Pats may throw deep early against Indy.....

Gee, ask a bunch of WRs what the team should've done, and they all say they should've gone deep more? Wow, what a shock!

Actually, what I bet we'll see a lot of is the 8-12 yard out pass to Gaffney and Reche. Indy played a lot of Cover 3 shell against the Chiefs, and they'll probably have to repeat that against the Pats to get Sanders in the box. The Cover 3 leaves a lot of room on the sidelines for short routes. Brady and the WRs love that throw, and they have the patience to run that all day, so ... do that for a while and something's got to give. The Colts will either have to switch to a Cover 1 and totally sell out, or they'll have to pull Sanders out of the box and go to the traditional Tampa 2. If the first, go deep. If the second, pound Dilloney at them.

I agree with the idea they should spread it out and throw it downfield. Even if you dont connect much ( although I think Brady will at the Dome) you have opened up some room for Dillon and Maroney. Set up the run with the pass, ala 49ers.

This is the game that ensures McDaniels the head coaching job for the Raiders.

Honestly, I think we can do anything. As long as we execute, the run, short pass, medium pass and long pass should be there. The Colts' defense sucks and can't overplay any phase against us.

Yeah, the first drive for the Patriots just made my heart drop when we threw an interception. All the excitement caused Brady to get overexcited it seems and he went deep. If we were just more patient we could have won that game. I dont remember how much time was remaining in the game when Adam missed the field goal but I remember Brady throwing one very fast downfield for a first down but we werent taking our time and the very next moment the game was over after a tipped interception. But again I do not know how much time we had left. We cannot get too excited and just being far too aggressive way early unless there is reason to do so. If we can throw some short passes for first down and if the running game somehow works out getting first downs, drive down and score without feeling the need for a huge play.

Two words... play action.

No, the Colts defense is great, haven't you been listening to ESPN?

I gave that up after the Patriots beat the all time greatest NFL team, the 2006 Chargers :)

I'm Trusting in Bill. He and his excellent coaches have seen what the
Colts have done. They will be prepared.

In his Friday PC he said
" .. it was a tough week of preparation, but nevertheless I think we got to the point we need to be at, .. "

That was very encouraging news. His demeanor also looked .. confident.
They're ready for the Colts.

Of course anything can happen ... mistakes happen .. refs make game
changing calls .... but
PATs will be very competitive for 60 minutes and
I believe without a doubt that the Colts will have to play one heck of a
game or be very lucky to win.

would it surprise anybody here if the Patriots won big? Im getting that feeling.

I am too. We know EVERYONE is picking the Colts so you can bet your ass that the Patriots are well aware of it and are gonna KICK SOME ASS.

I was watching Pat Kirwan analysis on cbssportsline.com and he said he talked to recievers from Baltimore and K.C. after the game. Kirwan asked the recievers if they were to play the Colts again, what would they do differently. The recievers responded by saying they would throw deep early and often because the Colts defense are putting everybody in the box and overreacting on every run play. Take it with a grain of salt, but I wouldn't be suprised to see the Pats play action the Colts to death early to set up the run later in the game. Both K.C. and Baltimore tried to run right at them with little success. We shall see.

i hope they do throw. and alot.

How awesome would that be? On the Colts home turf? There would be a lot of questions being asked around Indy about Manning if indeed this happened.

both teams are going to come out to get a quick score and a lead.
i remember manning saying after beating us 41-27 that the main focus was to get a lead against these guys which they never had
this yr after the 27-20 win he said explicitly that NE won the toss and got the ball first but we were able to hold and get a score first forturnately..
look for both teams to do be aggressive more so indy to throw deep..
if we handle the first 5-10 mins of the game it can help us a lot or we might end up chasing the colts all night

I agree. If the Pats come out and score at will on a team that has been very tough to score on during the playoffs will probably result in McDaniels getting hired by the Raiders. I have been very critical about McDaniels this year and it would be a mistake for him to leave this early and become a head coach.

for all the criticisms, i hope he sticks around for a bit. i'd like to see how he does when he has an efficient passing game and running game for a year.
