Belichick Happy With What He's Seen So Far From Donte Stallworth
By: Ian Logue

They may still have a long way to go, but Bill Belichick sounded fairly positive with what he's seen so far from wide receiver Donte Stallworth....

He must be getting cut tomorrow with that kind of talk.;)

You can tell from the sideline interactions that Stallworth is a Brady favorite. Since Brady is kind of finicky regarding his receivers, I would imagine that carries some weight.

If it comes down between Branch and Stallworth for the #4 WR ....I think Branch wins out

I think that if you ask Brady who is all time favorite WR was it would be Branch above all others.

I am not sure that is accurate at all.

Brady has said on several different occasions He and Branch have a special connection and that he has had with no other WR.

In 07 Gaffney had passed Stallworth on the depth chart as the year went on mostly on his knowledge of the system and rapoire with Brady sure 5 years later things could have changed but I dont think I would use sideling banter as evidence of anything other than Stallworth might be a funny guy.

I think you're forgetting someone. Not to give it away, but his name is Wes Welker.

I think Wes is just the better all around player and obviously has a great repoire as well but Tom has said that he and Branch had a connection like no other.

Is that how it usually works around here? Just ignore everything BB said? "Good" and "solid camp" are pretty important keywords for BB when he describes players. He's not Rex who blows smoke up his players' asses. He even elaborated on his positive contributions. He would have said absolutely nothing if Stallworth sucked all through TC. What exactly has Branch done this training camp?

He had a couple of pretty productive days once they started letting him work this week...and now that Gaffney just did something to his quad...

Has Belichick ever said a player isn't showing him much or looking lousy? No, just like he generically talks up opponents he always accentuates the positive with his players. He said Chad was doing everything they asked him to and working hard. How'd that pan out? FWIW Stallworth had a tough day yesterday dropping 3.

Didn't Brady say that before Welker and Moss joined the Pats?

Yes but I am also fairly certain he said it when Branch was re-joining the team a few seasons ago.

I'm surprised Bill said that given what I saw in yesterday's practice. About the only ball Stallworth handled well was the one that was handed to him on an end around. He had a HORRIBLE day catching the ball. He had drops during individual drills when the coaches were throwing to him, let alone the ones that his QB's threw. By the end of practice you could tell it was in his head.

That being said it was just one practice and every one has a bad day. I don't recall much mention of him being a chronic dropper before yesterday, so he might be having a fine camp overall. From the few I've been at, Llioyd, Welker and Edelman have been the most consistent catchers of the ball, but they've all had a few drops as well.

How can you tell when the best catch of the day was by Slater....it might well have been the best catch of the camp, butdespite the catch, no one is counting on Slater to have any impact on the passing game this season. If he is, then we are in a lot of trouble at WR ;)

Its definitely branch, with an honrable tip of the hat to welker and brown.

I would bet if Brady were forced to tell us who he was most in synch with in his career,he would put Branch on top,Welker 2nd and the 'mature, team player' Moss of 2007 in third and Brown in 4th although Brown could be ahead of Moss.

Stallworth really wasn't the biggest factor in 2007. He made some really standout plays (like the long catch against Indy on the clinching drive), but those were few and far between. Gaffney became a much bigger threat and more reliable receiver down the stretch that year. He's aged since then. He has also had and up-and-down career since then as well.

He'll make the cut, IMO. I think he can help this team since he still possesses his speed, but I'm not at all looking for big things from him. He can be a monster in 4-wide sets. I also think he'd be good (along with Edel) with the gimmick plays, like reverses and fake reverses and things like that.

I am coming around to that POV after being convinced that Josh would prefer speed. Speed is great but if you can't rely on it to make the catch then go with the slow Smurf who will make a few catches.

In a way Deion would be like an invisible guy out there with their worst coverage guy on him. It's quite possible that in big situations that could pay off.
