Whose roster spot does Jeff Demps take?

I really don't think Danny Woodhead is going anywhere.

The team could keep 5 RB's (not likely in my opinion), or they could add Demps to one of the spots that were going to a guy as ST only.

I think that Woodhead is the only proven back here at this point, and will still be a nice part of the NEP offense. He may not be a lead back, but he has carved his niche, and does it fairly well. There were times last yr when he was hurt and not quite as effective, but he looked much better once healthier towards the end of the season.

My thought is Woodhead because his roles on the team can be filled with the Vereen/Demps combination.

My question however is not which running back gets loses a spot I am saying that Demps is in my opinion a roster lock so someone in who is projected to make the 53 man roster is now off, my opinion was Woodhead but my thread question was who? I wanted to hear others opinions on who it could be not create a debate on why it won't be Woodhead.

Shane Vereen, Steven Ridley, Brandon Bolden as running backs and now the "track star" as a kick returner would be the reason Woodhead could be cut..

Brandon Merriweather took more snaps at safety then anyone else in 2009 and 2010.. Then got cut last year.. Ty Warren was our starting LDE for 5 years got cut last season... Shall I continue the list of player BB has cut despite there previous roles?

Never ceases to amaze me how Andy Johnson lives in the past. Why don't you sign up for a history forum....
OK, gotcha, we are going to keep 2 UDFAs and get rid of a guy who has been excellent.
Lets just hope Brady can hang on to his job, since he is living in the past too.

It's odd to me that so much of this thread is about impact on the RBs, when the consensus in the main Demps thread seemed to be that Demps should be 90% KR this year, with hopes of gradually integrating him into the offense over time.

FWIW, on my roster Marquise Cole is running around asking "He can't play gunner, can he? Can he??"

Given the lateness of his arrival on the scene, I think BB should stick Demps on PUP, and bring him along slowly, while keeping a current roster player in the mix a little longer.

So your comparing Danny Woodhead's importance to the team to Tom Brady's? Brilliant comparison. I know Tom has 10 career rushing touchdowns to Woodheads 6 should we compare further stats?

Excellent would be how I would describe a thread that doesn't include any comments from you not Danny Woodheads Patriots career.

So now that we have your stupidy out of the way let me explain this thread again and maybe you can actually be a constructive member. Ready Andy? Read it slow.. My question was who misses the 53 man roster now that we added Demps. I offered my opinion as Woodhead as a candidate based on his role on the team and who could fill them. This was not a debate over Woodhead missing the team that thread would of read "Danny Woodhead a roster cut with addition of Demps".

Let me know if you need me to sound it out to you..

What's your answer to the question in the title?

One thing is for certain, there is NO WAY that David Patten makes this roster.

Oh, wait, wrong thread.

Thank you for being able to understand the point of my thread. It was to hear peoples suggestions on who would lose a roster spot, my opinion was Woodhead for the reasons I gave, but I was interested in hearing other players from any positions.

I would certainly agree with your thoughts here, Patchick.

That's the kind of player who I see being in competition for Demps' spot, the one that was a ST-only backup already.

Of course Belichick may feel differently and then we'd get into the whole "how many" debate at each specific position, but in my opinion the easiest answer is likely the road down which you're heading.

I posted a list of players affected by Demps in the other thread. I think you can find the cut player from that list. Basically, as far as the roster spot cut...

FB
WR
RB
ST

Which specific player is likely never to be known.

For the record, I don't see Demps being the reason for Woodhead being cut/traded. If Woodhead were cut/traded, I'd expect that to be because the Patriots were happy with Vereen as the prime 3rd down back and Bolden as an integral part of the rotation.

Woodhead has played more snaps at RB the last 2 years than anyone on the team.
You are going to cut him for a track star?

It never ceases to amaze me the stuff people come up with around here.

demps was a football player who was fast enough to run track, not a track runner trying out for football because of his speed. when i saw him at uf he looked pretty good(they had a lot of speedy, talented running backs).:rocker:

Can't stick Demps on PUP, sorry.

Oh, wait, wrong thread.

2012 Patten with 2 crutches and a walker on the sidelines would easily beat out 2012 Edelman.

Your argument could go like this: "Edelman does many things both during weekly practice preparation and ST gameday reps, but I don't believe that any of them are GOOD enough to beat out David Patten at the WR position."

:D

Nope, not to mention the obvious major attention that it'd cause around the league if he picked up a case of the Foxborough flu.

Tom Brady:scared:

Seriously though, let's see if he can catch first.

Being fast only helps on kick returns if you have the ball.

I'm calling it now, he takes Josh Barret's spot, therefore we have 4 safeties (Chung, Gregory, Wilson, Ebner/Ihedigbo) instead of 5.

Hm, interesting. I haven't had Barrett on the roster for weeks, especially since Moore, Slater and McCourty can all chip in at S in a pinch.

I think this is bad news for Ron Brace.

I love people who make comments such as:
- Woodhead has not been very effective for the last couple of years
- I wasn't heartbroken to see BJGE leave.
- Fiametta's spot is going to Demps

I have news for you. This is only Woodhead's 3rd year with the team. To say he's not been very effective the last two is just stupid considering how well he played his first year here and last year he spent most of the season trying to play through an injury. And despite the injury, he still averaged 4.6 YPC.

As for BJGE, while not heartbreaking, anyone trying to minimize what he brought to the Pats is being ridiculous. He brought solid consistent running game to them and never put the ball on the ground. There is something to be said for that.

People need to stop trying to put Demps on this team. He's done NOTHING to earn a roster spot. The kid went undrafted this past year. He may or may not have something to offer the Pats. Let's wait and see what he does once he puts the pads on, which won't be until Wednesday of next week, I believe.

People mentioning Fiametta can stop also since he's on the Reserve/Left Camp List. He can't play this year at all.

Why couldn't the Pats stick Demps on the PUP list? Particularly if he didn't pass his conditioning run?? Could you show me where it says that he's ineligible for it?

I agree, except I originally had the 5 safeties as Chung, Gregory, Wilson, Ebner, Ihedigbo. Ihedigbo's off to the shadow roster...
