Seems like Gaffney making the team was pretty much a done deal, with the battle for the final spot between Stallworth & Branch. But Branch has come on of late, and Stallworth has been generally strong in camp (albeit w/a few drops). Gaffney, though, even before he got hurt, didn't seem to be getting much notice.

Maybe he doesn't make it? Chance all of them end up on the roster, too.

I think Gaffney makes it, he has great repore with Brady. Stallworth had ok repore, but I think Gaffney will make it over Stallworth, which sucks, because I wish they could all make it, I like Stallworth's speed, but Gaffney is a perfect 3rd or 4th receiver, really good possesion receiver. Had the best year of his career last year, so he obviously still has a lot left to give.

No way he doesn't make the roster in my opinion, he's shown too much over his tenures in Washington and Denver and has gotten statistically better ever since he left New England.

Oh, and scott99, is that your original username since 2004 when you joined, because thats a coincidence how Trevor Scott now wears 99. :D

Bottom line - Between Gaffney, Stallworth, and Branch, SOMEBODY is the odd man out. BB is going to have a touch choice, and a sad task, when he lets one of these guys go.

The positive reports on Stallworth in camp were mostly centered around special teams. We have Demps and Edelman for that now. I don't see any way Stallworth makes it over Gaffney. Stalloworth has the better speed but Gaffney can still threaten deep.

I don't think edelman is safe. he has been literally non-existent as a RW for the last 2 years.

He could keep them all.

I'd keep Gaffney over the other two.

I hate to be that guy, but it's "rapport."

Imagine a backup slot receiver playing behind the best slot receiver in football not getting a lot of production.

Gaffney is just so consistent and had a real nice year for himself last year. Right now to me Deion Branch is odd man out...he doesn't bring anything to the table anymore.

he hasn't done a lot on special teams either....

stallworth: BB says he's got speed. translation- you're on the team.

branch- having an excellent camp and nows the playbook. not going anywhere.

gaffney- plays well under josh mcdaniels. he stays.

edelman is gone.

Imagine a professional receiver with Tom Brady as his QB who cant catch more than 4 passes while Ochocinco and Tiquan Underwood are ahead of. I'd make excuses that the only place he could play was Welkers even if Welker was catching many of his passes from the slot, too.

Well Edelman is gone if all you are doing is keeping the 5 best WRs plus Slater as an emergency.
But special teams do matter. Edelman needs to hope that we don't find another punt returner that BB is comfortable with before cut downs.
Its a tough call.
Does a punt returner or 5th WR contribute more?
I guess the question may come down to whether the other pr would take up a game day roster spot only to return punts?
If we have a pr who would already be game day active, Edelman is in trouble because the 5th WR is an inactive spot.

+1

If Branch's biggest (only) asset at this point is chemistry with Brady, Gaffney has that as well and can still actually get separation. Realistically, if Branch makes the team he'd be lucky to get 300 yards all season. Gaffney is still productive, as he proved last season in WAS.

punt returner by a mile, barring multiple injuries, since a 5th WR is also behind probably 3 TEs in terms of game planning the passing game.

I'd prefer to keep Edelman and Gaffney and then keep the most consistent between Stallworth and Branch, which I think is STILL Branch.

Bye Donte.

Speed isn't everything.

is it safe to say that demps won"t return both kicks and punts?
jeremy ebert is also having a great camp and might be a good punt returner.

it didn't help that edelman got thrown out of practice.

As BB has said quite a few times about cutdowns and roster competition, "these things have a way of working themselves out"

I think keeping Stallworth over Gaffney would be the one of the biggest mistakes Belichick would make.

Stallworth has looked okay in camp but I think he is done...Gaffney and Brady seem to sync well together.

Branch is a lock IMO...I think Stallworth is the odd man out and I could see the Jets with virtually no offense picking him up.

Joey,

The 99 is actually in honor of "The Great One", Wayne Gretzky. I'm not only a football fanatic, Hockey is a major passion of mine as well. Though a life long Islander's fan, I have the utmost respect for Gretzky, and loved the way he played the game, greatest ever.

Though I could lie and say I knew as far back as 2004, that we were going to have someone named Scott and his # would be #99, lol.
