Reiss: Shane Vereen making a charge?

I'll gladly take a combined Stewart-Williams Panthers 2009 season from Ridley and Vereen in 2012. :rocker:

I don't care much if "Vereen is making a charge". It is important to me that Vereen looked good when given the opportunity. He will be part of the mix. We now have the 3 running backs who will get almost all the reps, even with one injury. Josh will have run figuring out how to best integrate our 3 running backs into our passing offense.

What is much more interesting to me is what we do with the rest of RB's and FB's. 0-2 of the current group could make the team, and I think the competition is wide open. Of course, Belichick might still bring in a veteran #4 and/or #5 as he has in the past.

I care a lot, since Vereen emerging as a legitimate lead back would add a huge dimension to the offense that would make it even more versatile and harder to defend. I personally don't care nearly as much about who the #4 or #5 back is. But to each his own.

With this guys skill set he could be better than Ridley. It's there for all to see on his college tape. During the draft process I likened him to a Maurice Jones-Drew type...if he even came just a tiny bit close to living up to that hype then I think I'd pee my pants with excitement.

I don't think this guy's skill set limits him to just 3rd down back duties...he should be better than Faulk.

Are you a big "Star Wars" fan?

Have ever been to the "Star Wars" convention?

As an excuse to go to the Tampa game next Friday, pfip jr. gets to go to the convention on Saturday.

It's all starting to make a lot more sense.

Makings of the next Kevin Faulk? Vereen needs to get a bit stronger and work like the devil on blitz pickup. Everything else is there.

As we saw in Week 1, 2008, blitz pick-up is the most important part.

Vereen is plenty strong, he put up 225lbs 31 times at the combine, I would wager that his blocking technique is what likely needs work.

Not to knock on Vereen, but I wonder if BB's comments weren't meant to motivate Ridley as much as anything.

Yeah, that's what's expected.

The starters better play a half next Friday.

I am about as big as Star Wars fan as there is and I would go punch for punch with the Geeks at the convention with the stupid things I know about the saga but I never gone to a convention. Its not that I ashamed as all my friends know how crazy I am with Star Wars I just dont really get wanting to dress up like that but if I ever went I probably would enjoy it a lot.

Perhaps the best plan of attack is to just let the day unfold and let him do his thing.

Trying to figure out what goes on is more difficult than figuring out what hotel the Patriots stay.

From Field Yates today:

Vereen catches, runs well. With Stevan Ridley nursing an injury and taking in practice from the sidelines, the window opened for Shane Vereen to receive an extensive workload. He had yet another productive day overall, particularly catching the football and moving in space. The Vereen we've seen in recent days is the one many anticipated he would be when he was drafted in the second round in 2011.

While I don't do the dress up scene at conventions, I will say I went to Comic Con in San Diego a couple of years ago and had a blast. Game of Thrones, Big Bang were probably my favourite parts. Just a lot to take in and very good time with my wife who was around for the True Blood.
