Woman set to officiate NFL game for first time - ESPN

no objections per se if she EARNS the job by being good, seems like a pretty tough lady if she was doing judo since age 11. But considering Gotohell has set the bar pretty low on "good" officiating - that shouldn't be hard. So I hope it isnt just a 'diversity' hire or publicity stunt.

I havent heard much more on the officials labor negotiations. so I guess this is another slap at them. Hire a woman and that gets the nfl story out there on the front page news: 'YOU ARE REPLACEABLE' - take that refs.

Dan Koppen could learn a thing or two from her.

Amazing that this multi-billion dollar operation relies on part timers. I heard from a contact that they can't afford the Obamacare.

My only concern is that they get the calls right. I don't care what sex they are.

I heard talk that they missed a holding call which would have been a Safety during the HOF game.

If she passes all of the Ref standards to maintain her job, I see no problems. But Violet Palmer has been a bit criticized for her NBA work.

My only worry is that a woman who is not performing to her standards is kept on for obvious reasons.

Can we please leave the politics to the politics forum?

Whatever they do I hope they get this resolved quick. Both sides come across as looking bad to me.

What what? Unless I'm wrong the officials are part timers.

You think part-timer is going to just stand there and take it while you talk trash about part timers?

My only problem with this is in the past there have been cases of refs getting injured out on the field due to getting caught in a scrum, getting hit by a player, etc. I would not want to see that happen to a woman out there.

As long as she's competent, I don't see why anyone would have a problem with that. If she's bad then remove her. Bottom line is she should get the same treatment as any other official.

Expect one game a month to have an extreme amount of penalties.

Being a martial artist I would guess that she take a hit or two and bounce up.

It's different when there are maniacs like James Harrison, and worse yet, Osama Bin Pollard running out on the field.

Joking aside, she is set up to set back women in officiating years.

Seriously, who here thinks replacement officials will be decent?

Even bad calls that the real refs would have made too will be blamed on incompetent replacement refs. Add to that obvious quoting of Cedric Maxwell.

Yes, several of her calls will have people wondering if a penis is required to officiate in the NFL. (It sounds silly when put like that, but many meat heads on message boards will essentially say that.)

So basically you're saying our regular officials are d***s??
