Throw the cash Wes wants at Mike Wallace

This thread has degenerated into foolishness now. Luck hasn't played a down in the league yet. I know Brady is up there in age, but c'mon. Can Luck at least have his first winning season before we crown him the next coming? I know the kid was good in college and all, but I just don't like where this thread is going.lol

this thread is going places :D

The original premise of the thread suggested letting the most proven and consistent WR of the BB/Brady era walk and paying more money to someone who's completely unproven in the offense so if you ask me, it was never going anywhere good in the first place :D

Wallace is one of the most overrated players in the NFL. He doesn't deserve even what the Steelers were probably offering, much less what he wants. He's not even the best receiver on his team with any other QB throwing to them.

I wouldn't spend that much money on a receiver when we don't even know if he can play in this offense.

I had to check my calender since this thread had me thinking it was March again...

I've been a Brady supporter and defender about as much as anyone on here, I consider Brady to be the GOAT, and I'm not saying "Trade Brady". I'm saying that, I'd have to think about making such a move, rather than just firing off a knee-jerk "No Way!" in the specific situation being discussed, nothing more.

I'm kinda wondering why we are having a discussion about NEXT year's WRs. Which makes it even more curious as to why I'm responding. ;)

Assuming Welker leaves next year, I can see the Pats picking a WR in the first or 2nd round, looking more for size and speed in an outside the numbers WR. They haven't had much recent luck with WR's in the draft, so they might go to a high end FA WR, though I have no idea who might be available

But regardless of the methodology, the Pats need to get younger, bigger and faster at WR next season. I love the receiver options we have for THIS year, but by next year the age will start to show. Welker and Branch are both likely to be gone next season and Gaffney and or Stallworth aren't really long term solutions (in fact I'll be disappointed if Branch makes this season's roster) So the Pats could be looking to add 3 new receivers to their mix

BTW- I'd love to have Wallace, but I'd be very leery to give this kid a long term deal that pays him over $10MM/yr....and that's what he'll want in a new contract

Thank you.

I think the OP is looking at this as nothing more than a fantasy game. In reality the guy needs to also show that he can pick up this type of a playbook. If he had played for Charlie Weiss or Josh then fine, we can use guys like that. Otherwise, wow, Ocho II.

My post was intended as sarcasm, which apparently people have trouble understanding. Sort of on the lines of "let's trade Bill Belichick for Greg Schiano".

I wouldn't spend that much money on a receiver when we have one of the GOATs on this team at QB.

I thought the silliness would slow down once training camp started. Guess not.

Let's throw the cash Wes wants at Wes.

Yeah, the Pats would potentially give Welker around 3 years, $30-35M, with $20M guaranteed and that's a stretch. Wallace will be looking for $70-80M $30-40M guaranteed, and he'll get it from someone, or at least close.

Welker is 31, and Wallace is 25. Not exactly apples to apples for market value.

i wanted this in the beginning..but the more and more i think about it..use that money to load up hernandez seems like the better move IMO. Youth movement is in

Here's an idea, pay them both.
