Several reports have left Deaderick off the 53 man projection. Why? Of all our true DT's he appears to have the most upside and he is the youngest.

Is he not performing in camp?

Just a suggestion..
ask the poster in the roster topic thread

Re: Brandon Deaderick not on the roster?

Some people forget that he was a starter last year, and not even a liability of a starter like 50% of this board's binky, Barrett.

Re: Brandon Deaderick not on the roster?

BBass, the good news is that none of those projecting the roster at this time have any decision making authority. Relax, it's what we do at this time of year. This team has a long history of being stubborn and making its own personnel decisions. I'm sure you'd be able to track and confirm this trend.

Yeah I liked him a lot, thought he was more then solid toward the end of the season. I think playing inside he can really provide a good pass rush.

Yes Please............

Brandon Deaderick not on the roster? is a terrible thread title...

"Brandon Deaderick not on the roster?" is not remotely close to "Why do most not predict Brandon Deaderick to make the final roster?"

Which is much more accurate to what you are asking. Brandon Deaderick is on the roster currently.

Yeah I figured that but I was actually talking about the ESPN reporters, so I was trying to find out if he wasn't showing up in camp or something.

I know him and Fanene are similar, but Fanene is 30 years old and likely hit is ceiling already.

That's a good question imo. I don't actually recall hearing anything about him and i like him quite alot.

Could the change in scheme be hurting him?

Unless you are counting Reiss as an ESPN guy, and i don't think he has said anything about Deaderick being cut, I think that there are many here who have a much better idea of who will make this team than most of the ESPN "experts," who are really looking at the league generically and not at individual teams as closely.

I think most here have Deaderick as pretty much a lock this year. Brace, Warren, Pryor, and others are on the bubble, Wilfork, Love, deaderick, and Jones are Locks. I consider Bequette a lock but i'm sure there are more than a few who would disagree. I also think Carter will be back during the season.

Re: Brandon Deaderick not on the roster?

Not really pertaining to Deaderick specifically, but I could see the Pats keeping fewer big DLs than usual for a few reasons:
Only two big DLs in the base defense
DEs getting DT snaps in subpackages
The inevitable return of Gerard Warren sometime during the season

I consider Bequette a lock but i'm sure there are more than a few who would disagree.

Where do you get that from? Those that disagree need to raise their hands up right now!

There were quite a few posters here who didn't like Bequette leading up to the draft and i'm sure they still aren't big fans.

Fair enough. There are some who regularly post on this board that can hold their own with many of the media scribes. In the professional media, predicting the 53-man roster is an assignment, here, it is a passion, and those who get paid to do it certainly don't have a monopoly on accuracy.

I'm on the fence regarding Deaderick. The Patriots don't seem like they will be running as many three-man fronts and Deaderick's value in the 4-3 is relatively limited. At this point I'd rather have Ron Brace of the two, although maybe New England will keep both players.

Whether Deaderick makes it or not is a great problem for the Patriots to have come cut down day. If Deaderick is on the bubble, then the defensive line will be fine. He's a good player with solid experience.

The depth at all levels on both sides of the ball on this team is impressive, especially if the offensive line firms up with Mankins, Waters and Vollmer in the locker room come opening day.

It's been a long time - back to '05, really, when the team had depth everywhere and the final cuts would be snapped up by other teams the way they will be this year.

I don't trust Brace one iota to stay healthy. Maybe if they cryogenically freeze the guy until week 14 he'll be a contributor through the playoffs?

Guy has had a less than stellar career to say the least. Hopefully your right and he does fit what the Pats are trying to do this year.

Deaderick is safe. I don't remember anyone leaving him off the projected roster. I think the board loyalists would have taunted them into a quivering mass of jello.

That's Ron Brace you're thinking of. ;)

I KEED. I KEED!! That's all MUSCLE, baby!! :D

I haven't given up on Brace, yet, and he may well be on the verge of that Break Out ~ or Break In ~ season that's been so long in coming.

For his sake, he'd better be.

Deaderick >> Brace in my book. From all reports the Pats were using him exclusively at DT in camp so far, and he's been ahead of Brace. IIRC, he played both inside and out at Alabama.

I don't think Brace makes the team. Reiss has suggested the Pats may trade him, though it's pure speculation. I think he's shown some flashes but not enough consistency, and after 3 years consistency is what's needed. Marcus Harrison and Marcus Forston have showed as much, and both have more upside. JMHO.
