster since we can usually count on at least one serious injury there during the year. I haven't actually put a roster together so I don't know if this jives numbers-wise with what we'd need to keep for the rest of the defense, but a secondary of:

CB: McCourty, Dowling, Arrington, Moore, Dennard (could switch the last two on the DC)
S: Chung, Gregory, Wilson, Ebner

...looks pretty decent to me, at least on paper. Certainly should be better than last year's crew.

moore seemed to be close to jackson on every play(jackson still made the catch). dont know if he had any help but it didnt seem like it. not much of a pass rush either.

if i remember correctly last year, none of our corners were often even near the receivers.

Not necessarily. If the 4th corner is a special teams contributor, then Dennard can be an inactive 5th corner, who would be active in the event of injuires.
I know many here would find it to be a huge surprise, but it wouldn't shock me at all if Cole moves up and beats out Moore as the 4th.
